Coming to NY - Please review my eating itinerary!!

Hi all,

I'm coming to NYC for the a few days at the end of Dec, staying in a hotel near West 51st Street. After extensive research (mainly tips from here!), my food itinerary is below -any thoughts, even on what we simply must order in the places?? !

Any suggestions for breakfasts would be great, somewhere near the hotel. Either a diner, a cafe, or just a takeout bakery. Not overly worried about breakfast, its just something to quickly eat before exploring.

Thurs
Lunch: Angelo's Pizzeria midtown - near to hotel and going to explore that area.
Dinner: Wild edibles or Millesime?

Fri
Breakfast: ?
Shopping, touristy christmas stuff
Lunch: Oyster Roll - thinking Lukes?
Dinner: Trattoria Trecolori - seeing a show and its near the hotel and theatre.

Saturday
Breakfast: ?
Lunch: Minetta Tavern - We are having a late dinner that evening so not sure if we should go to Minetta but its the only time we could get a reservation that suited?
Dinner: Basso 56 - Going to the fireworks in Central Park @ Midnight so would appreciate a recommendation for a bar in that area before or after?

Sunday
Breakfast: ?
Lunch Katz or Russ & Daughter
Dinner: Keens

Monday:
Breakfast: ?
Brunch: Not sure because we will need to leave for the airport around half 4?

As you can see, we are trying to fit a lot into a small amount of time! Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million!

Daniel for New Years Eve??

Hi dyrewolf,

I am over from Ireland for a holiday and also looking for somewhere to go for New Year's eve and i am very interested in your suggestion of going for dinner uptown and then on to the park for fireworks @ midnight.
Could you please suggest a few places for dinner, i agree with you about a lower end restaurant as i dont think the food will be great in most places on NYE. I have heard a few suggestions about Angelo's on this board, any thoughts on this?
Also if you have any more info about the fireworks in the park and local bars to go to, it would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell i have little or no knowledge of the area but i do want to avoid the tourist trap of Times Square!

Thanks so much.

Visiting for New Year's Eve suggestions....Please!!

Thanks everybody for coming back with some suggestions. We definitely dont mind having to get a train if it means getting a decent meal away from all the hype, so any suggestions please forward on! Also I have heard about a restaurant called DB Bistro Moderne, is this any good, what would it be like on New Year's Eve atmosphere wise?

Thanks!

Visiting for New Year's Eve suggestions....Please!!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your speedy replies!
My friend has already booked the accomodation so we are going to be staying near Times Square.
However, we are planning and not being near the vicinity on New Year's Eve, I have heard the nightmare stories! Hence we are looking for some good quality restaurant recommendations away from Times Square, but would be able to walk back to our hotel or get the train back after our night out.

I did check out your other link but that girl ended up booking a place in Times Square, im definitely going to stay away from there!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Visiting for New Year's Eve suggestions....Please!!

Hi All,

We are heading out to NYC from Ireland on 29th December. We want somewhere GOOD to eat, we know we will have to have a big budget on New Year's Eve, we are not fussy eaters - so anything from steak, seafood or pasta. Doesnt have to be a really fancy restaurant but we do appreciate good food.

If possible, it would be nice if we could stay in there for midnight or be near somewhere that we can go after that will be busy but not completely packed, we dont mind not being in Times Square at all! Would be great to go to a restaurant that has a decent bar in it or nearby for afterwards.

We are staying on West 51st Street - I know the distance from the hotel will be an issue on NYE but we would be willing to walk a bit or get a train even. Also we are in our late 20's, if this is relevant! As you can see, I need some help! All comments welcome and thank you in advance!!

Maggie
