Soft Shell Crabs in DC

Soft shells are the monthly special at Clyde's restaurants, some of which are in Montgomery.

Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please

The Clarendon one is much larger with a greater selection and wider aisles than the Foggy Bottom store. It is across the street from the Metro while Foggy Bottom is a three block walk to Metro. Both are on the 38B bus line. One additional bonus to Clarendon is that they don't charge five cents a bag.

In DC for 5 days/nights, must try places?

You might want to do the Obama tour, restaurants where the President ate, either with Michelle or with other people. A brief list includes The Source, Equinox, and The Majestic at the higher end of cost and Ray's Hell Burger and Ben's Chili Bowl on the lower part of the cost spectrum.

Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives..... type places located in Northern Virginia

Bob and Edith's Diner on Columbia Pike in Arlington is the perfect diner dive.

Jay's on North 10th Street in Clarenden is a perfect diver bar dive.

Where can I buy Virginia peanuts?

I have seen a display section of Virginia peanuts at Giant, at least the one on Washington Boulevard near Vriginia Square.

In love with KOMI but need to give others a chance!

i second The Source. It is extremely expensive with a tasting menu and wine pairing coming to two hundred dollars a head but it is excellent and, of course, they pamper you quite well.

Rasika Reviews?

Get the tasting menu, regular or vegetarian. It isn't cheap but it does give you what the chef believes are his best dishes.

24 hour or late night places in Northern Virginia

Jay's Saloon in Clarendon is open until midnight each night and until two am on Friday and Saturday. Its' food is saloon fare, quite cheap, and the joint is jumping with an extremely eclectic crowd.

Looking for good food in the vicinity of George Washington University

I recommend Marshall's which is a bar upstairs and a small restaurant downstairs. It isn't fancy but it is good standard fare. It is located at 2524 L Street NW but is quite visible from Pennsylvania Avenue.

Between E/19th and any Orange Line station

You might try Tonic which is at 2036 G Street NW which is very close to 19th and E.

Mexican/Salvadorian place that is somewhere between a hole in the wall and Oyamel?

Guajilo in the strip mall that houses Rays Hell Beurger at 1727 Wilson Blvd. would be a good pick. As to Metro, take the Orange line to Court House and walk down hill, eat, and continue the downhill walk to the Rosslyn Metro.

Where's the shad???

Shad was an appetizer at The Majestic in Alexandria about two weeks ago.

Buffet/ kid friendly restaurant in the DC, Northern Virginia area.

If you are willing to take the Metro, including a change at Rosslyn from the Blue Line to the Orange Line, Liberty Tavern about a block from the Clarendon Metro is an excellent spot for both kid- and adult-friendly food. If the chidl doesn't like any "adventurous" possibilities, the thin-crusted pizza is an excellent fall-back option.

Casual Italian In or Near Rosslyn (and Thanks)

Although the menu is eclectic, there are some Italian specialties at the Village Bistro, a restaurant in the same strip mall as Ray's Hell Burger. I do see a lot of small groups in there and the menu is broad enough to please almost everyone.

Can you ID this restaurant?

That is defunct also and has been replaced by a Corner Bakery.

G&M Restaurant Crab Cakes

A friend took me there on Friday before we headed to an Orioes game. The waiter touted the crab cakes so we both had the crab cake sandwich which was quite a bit of crab cake but which seemed to be relatively tasteless. The sandwich platter was extremely cheap, so I guess we deserved what we got. From what was coming out of the kitchen, the portions are large. Perhaps they will get around to good eventually.

Dress Code at Rasika and Tosca. Also what to order?

I have been to both and have worn a dress shirt and slacks, no tie and no jacket. The dining room is a mix of dressy and casual. If you look at your companion and your food and ignore the other diners, you won't feel out of place.

Any DC Restaurants Serving Beef or Lamb Shank?

Lyon Hall, the new Alsatian restaurant on Washington boulevard in Calendon, has lamb leg on the menu.

Must Visit Restaurants In DC, Arlington Area

I would add Lyon Hall, owned by the Liberty Tavern people, on Washington Blvd. a block away from the Clarendon Metro down Highland Street.

Disapointed at Ray's the Classics

I have taken several people to the mother ship of Ray's The Steaks and some have remarked that the service is pretty much rushing you out of the door. I guess you can chew slowly, sip rather than gulp, and try everything to cut the pace. My experience at Classics has been the opposite, that service is so slow that you are there longer than you want to be. So it goes!

Restaurants That Can Prepare Low Sodium Meals On Request

Is there any place within downtown Washington where the chef can prepare a dish with no sodium? One of our guests has this dietary restriction.

Place to eat early evening at 21st and M NW?

There is always Luigi's which is on 19th Street half-way between L and M. You could be out in less than an hour.

Visiting DC - Steak Rec for anniversary dinner?

Ray;s The Steaks is right across the street from the Court House Metro stop on the Orange line. It is easily visible if you take the elevator to the street and look to you right. Ray's has no dress code and you can make a phone reservation in advance.

Announcement: New Board Breakdown for Chowhound

I may be alone in this, but I believe that the Washington, DC and Baltimore boards should be separated. There is a very clear line in the area of which direction people want to go to eat and few seem to go to the other area except as a special day out.

Looking for prix fixes or specials in the DC/Arlington area

Ray's the Steaks might fit. The special, which has a steak, the veggies, and dessert, comes to $19.95. If you make a reservation, you get to sit in the better part of the restaurant. And, of course, the wine list is fine.

Favorite restaurants in Wheaton

Cristina's an Italian restaurant on University Blvd. It is very old style and doesn't serve pizza (although it is on the children's men) but it does have excellent pasta in good-sized portions.

Moving to Vienna, need recs

You might want to try Sunflower Vegetarian restaurant in Vienna. Although veggie, most of the dishes appear to be variations of Thai food.

authentic ethnic restaurants in DC area

Tyler Cowan's web site has all sorts of information on ethnic dining and might be the first place that you would look for information on various ethnic restaurants:

Eats near L'Enfant Plaza Hotel

There is nothing really good in the immediate vicinity. Your best bet, in heels, is to make to downstairs to the Mall and pick a takeout place that serves something to your liking.

Good vegan-friendly restaurants in Fairfax?

There is Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant with two branches, one in Falls Church and one in Vienna. It is completely vegan,
