Best and worst on the Outer Banks

I was searching for a crab cake recipe and came across this discussion, we've been visiting the OBX for the past 6 years and we love it!! We have 3 kids, 2 of them bring friends along so we do a lot of cooking in, but we do like to take them out for a nice dinner. Every year we pass The Sunset Grille (heading to Corolla) and say we have to go there this year, and everytime we go its packed! This year we tried a little later and got right in, we couldn't sit outside, it was closed to kids, inside was loud and I was not impressed with the food for the price! Big let down! I guess its better outside before the sun goes down! On the other hand, we did try to redeem ourselves by going out again, and I have to say Captain George's buffet was excellent!! I've never seen 5 kids eat sooooo much, definitely worth the money, and we were seated right away! We've tried Jimmy's Buffet in the past and it was very good too but the atmosphere at Captain George's was much nicer! The first year, driving down from PA, we giggled at the signs for Dirty Dicks so of course we had to go there! The night we went, the broilers and the steamers were not working! Fried food all around! Plus the gift shop was closed! So was not impressed there! Last year we tried Mike and Diana's in Timbuck II excellent! Sad to say our fav lunch spot closed, Donkey Hotay's is now Taco Stop! Tried The Bad Bean instead, it was ok. Capt'n Franks at mp 4.5 is now our #1!! Its the last place we go before headed home! We also like Corolla Pizza for late night munchies or The Tomato Patch! But, my all time favorite place is the Seaside Farm Market, they have "The" BEST peach pie I have EVER tasted!! I brought 10 home this year to share with everyone back home and they all agree win me! Its located right at the entrance of Timbuck II in Corolla, across from The Tomato Patch. Their fruits and veggies are delicious & very fresh, they also make salsas and dressings, you can even get milk & eggs there too! Best thing is you can sample the dressings & salsas before you buy anything. They sell it all from seafood to eggs very convenient! We absolutely love it down there and enjoy our time together as a family, reading the other comments will help us try new places when we return next year, which can NOT come soon enough! Thank you all for sharing your info!
