Alaska Recommendations Needed - Fairbanks, Denali, Anchorage, Seward

I would like to continue to confirm from this 2010 post that 229 Parks is still a fantastic place to eat in 2014, and that you would be greatly remiss to be near Denali and not take advantage of having a meal there. We ate there last week with a group of 7 people, everyone having something different, and the flavors and presentation were fantastic. Nothing else in 10 days in Alaska (Anchorage, Seward, other places around Denali) came close, easily the best place we ate.

Some of the things we enjoyed:
king crab cakes
razor clams
chicken under brick
house made blue cheese pasta
steak baguette
dill soup
sweet and spicy ribs

And a chocolate pot de creme dessert that was one of the best things I have ever put into my mouth.

Super highly recommended!!

Gloria's La Trattoria Cafe Napoli - Ft Myers

Quick review of Gloria's from our visit to Ft Myers last week.
http://www.latrattoriacafenapoli.com/

I have to say that this is a poster child Chowhound eatery. Unassuming mini-mall location off of the generally unappetizing route41. The interior is beautifully decorated, simple and stylish, you would never guess what you are walking into from the outside. The menu is a mix of spainish/italian influence. My wife had the evening special of grilled mahi with a variety of delicious garnishes. I had the 'family recipe' arroz con pollo, best I have ever had, not kidding. Interesting wine list with spainish/italian/us choices. Both food menu and wine list extremely reasonably priced, fantastic value for such quality. We were taken care of by Gloria herself. Obviously hardworking, along with her small/professional staff, some of whom seemed to be part of the family. The room was filled with locals who all seemed quite happy, I would have loved to have walked around and tried a little bit of what everyone was having, it all looked fantastic. Very highly recommended.

Best farmer's markets/ farm stands?

Very hard to beat Burlington...at least a dozen standard farmers setups, plus many many other special food stands, artists, etc. I guarantee success and enjoyment.

Misery Loves Company - Winooski/Burlington VT

I have to take a moment to strongly recommend this relatively new gem in the Burlington VT area. Misery Loves Company has had a food truck with a religious following for a few years, but now has a brick and mortar location in Winooski. Hard to do a better job than this review in Seven Days (weekly local newspaper):

For myself, I have been for supper a few times, ashamed to say I have not been for lunch yet. The fried chicken is a must....comes with three sides, easily feeds two people. Best idea is to come with at least 3-4 people to be able to sample a few small plates and one 'meat+3' (did I mention the fried chicken?). Menu changes constantly, extremely creative. The owners and staff are chock full of hard working young people trying to make something wonderful, you just have to love it.

Breakfast in Burlington? (VT)

Other choices...relatively new place (~2yrs old) that has greatly improved with time, The Spot on Shelburne Rd on the way out of town going south on rte7. Also there is Mirabelle's on Main St., which has wonderful pastries but also makes full breakfasts.

Long weekend in Burlington report

I greatly enjoy the Belted Cow in Essex Junction. Tuesdays are BBQ nights, the chef/owner has won national awards in that category.

Good Mexican Food?

Thanks CowGirl and others, I will confirm that here in 2012 Sarape in Enfield CT is still an excellent hole-in-the-wall, family run, quality Mexican eatery. Tacos al carbon were awesome. No one left hungry, I can tell you that.

Stand Out Vietnamese Place in Montreal?

Thanks so much for this recommendation. This was a fantastic, unique experience. The mountains of thai basil, sprouts, cilantro, lettuce, mint, etc. that come with any of these meals lead to a complete feeding frenzy. Any one of these platters pretty much can feed two people, and the flavors and textures are outstanding.
