Try Govenor in Dumbo. It is by the people who run Colonie, but they take reservations unlike Colonie. It is a very nice space and lovely food. http://www.governordumbo.com/

I just put together a huge list for my sister-in-law's wedding this weekend - the hotel is downtown. If you are willing to walk 15 minutes there is no shortage of food and drink around the area.

We went for my birthday dinner and really enjoyed it. I recommend going there around 6:30 and putting your name in and then they will text you when a table is available. You then can get a drink somewhere in the neighborhood (Bar Harry or Jakewalk are right there) and eat around 8pm.

If you already made a reservation for August they have kept it for you. They are no longer taking new reservations for the Tues-Thursday dinners.
