OMG. Anyone...please help. In Savannah after being in Charleston (FIG, McCrady's, The Ordinary, The Grocery) and have had horrible meals here so far. No need to list them though I'll say The Olde Pink House was in the mix. Caveat...I'm with 4 other people and have two dogs so I need an outside table. Someone recommended Cha Bella and someone else, the Firefly. I don't want anymore fried tomatoes or shrimp and grits. Just good salads, interesting apps, entrees that are not completely meat and seafood centric. A good mix. I only have one night left. Thanks!!

Charleston restaurants: Need one more!!

Thank you to everyone! I've chosen McCrady's. I think I'll try some of the other suggestions for lunch spots! I appreciate the help so much!

Charleston restaurants: Need one more!!

Thanks so much! I was thinking about McCradys for dinner and Cru for lunch. I had a slight hesitation about the set menu at McCradys because I'm a vegetarian and my husband is gluten intolerant so set menus are difficult for us. I'll look at the others suggested too. I'd heard of The Grocery but none of the others. Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!

Charleston restaurants: Need one more!!

Going to Charleston in October and need one more restaurant. Have reservations at Husk, FIG, The Ordinary. Don't particularly want a place that focuses on Southern Cuisine (grits, shrimp, fried foods). Isn't there an Italian spot kind of in a neighborhood? Entertaining the thought of McCradys or Cru. Thoughts?

Boca Raton-Del Ray Beach Restaurants?

Hi. I'll be at the Boca Raton resort next week and am looking for the best, fit for foodie restaurants in Boca, Del Ray or similarly close (20-25 min drive). I need four restaurants. Has anyone been to Max's Harvest or DIG? I'm a personal chef so I'd rather not go to Capital Grill or any other chain-like place! Thanks!

Dried Mushroom Question

I'm planning on making the Epicurious recipe Porcini-Crusted Filet Mignon with Fresh Herb Butter. I have dried morels on hand and am wondering if I can substitute them for the porcini. I'm not sure if they will be more overwhelming (or gritty) than the porcini's and also don't know if morels will match well with the tarragon and chives in the butter. Any help would be appreciated.

Immediate help needed! Charleston

HI. FIG was divine. We also enjoyed dinner at Lucca and lunch at Caviar and Bananas. I wasn't impressed with Cru or High Cotton.

Immediate help needed! Charleston

Thanks so much. There's an art tour this weekend and I was told that even the tables typically held for walk-ins at Husk are reserved. The bar was packed at 4:30 so I may have to rule it out, unfortunately. Thank for letting me know that you don't think the Fat Hen is worth the trouble.

Immediate help needed! Charleston

Ok, I'm in Charleston at ate at Cru Cafe last night per recommendations on Trip Advisor and Chowhound. God help me, I had no idea it was so hard to get a consensus on good food in Charleston. In my opinion, Cru Cafe was very mediocre. Luckily, my expectations were not too high going in. I'm going to try to eat at the bar at Fig tonight (couldn't get a reservation). I'm excited as I suspect this restaurant is more in keeping with what a true foodie looks for in a restaurant. That means I have just Saturday night left. Where should I eat. I've made, cancelled, re-made reservations to Circa, Peninsula Grill, the Fat Hen. Ugh. I really don't think I want to go to any of them. This is what I want. GOOD, inventive, perhaps farm to table kind of cuisine. It does not have to be a fancy restaurant but money is most definitely not a factor. If you've been to Baltimore, Petit Louis and Woodberry Kitchen are our favorites.

Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore

YES! GO! I live in Baltimore and am currently visiting Charleston and wish like HELL that I could find a restaurant like Woodberry here.

Raleigh N.C.

Heron's is not open on Sunday nights. Perhaps it was not the regular chef at 18 Seaboard. Oh well, next time I'm in the area I will stick to the Chapel Hill/Durham spots that I know are good.

I'm afraid so. 18 Seaboard was just a waste of time, unfortunately!

Raleigh N.C.

Well...in a word, disappointing. I'm so pissed that I had one night in Raleigh (though limited by the fact that it was a Sunday) and I chose this restaurant. If you are a "foodie," you are NOT to like this restaurant. Food wise it was a bit of a flashback to the early 90's. I had the grilled asparagus, chopped salad which was over dressed, wilted, very cold(been sitting in a walk in) flooded by a chicken pasta that was so mediocre, my husband said we would have been better off at Macaroni Grill. He had the she crab soup, which was so bad, he didn't even eat it (and the waiter never asked why) followed by mediocre trout. We came back to the Umstead in Cary and ordered room service.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've reserved a table at 18 Seaboard and will hope for the best. I'm from Greensboro but have lived in Baltimore for the past 12 years. I'm so out of touch with the Triangle area now.

I need a restaurant to go to on Sunday night in Raleigh, N.C. that's fit for foodies! No barbeque, steaks or burgers. LOVE Rue Cler in Durham to give you an idea of what we like. Doesn't have to be French though. Ideas?

HELP!

Hi. I was all prepared to make a skirt steak tonight that has been marinating for 24 hours (per the recipe I'm using). It is a simple marinade of garlic, olive oil (1 T) and pepper. The skirt steak is in two pieces with a total weight of 1.65 pounds. I've been invited out tonight and am wondering if I can make this tomorrow night instead. Will it ove-rmarinate? Is it safe to eat assuming the meat is not expired on the package's label?
