Brunch + all you can drink ALCOHOL.

According to the Ritz-Carlton website, the $79 pp price includes an all-inclusive Mimosa and Bellini bar.

Caught skimming the tip pool

On the other hand, could we not argue that the money was indirectly going into their pockets if they could "pay" salaries using not the revenue generated by the sale of food, but rather using the FOH's tip money? The lower bottom line has the effect of increasing their profit, and maybe allowing them to pay themselves more....

Best Sachertorte in Toronto and GTA

Thanks for the help navigating the menu. I've had very little exposure to German food so this is helpful. I will add this to my google map of restaurants to visit and will report back when I finally go!

Best Sachertorte in Toronto and GTA

Prima, how is the rest of the food at Old Country Inn? Is there anything in particular that you would recommend? I want to go try the Sachertorte and am wondering if the restaurant is worth driving out to.

Soma twigs - anyone tried them?

I thought the same thing when I opened it! I thought it'd be lots of small pieces - did not expect a bar at all.

President's Choice Black Label

Bought the Bacon Marmalade while in Ottawa on the weekend, and tried it out last night. Very, very good balance of flavours and delicious enough to eat on its own, though I love it with PB on bread. The earl grey shortbread thins, on the other hand, were merely okay. They were strong on the tea flavour and had nice bits of lemon zest, but they lacked the buttery richness I associate with good shortbread.

Le Creuset at Home Sense & Winners

Tons at the Vaughan Mills location, and the one at Centre and Bathurst as well.

So Your Friends Want to Go to A Chain Restaurant.... so What? :} [moved from Not About Food]

"The people I do feel sorry for are the ones who are stuck always going to restaurants they dislike, because their friends or family refuse to consider any other alternatives. And that applies both to people always being forced to go to Chilis and Cheesecake Factory and those who are always being forced to go to funky hole-in-the wall places or fine dining restaurants."

I agree with this completely. Compromising is important.

There is one family that I eat out with about 4 times a year and they always choose a chain or AYCE restaurant. Would I normally choose these restaurants myself? No, but I always find *something* on the menu, or plan to eat something else elsewhere when the meal is done. I do this because I genuinely enjoy the company of this family, and would not give up spending time with them just because I would not necessarily choose the restaurants they choose.

What Tastes Better Frozen?

Try it! As it begins to slowly defrost, it becomes verrry chewy.

Another one I thought of is mochi. Put it in the freezer for about half an hour so that it is not completely frozen. Love that texture.

What Tastes Better Frozen?

Oooh. I really like Kit Kat Chunky frozen. Something about the thick layer of milk chocolate...

I also like the above mentioned cookies (chocolate chip, white chocolate-macadamia nut, oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodles...I'm not picky) in frozen form, and will add: minigo yogurt, Rice Krispies squares and sometimes gummy worms.

Fruits these days... goes bad before ripening

I agree with you completely Bamia. I noticed this with my Ontario peaches this year, but I've also experienced this many, many times with avocadoes and apricots. They would be firm on the outside, but black/brown on the inside. Yuck. I've all but given up on buying either of these fruits, which is unfortunate since a good avocado or apricot is a beautiful thing.

The first time I had a tree-ripened banana (during my travels to Vietnam) was a complete revelation...

How do you like your coffee?

For hot coffee, I generally prefer it black (especially for good beans and/or a dark roast) though occasionally, I will have it with a splash of cream (particularly when it is a light coffee). If the coffee is on ice, I like it with 2% milk.

Excellent Yogurt From Canada

The 10% MF yogurts are very delicious indeed. Sometimes I am in the mood for plain (yes, they do make it), but my favourite flavours are: coconut; pineapple; blackberry and; mango orange.
