Hey everyone,

I'm a brooklyn transplant living in the great neck/ little neck area. Looking for something special for my wife's 32nd birthday. Does anybody know where the best birthday cakes are made? Also looking for an amazing restaurant, and a place to get awesome food for a picnic. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Italian in great neck/Little neck area?? Help!

Thanks for the input. I watched the Trobiano's episode on Hell's Kitchen last night - place was a train wreck. You haven't by any chance tried it yet have you? Even with Ramsey ripping the place a new one I'm hesitant to give it a try...

Italian in great neck/Little neck area?? Help!

Alright - so It's been a year since I move to the great neck/ Little neck area. And I've gotten used to the fact that this is where your taste buds go to die. But there are Italian restaurants every three feet around here (Aunt Bellas, Contis, Grotta, Vespa, etc. etc.), and I can't help thinking - at least ONE of these places has to make killer Italian food - right? They can't all be mediocre - right? Someone give me some good news. I'm looking for something that's at least on par with Noodle Pudding in Brooklyn Heights (great food, homemade pasta, not expensive). So?

Need great restaurant for wife's bday in west vill.

My wife loves any kind of food - as long as it's really good. Indian, Greek, Italian, French, Malaysian, you name it. Looking for under $100 if possible. Also open to something that might be a little different. So far friends have suggested Market Table and Mas Farm House. Anybody have any other suggestions in or near the west village?? Thanks!

Party Place in Brooklyn

Hey:

Just had a going away party from my old job and posed a similiar question- but didn't get any responses. I had a party of 25+. We landed up going to Bubby's in Dumbo. Food wasn't spectacular or anything (it was a little above average) but it's the perfect place for a big party. There was even another party there around the same time of about 100, so the place can definitely take a party of any size. We liked it because they were able to give us our own space on one side of the rest (it's bi-level), and they have a decent bar. It probably has some horrible reviews on here, but they've been turning the place around- and it's a chill place for a loud party. Good luck!

Dinner out as an engagement gift

I have chowhound friends in Boston (zagats is their bible) who are getting married. I thought it would be fun to get them a gift certificate to an exciting restaurant. They are daring with their tasks and like a little kick to their food. Any suggestions? (I don't live in or near Boston, so I'm clueless). They live on the outskirts, so really could do any place. . . Thanks in advance! (I was thinking of giving around $75)

Great Indian- in Glen Oaks

Definitely a little bit out of the way- but far better than ANYTHING I had when we lived in Brooklyn. The place is called Santoor. We got the chicken tikka masala, this interesting cauliflower!? dish (don't remember the name, but it was really good), and some regular and garlic naan. Everything had just the right amount of spice and was really really tasty. The wait staff was almost a little over-friendly though. Don't know if I'd suggest someone go out of their way to go there- but if you're in the area, definitely check it out!!

BTW: It's in a strip mall with a burlington coat factory, no joke.

yum yum.

30th bday dinner in Brooklyn

Hi all-

My wife is turning the big 3-0 and I want to take her out for a nice dinner on her bday. We live in the bk heights area but are willing to travel. She eats EVERYTHING. Want to make it special- but nothing too outrageously expensive though. Anyone have any ideas??

Curry Leaf- at death's door??

The indian food in bkheights has never been anything special, but my wife and I could always count on great chicken tikka masala at Curry Leaf. Well- no more. Had it delivered last night. It tasted like they had dumped a pound of salt in it, and it was strangely spicy. I would go so far as to call it borderline horrible. The naan has also gone WAY downhill from when we first had their food about 2 years ago. It was just sad.

DIB - Five Front

I went to the DIB a few nights ago. It was great- I had fresh salad for the first course, rissotto for the second (not Noodle puddin ggood, but very good nonetheless), and chocolate cake for dessert. My wife just went for their phenomenal burger and fries.
Definitely worth checking out.

Help! Moving from bklyn to Little Neck/Great Neck

Thanks for the help everyone. All this positive feedback about the food makes me/us happier about the move. To answer your question- we love all kinds of food, as long as its good- especially Indian, Mexican and Thai.

Help! Moving from bklyn to Little Neck/Great Neck

In a quest for more space for less money me and the wife are moving from Dumbo/Bk Heights- to a community on the border of Little Neck (Queens- so hopefully this won't get bumped), and Great Neck (LI). My worst fear is having nowhere locally to venture out of my apartment for great chow. Anyone know about good food in the area?? The only thing I know of is that there's a Peter Lugers in that area, and a pretty good diner (yes- that's right- a diner) named Scobee's.

Help!

Authentic Thai food in Brooklyn?

Not a big fan of Lantern, but I'll agree on Joya being good, their Pad Thai is one of my favorites anywhere. Not "authentic"- but tasty.

Best Mideast on Atl. Ave.

Though also not on on Atlantic I would add the mideastern place on henry st. in the heights. They make a mean koftka kabob.

Best Brooklyn dinner spot near Fort Greene

I'm going to have to go with Noodle Pudding- right next to Henry's End- great italian- very reasonable. Try the gnocchi in butter sauce- it's awesome.
