Moving to Perimeter Mall Area
We love 5 Seasons Brewing Co. At Roswell and 285. Sounds/looks like just a bar, but food is seasonal and very good. Beer is great too! You also have Alons right across the street from the mall for gourmet goodies, sandwiches, etc. Great lunch spot. Several breakfast spots near Roswell and Hammond: Flying Biscuit is my fav, but J. Christophers has a cute, quiet patio when weather is nice.
Cocktails and Korean in ATL?
Not sure I can judge "really good" Korean, but if you're staying downtown there's a nice Korean restaurant on Peachtree across from Woodruff Park called Blossom Tree. I believe it's only open for lunch though, like many of the restaurants downtown.
Need a reliable rec for early Friday night dinner Downtown
Lunacy is a hike from where you're staying - 10 blocks or more, I'd estimate. Probably want to cab it if you decide to go there. I've had both very good plates and mediocre ones there, so it's more of a risk than other suggestions posted here IMHO.

I second Alma Cocina. It just opened around New Years so it's been packed for lunch most days when I'm downtown for work, but it's very good and almost directly across the street from the Ellis. They take reservations, which is nice too. I loved their barbacoa sandwich. http://www.alma-atlanta.com/ They're owned by Fifth Group restaurants, known for South City Kitchen, among others.
I've had lunch at the Terrace at Ellis twice - nothing impressive, just some fairly boring salsds and sandwiches. Drinks on the terrace overlooking Peachtree is very relaxing at happy hour though.
Indian Redux
I really want to go because it's the cuisine of Kerala, which you don't find too often in Indian restaurants, so I want to see if I can tell the difference. I have a friend from Kerala and she was really excited about this place. Plus, there was a cooking class with the chef/owner on Scoutmob that I'm considering doing too.
Friday lunch in the Virginia Highlands
Murphy's is a good choice in VaHi for a leisurely lunch. For a quicker but tasty option, I also like Super Pan. I have never been for lunch, but always liked Atkins Park for a relaxed dinner too.
Best Seafood Restaurant ATL
Depending what part of town you'll be in, Ray's in the City or Ray's on the River might be good options.
Birthday Dinner Ideas - Entertaining and International?
Have you tried Spice Market in the W Midtown? Great cocktails, fun atmosphere, and good Thai food to order and share. No live performance, but a great place to hang and start a night out with the girls.
Best Bakery for Cake
Smyrna and Roswell are just too far a trip for me with all the other stops I have to make that day (balloons, etc.). I think I'll probably try Rhodes or just stick with Piece of Cake (headed there for strawberry cupcakes today for Valentines anyway!).
HD1 - Anyone been yet?
I finally went ot HD1 for lunch today, mainly because of the Scoutmob deal, but also had the time today on my schedule to drive for lunch rather than walk around downtown. We were all pretty pleased with what we got, especially at half off, but I'm not sure I'll make the effort to go again when I could go to Super Pan across the street. I had the bratwurst, but it was so covered in mustard and carmelized onions that I really couldn't taste the brat at all. We all liked the grilled wings best, honestly. I'll give it another try if my coworkers want to go again, but I don't think it's going to be a real destination in my mind.
Looking for great crab cakes
Can't say any really good ones pop to mind for me, but I did a brief stint as a waitress at Atlanta Fish Market about 8 years ago and we were told to say the crab cakes were 90% lump crab with just enough filler to hold them together. They were made in-house. I didn't have the knowledge back then to judge whether that was accurate, but that little factoid popped to mind when I read your post. But I can't say I remember any crab cake experience in Atlanta dining that really compared to Maryland.
Best Bakery for Cake
Baking is not my forte, so I need to buy a cake for my son's birthday next week. We're doing a big chocolate chip cookie "cake" for the kids party (toddlers), but I wanted a really high quality cake for the family party, which will be mostly adults. Last year we did Piece of Cake cupcakes, which are always a fantastic, but I've never had their full sized cakes and don't know how they compare. I hear great things about Henri's, but have never had an actual cake from there (just sandwiches mainly). My mother-in-law bought an amazing cake for my bridal shower - I want to say it was from somewhere on Cheshire Bridge - but I'm not sure of the bakery's name.
Anyway, I'd like to keep it in the Buckhead or Sandy Springs/Perimeter area for convenience, so looking for recommendations. Thanks!
Need suggestions, what to add in the crayfish risotto. Asparagus? Mushrooms?? Nothing???
Those both sound too earthy to me. I'd go with peas and parmesan or maybe even some sweet corn, if you had some of that in the freezer.
Mello Mushroom Pizza, Downtown
Glad you found this great local gem! It's a Friday night standard for our family.
Need a restaurant suggestion for a business/celebration dinner for 12...
Any specific part of town you're looking at?
Local 3 has a neat private room, though I'm not sure how many it fits, and it's a more casual vibe.
I second Pricci too.
Leftover Hoppin' John
So I'm trying to merge family traditions with my Southern husband and this year made hoppin' john along with pork tenderloin and biscuits so that we both had representations of our family traditions for new years (my family: pork & sourkraut; his: hopping john & rice). But with just 2 of us and a toddler, I have half a pound of hoppin' john leftover now (Emeril's recipe). Any ideas what to do to re-purpose it, rather than just reheat and repeat? I thought about making rice and adding shrimp, but hubby shook his head at the idea. Any other thoughts?
The Cafe at the Ritz Carlton
If you mean the downtown Ritz, I don't think it would fit for a "ladies lunch". Buckhead, yes. Very old school, southern atmosphere.
Lunch at FLL airport or near Boca Raton Resort & Club
I wish I could try it, but I'm currently pregnant so sushi is out. I guess I should have specified that in the original post.
Downtown Atlanta Bars (a little divey okay)?
Nothing really comes to mind in downtown - it's set up for business dinners and tourists, so not a lot of divey-local spots available. There's a dive called SideBar on Poplar, but it might be full of GSU students and is more of a greasy sportsbar. Gibney's is in the back of Peachtree Center mall and is a happy hour spot for local workers. Manuel's Tavern in Virginia-Highlands might fit the bill better than anything downtown and would be a short taxi ride; it has a lot of heritage in Atlanta.
Lunch at FLL airport or near Boca Raton Resort & Club
I'm headed to the Boca Raton Resort & Club for a work event next week. I'll have 1 free meal (lunch on Monday) and am looking for reccommendations either in the Ft. Lauderdale airport or within walking distance of the resort. I will not have a car, so it needs to be in these 2 specific areas. I'll be eating at the resort all week, so prefer to dine off-site for this one meal. No restrictions on price or cuisine - just tell me what's nearby and tasty!

Thanks - I didn't see that board but will do.

HD1 - Anyone been yet?
I was reading John Kessler's review of HD1, Blais' new hot dog restaurant, and was wondering if anyone had tried it. I work downtown and was thinking I might drive over for lunch to check it out some day, but the few reviews I've seen were not that impressed with the food. I'll probably try it out after the holidays anyway, but would love to know what people ordered and what was good/bad/mediocre.
Thanks!
Need Casual Supper Suggestion Near High Museum
Be sure to post where you eat, and I'd love to hear what you think of the "Picasso to Warhol" exhibit if you see that. I'm dying to go but haven't found the time.
Need Casual Supper Suggestion Near High Museum
You're in a great spot for options within 2-4 blocks right there. Tap at 14th and P'tree is a nice gastropub with some interesting food and great beer. Across the street is Shout (sister restaurant to Twist in Buckhead, haha) that does tapas, sushi and regular entrees, and is a trendy favorite for early dining before hitting the Midtown nightlife. A little further down 14th street is Spice Market, from Vongerichten. I love this place for interesting cocktails and thai food, as well as fun people-watching since it's in the W hotel. The other direction down 14th on Crescent is South City Kitchen, a favorite for upscale Southern cuisine. Any of these are an easy walk so I'd park near the High and hoof it.
Inexpensive dining "experiences" near Marriott Marquis?
Just a note that Grindhouse is also only open for lunch.
Inexpensive dining "experiences" near Marriott Marquis?
Lunacy Black Market is probably getting the most buzz in the downtown area right now that would fit your inexpensive experience criteria. It's about a 15 block walk from your hotel, but you might convince the hotel shuttle to take you there. There are some interesting options down Broad St., but most are only option for lunch. If you need lunch, I suggest Dua for pho, Blossom Tree (new Korean place on Peachtree), or Rosa's for NY style pizza. Dinner can be challenging downtown - there are a couple threads on this board about Downtown dining options that might help if you search "downtown".
I've never brined a turkey . . .
My mom cooked Thanksgiving for decades before we tried a brine when I first got into cooking. She now swears it's the best, simplest change for preventing dried out turkey and will never skip it again. We had a hot Thanksgiving 2 years ago and couldn't leave the bird outside in a bucket like normal, so we bought those giant liner bags for crock pots and brined it in the bag in the fridge, much like marinating. We put the whole bird in the bag, filled with brine, knotted it tight, bagged it again, then placed it in the roasting pan to catch leaks. We just had to turn it several times since it wasn't fully submerged. Just wanted to share that bucket-alternative!
Dinner near Embassy Suites - Perimeter Center?
Embassy Suites offers a local shuttle that would take you to the mall. Goldfish would be a nice seafood option there.
