Best Take Out Dim Sum - SGV

Yum Cha is nowhere near the best. I might put up Famima's Steamy Buns against Yum Cha's Bao. I too would like to know of a better quality place which is more convenient for take out than going into a full service restaurant, ordering and hanging around the order is made up.

Meatball Subs

Nosh, There is a garage with 2-hour free parking right behind La Rocco's

Cleo on Vine

One note: The din in the place felt like it was over 100 Decibels, everyone was shouting to be heard. Other than that, it was very good.

Road food for Vegas Trek?

That would be a good Idea with pre-planing. For this trip though I would rather not head west before heading east.

Road food for Vegas Trek?

You can eat fried rice while driving? You are a better man than I.

Road food for Vegas Trek?

Dommy! has already done Donut Man this season and I'm not a big fan.

Road food for Vegas Trek?

I'm reviving this thread since we are about to head on another trip. We've done various Banh Mi's and had a fresh JalapeƱo experience which caused us to pull over at the nearest In-n-Out to cool the fire in our mouths with a Neapolitan shake. Plus we've done Dim Sum, beef rolls and other little things on the way out of the LA Basin. I think tomorrow, we'll try a place called Rika's Empanadas in Glendora to see if it's any good.

Are the any other thoughts on placed to find stuff for the trek out? Same rules apply.

626 Asian night market a ZOO!

A lot of the complaints seem to be about the traffic. Did anyone take the Gold Line to Memorial Park and walk the 10 minutes to the event? Did that change the perception of the event for you?

Looking fo Nutritional infromation for Tokotsu Pork Salt Broth.

With a plethora of Ramen places around I was wondering if anyone has come across complete Nutritional info for Tonkotsu Broth.

I am looking to see how much artery clogging damage I'm doing when I go to Santouka and downing a bowl of Tokusen Toroniku Ramen with the shio broth.

Take care

Dango Mochi & Mar Vista breakfast

One of the Best Chilaquiles in LA can be found at Peppy's Galley in Mar Vista. It's in the Mar Vista Lanes bowling alley, which is at the corner of Venice and Grand View Ave.

Tender Greens just opened in the Old Lighthouse Sushi space at Second and Arizona.

Eating healthy near Santa Monica 3rd street

That would be like comparing Lemonade to Hometown Buffet and I don't think the analogy works in this case Dommy and I went before a play at SM Playhouse last night and she had Tacos and i had the Panang Curry and while they weren't uber examples of their dishes I wouldn't call them uninspired. Though I will say the Ginger Libation she had last night was really good.

Furaibo...

I will say the thing to get there is the Hanpen Cheese. It is the best Filet-o-Fish type of dish I have ever had. Other than that the rest of the menu is ehhhhh.

Top 10 Chili Dogs in LA

FYI The article's author Tien is not Thi who was the Chowhounder turned reviewer. They are according to my wife who occasionally writes for Squid Ink, two different people.

Top 10 Chili Dogs in LA

No they wouldn't. I think that it's for the same reason DTF never opens on the Westside, rents are too high to make a buck. We do have two locations of "the Stand", Tubs chili has a snappy Sabrett's dog and decent chili though I hate their bun. and my current Fav dog is the Bird dog at Let's Be Frank and while they don't have chili they do have devil sauce which I think makes the whole thing work.

You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...

We were roaming the aisles of the Culver City Target and they now have Fry Sauce there

Coni's Seafood - ? RIP?

We had a similar experience 2 weeks ago, except it was on a Tuesday. We chalked it up to phone troubles and it being a Tuesday since Westsidegal had mentioned that they had been open about a week earlier.

Is there a CH Cooking or Eating out group in LA?

Both are links to the same thing. and truth be told the SCARF Board has not had traffic for a while, though it still works. Some folks have moved on and some have connected through other means [aka Facebook Google+ etc]. It seems that since Jim Leff sold Chowhound there was less of personal connection to the site. In the early days, we would get together for potlucks to fundraise for the site which was always seeming to be on the brink of financial peril. Since that's no longer the case, the motivation is no longer there to make such an effort.

Thai in culver city area

One note: Though we live close to Zam Zam we have never tried it because we never find it open. We have even been their for their stated open hours, which are not many, only to find it dark. Maybe we'll try again this weekend.

Sumo mandarins

Right, but the Sumo is a California Grown Dekopon. But TonyC suggested that one could get the Dekopons much cheaper by buying imported ones at Korean Markets and not have to pay the Marketing Surcharge placed on the Sumos. I'm curious to see if there is any taste or quality difference between the CA grown and the imported Japanese version if I can find them.

Sumo mandarins

Ive been to the Han Nam Market in Walnut and Assi In Koreatown and not see dekopons among the multitude of oranges and tangerines. Could you point me to someplace more specific? I'd really like to do a comparison.

Dolce Isola [aka The Ivy at a third of the cost]

The Gelato was back and the case was filled, though the praline gelato I had was icy to my taste. I will check out the other flavors before making a final decision

Mama's Pizza or Pasta on Motor, near National

I would agree. My work tends to order from them since the seem to get a discount for large orders. The Pizza it not good and there are much better places in the area La Rocco's comes top to mind.
