Welcoming Surprise - Decent and Authentic Mexicam Food in Richmond Hill!!

Culinary wasteland - haha! We live at Bathurst and Teston. We call the 400, 407, 404 the Death U for lack of restaurants etc. We have avoided Three Amigos due to Yelp and Urbanspoon. We will have to give it a shot.

What can I buy and bring to a potluck brunch?

Not close to Leslieville, but we have enjoyed the porchetta from Vicentina. You can go in and have them chop off a slab or pre-order. Always a fan favourite.

MANCHEGO – Cheese of the Month (April 2013)

Perhaps obvious, but this has good quality olive oil as a base, no tomato sauce. I believe they use mission figs.

MANCHEGO – Cheese of the Month (April 2013)

Pizza with figs, serrano ham, manchego, parmesan, fontina and buttered leeks. Inspired by Jospehine's in Grennsboro, NC. It is delicious.

Internet Coupon meal experiences please

Went to Tundra for a 3 course + wine coupon. Honestly I cannot remember where we got it. Service was atrocious. While seating us they remembered (out loud) we had said we had the coupon and abruptly sat us in a less desirable table. The entrees were fairly good, everything else sub standard. The wine they served was not drinkable (and I can drink just about anything). I have never been there without a coupn, maybe it is just bad all the time?

High Point - Sushi Republic and O'So Tavern

Yes, you are correct. Sushi Republic is in Greensboro. Unfortunately at this point I don't believe I can edit my post.

High Point - Sushi Republic and O'So Tavern

We have visitied High Point several times for market and tried many restaurants. The only two that we have visited worth mentioning are Sushi Republic and O'So Tavern

Sushi Republic - we have visited twice and had great meals both times. Always busy, servers great and a big selection. Prices may be on the higher end for sushi, but definetely worth it.

O'So Tavern - tried tonight for the first time based on online reviews. We focused on their seafood which was reasonably priced. Tuna on wonton to start was delicious. Grouper with crab stuffing and pasta with seafood in a cream sauce also really good. One of the owners (Jimmy) stopped by our table and asked us about our dinner. He actually stayed to hear the response. Sent over a free dessert. Class act. We will be sure to stop by on our next visit.

Butter Chicken - Recipe?

I thought for sure this would have been discussed to death, but I couldn't seem to find any discussions on a good recipe for Butter Chicken. I have tried most recipes I could find online and nothing seems to come even close to restaurant quality. If anyone can share their recipe I would really appreciate it.

Celestin - Don't Go

I agree, Amaya is overpriced. Especially when you compare it to the Copper Chimney which is way better imo.

Massimo Bruno's Italian Supper Club

A few weeks ago we stumbled across this suppper club online. We decided to check it out. It was a lovely evening all round. The food was fantastic. It was $85 per person, bring your own wine. You all sit at one long table. I believe that night was 40 people. If you do not like small talk this is not for you. I would highly recommend it though. Massimo is quite entertaining without taking over the evening. Food was served family style with ample portions. Our dinner was at the Manor House, but the venues change throughout the GTA.

Celestin - Don't Go

I have been lurking on Chowhound for years. I am one of those people that you probably hate because I reap all of the benefits of Chowhound and don't contribute back. But today all of that will change. That is how bad my lunch at Celestin was.

I had been to Celestin for dinner a couple years ago. It was an unimpressive meal all aound, but I thought that perhaps it was a one off experience. Today we went to Simple Bistro and found that it was closed, we decided to give Celestin another shot. I had the lunch prix fixe. Vichyssoise, salmon with potato and creme brulee. My husband also had the vichyssoise, mussels and fries. Every part of this meal was subpar. My serving of soup was ridiculously small in comparison to my husbands. They explained that this was because it was part of the special. This would have been totally understandable if the menu said 1/2 serving. But seriously, how much can potato soup cost? I would say it was somewhere between 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup. The fish was burnt on the skin side, as were the potatoes which tasted as if they had been kicking around for days. My husbands meal was not "bad" in anyway but was completely unremarkable. My $11 glass of Merlot had clearly been open for several days and was beginning to turn.

If you are thinking about it, don't do it.

On another note I promise to be a contributing member starting today :-)
