Rehoboth Beach Delaware--Long Weekend

A new one for me this summer: Salt Air in Rehoboth. I particularly recommend the jalapeno deviled eggs and the shrimp and grits. The latter is the lightest (in a good way) itineration I've had on that dish, and perfectly done.

Excellent cocktails too, and they leave the shakers on the table, so you really get two drinks for the price of one.

Who makes Trader Joe's private label foods?

The big containers of blueberries out right now are not.

I know they've already been mentioned, but the PEACHES (in the box that says "I'M RIPE" on the side) are amazing this year.

Who makes Trader Joe's private label foods?

The fresh bakery breads are regionally different. In the Philadelphia area (for sure at least the Philly and Wilmington, DE stores), they are LeBus breads.

A lot of the produce is from Dole.

The old frozen Pesto Tortellini was made by Amy's. I don't know about the new one.

I'm fairly certain the Salted Caramel Gelato is made by Talenti.

The jelly beans say they're made in Ireland, which points to the Jelly Bean Factory: All of their beans are already free of GMO and artificial colors/flavors, which makes them a natural fit for TJ's.

Natural by Nature Milk

It's sold at many independent health food stores here in Delaware. It's my favorite milk, too, though I can't comment on anything but the whole milk, as that's all I buy.

Olive Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil for sauteing?

I was going to recommend that Trader Joe's non-EV olive oil. I use it all the time.

Has anyone tried these? My significant otter is a pie fanatic and said about five times "It's three pounds! Three pounds of pie!"

I like the Charmingly Chewy ones in the cookie (not bakery) section. But, obviously, if it's not chewy you're after...

Haven't tried the rice crisps, but the salt and pepper ridged potato chips are my all time favorite grocery store chips. Plenty of pepper. These are the only item I can think of that I just cannot buy - I have excellent willpower but not with those ridges.

There aren't enough lemon flavored desserts, at least not enough that don't taste like Lysol. Looking forward to trying this.

What stores/chains would you drive long distances for?

When the future Mr. Rilke and I get married, we plan move to Lancaster County. The nearest Trader Joe's will be about an hour / sixty miles away. I will happily make the trek once a month to stock up (big time).

Not really a yay or nay, but I was disappointed when I looked at my newest bag of the dried white peaches and saw that sulfur dioxide is now in the ingredients list. It used to be a single ingredient list: peaches. I like them so much I will probably continue to buy them, but I'm not happy.

Edit: I just looked up the product on Fooducate and sulfur dioxide is listed there. Has it been there all along?? I could have SWORN it wasn't before.

The guac hummus is blech. I don't think TJ's has a truly standout guac, though I do like the reduced guilt for what it is.

I like milk, but I've never been a fan of whipped cream. The made-from-scratch stuff can be really excellent, but it's unfortunately uncommon. The stuff from the can, blech.
