Where can I buy Shaoxing rice wine in St. Louis, MO

After numerous searches, I finally found some online...in New Jersey.

St. Louis is about an hour and a half drive for me, and I'd like to just walk in a market and buy a bottle. I DON'T want cooking wine.

Thanks

Marsha

Looking for the best brand of sauerkraut [St. Louis suburbs]

Thanks sueatmo. I may have to drive over to St. Louis the next time I visit my daughters. Or, Dierberg's may have a store on the Illinois side of the river - I'll have to check on that. One of the kraut dishes I want to make is cabbage rolls, which my aunt got from someone when I was in grade school - and I'm 75 now - so I've been eating this for a number of years. The house brand krauts I've tried just aren't tasty or tart enough.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestion. I see a pan of cabbage rolls in my near future.

Thanks for the tip about the coop, karykat. I wouldn't have thought to try there. There's one just a few miles from me. There's also a small Amish market not too far from where I live and I might try them, also! I'm envious of your kraut stones...I don't have anything like that from my family.

I'll see if the Frank's is available anywhere in my area. I stopped looking on the shelves for kraut because the bagged kraut was so much better than anything in a can.

Thanks for the tip.

Sorry - it's the St. Louis-Metro East area and is about 90 minutes from me. All my children live up there so I drive up fairly frequently.

Krrrisp Kraut sounds like the one I'm looking for. I'm always willing to try something new, but, as I said earlier, for years, the "Krrrisp Kraut" was the only one I saw. It had been recommended to me by a butcher in a market I used to frequent in St. Louis. They had been selling kraut from a barrel and decided to not do that any more.

Thanks for replying, momskitchen, but Detroit would be a bit too long a drive. I did see the name Silver Floss when I was trying all kinds of search terms to find the brand I was looking for, so if I find it when I try some of the markets in nearby towns, I'll see if anyone carries it.

My husband and I did make kraut years ago. The first year, it turned out great, so we planted more cabbage the next year. However, during one of those super hot June days, every single one of the cabbage heads burst and the kraut did not turn out well, at all!

Looking for the best brand of sauerkraut [St. Louis suburbs]

I realize the "best" of anything is very subjective, but the brand I've been using for years seems to have disappeared from my local markets in favor of their "house brand" which, in my not so humble opinion, is no good!

My problem is, for years the brand that's disappeared was usually the only brand, so I just picked up a bag and put it in the cart. I've forgotten the name - seems like it was Krispy or something like that.

Can anyone help me (1) remember the actual name of the bagged kraut that's disappeared and (2) tell me where it can be found in or near lower southern Illinois or possibly the Metro-East area.

Thanks for any help in my search.
