Vegetarian Thanksgiving in Philadelphia?
Hey.
I will be visiting from out of town (San Francisco) this year, and am wondering if any restaurants or groups of progressive people will be hosting a Vegetarian Thanksgiving that I can participate in. Any ideas?
Vegetarian Thanksgiving, Bay Area, 2008?
Hey.
Am just wondering if anyone might be hosting a Vegetarian Thanksgiving in the Bay Area, where like-minded individuals might be able to come & participate, and connect with each other. Anyone know of anything?
Beet Salad in San Francisco...
I'm not sure how to answer that. It's been difficult to find one AT ALL, so I would start with ANY one that you think is good. I had one in Boston a few months ago (at Stephanie's on Newbury, if you've ever been there), which was GORGEOUS: Red beets, baby spinach, goat cheese, toasted walnuts, asparagus, tomatoes, pickled onions, chickpeas... It was really lovely. Something along the lines of that would be great, but I'm open to new experiences. If you know one that you really like, I would be happy to try it. Just point me in the right direction.
Beet Salad in San Francisco...
Can anyone tell me where I can get a good beet salad in San Francisco?
American Waffles in San Francisco?
I've been having a craving for ordinary AMERICAN waffles lately. Most Brunch places in San Francisco, if they have waffles AT ALL, only seem to have Belgian. And that's not a bad thing - Belgian Waffles are great. But what I'm craving lately is a blast from my past: Ordinary, square, American waffles (OK, they don't really have to be square), freshly made, with some real maple syrup! I'd prefer to NOT go to IHOP. I've been to quite a few Brunch places in San Francisco, but haven't been able to find this. Does anyone know of a place that serves American waffles?
Almond croissant taste test
I went back to Boulange de Cole (Bay Bread) the other day, with the express purpose of trying their almond croissant again, and possibly changing my opinion. Who knows? Maybe I was having a bad day when I tried them the first time. With so many glowing reviews, I MUST be in error, right? Unfortunately, I still feel the same way: While it is beautifully prepared, and while they fill their croissants with generous amounts of almond paste, I actually believe that these things are TOO much: "Almond Croissants On Acid", if you will. Yes, it IS possible to have too much of a good thing, and these croissants are the embodiment of that concept! Just OVERKILL, man! Way TOO decadent!!! So, yes, it sounds crazy, but I actually prefer an almond croissant with a bit LESS almond paste! At the moment, I'm going to have to go with Boudin, for lack of a better alternative. They're fresh-baked & delightful, and not hitting me over the head with their flavor. Oh, and I must mention Andersen Bakery, in the Crocker Galleria, in the Financial District. This place makes BEAUTIFUL pastries, all of them fresh-baked, every day. Quite often, when I order an almond croissant there, it is given to me WARM, right off the cooling rack! The only drawback is that their croissants (alas, their pastries IN GENERAL) are so impossibly small, you have to eat 2 of them to feel like you've eaten anything at all. Still, check them out. They're wonderful.
Almond croissant taste test
Dare I say it? While I certainly APPRECIATE the croissants at Bay Bread (who doesn't love a freshly baked croissant, warm from the oven?), somehow, they seem a bit TOO much. And I LOVE almond croissants! I never thought I'd say such a thing, but I feel like they kind of overdo it on the almond paste. Too much of a good thing, perhaps? I could actually go with less. That said, I'm not sure I can offer up another place to compete. Boudin, perhaps? Those are fresh-baked, too. It's about the best you can do in the Financial District, to be sure. I'm struggling to come up with an alternative...
Rold Gold Pretzels hard to find in San Francisco?

Thank you once again. I do appreciate it.

Rold Gold Pretzels hard to find in San Francisco?
OK, so is it me, or are Rold Gold pretzels suddenly very hard to find in San Francisco? I live in Cole Valley, and used to be able to get them at any number of small convenience stores (even just a small bag, if a large one wasn't available). Lately, however... I can't find ANY SIZE bag in ANY convenience store in my area! In fact, the only place that seems to carry them in the city anymore is Safeway. ...and I don't even shop at Safeway (I'm a bit more of a Trader Joe's/Whole Foods sort of person. Rold Gold is my only foray into the nationally-distributed, mainstream brands. And I do that because I've tried all the rest, and genuinely like these better). So, if there is some sort of distribution problem (with Frito-Lay products? I would find that hard to believe!), or perhaps some sort of quiet boycott among shop owners, could someone please clue me in? I'm taking to going out of my way to go to Safeway, and buy this one item. And it seems a bit ridiculous. I'm just curious.
Thanks.
