Garlic on Wailae in Kaimuki -- bad experience

I was very excited to try Garlic on Wailae ave and was meeting up with my husband there last night. We were both running late and I called to see what time they served until -- the nice lady on the phone told me 9:30 so I put our name in for 9:15. First when I got there I could not find parking. I called and a rude guy on the phone told me the kitchen was closed and he had no recs for parking. I said I had put my name in and I was told the kitchen was open. He woudln't answer me when I asked if the kitchen was open -- I decided I would still give it a try and see if they would seat me. When I finally found a spot up the block and walked in no one came to talk to me for awhile. One guy finally came up to me and seemed annoyed "was that you on the phone? Let me check." He storms off. Someone else comes up and asks if I have been helped, I say I wasn't sure. He goes off. The first guy walks by me and slams some stuff down on a table next to me. I was feeling uncomfortable at this point. Finally I get seated and no one comes by for 10 minutes. When my husband gets there I tell him we should leave. I tell one of the waiters and he doesn't even say a word to me. I understand they were probably closing up shop but they should have just said that me. We had to go to Chilis, I like Chilis but I was in the mood for something else, but at that time it was too late for anything else. I am bummed but I probably won't give Garlic another chance.

Christmas buffet in Kihei/Wailea

I know the Fairmont Kea Lani has one. I went there for thanksgiving and it was great -- even I thought that and I am a vegetarian so thanksgiving isn't my top holiday! They are doing a Christmas buffet with open bar included. I would bet its about 100 plus a head.

Any vegetarian cooking classes in Oahu?

Aloha all,
I am moving to Hawaii Kai on Oahu in two weeks!!! I am a vegetarian and would love to take some cooking classes -- I need to learn some veggie friendly recipes or my husband will soon reject veggie burgers and go back to meat and I would love to meet some new people.

Any suggestions?

Three Nights in Waikiki! Help!

My husband and I are moving to Oahu in a few months -- he has been there at least 40 times and its our dream come true. I am beyond happy there is an active Chowhound board! I participate in my local one now (Rhode Island) and can't wait to try all that Oahu has to offer! Thanks for the list KaimukiMan, what a treasure trove!

pacific o or i o in maui?

Really? I have been to Pacific O three times and each time was memorable. I have eaten all over the world and loved the whole dining experience there -- beach front dining and some very modern cuisine. IO is always empty, I don't know why but it is.

Seafood dinner in Providence

that place was good a few years ago, in fact amazing, and then they switched chefs and the whole menu changed and it was no longer any good. Too bad the owners didn't just leave well enough alone.

High End Liquor Stores in Providence

I am not sure if this is quite a typical Chowhound topic but I know this is the group with the expertise I need to ask! I want to buy my fiance a nice high end rum for Christmas. Do anyone have any suggestions for a high end liquor store in the Providence area that has a good selection of rums?

New Rivers in Providence Reopening

I am part of that young crowd and have been disappointed that New Rivers stops serving at 9 PM. As a young person, I want to come a bit later for dinner on a weekend night. That has kept me away since the reopening. My fiance and I never seem to want to cut our day off short to go to an early dinner and are too tired on Friday to run there right after work.

Best steak in Providence

With all of the new steak places in Providence, where do you think the best steak in Providence is? I still love Prime on Atwell's Ave...and I love the mac n' cheese side dish. What do you all think?
