Jaybee's Bar-B-Q in Gardena
Seems a little far east to be in Gardena, but that's not the issue. I've tried several of the recs from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, in several states, and have been disappointed, to say the least. I have serious reservations about taking DD&D's hype.
South Orange County Sandwich Shop Search (Mission Viejo/RSM/FR)
Tutor and Spunky's is still worth the drive, and their new place even has tables. But, the marina is just down the road, where you can enjoy your sandwich with a view.
Golden Baked Hams, at the Alicia off-ramp from the 5, is also a great place, and probably closer to you.
Been to The Boiling Crab?
If this is Maryland or Cajun, it's the Asian version. On entering, the customer is immediately assaullted by "waitresses" who give the appearance of being more like bar girls than purveyors of food. The shrimp are overcooked.
Smoke House in Burbank
Basically Blah! Certainly doesn't live up to the hype.

Where can I find the world's best burrito?
If grease and cheese are valid criteria, I have just the place. I've been craving a Kosher Burrito which, as we know, is long gone. I managed to track down a facsimile, a Pastrami Burrito at Pharo's, at Garfield and Atlantic, in Alhambra. While it hardly qualifies as the "world's best", and it's not the smae as the original Kosher Burrito, it was darn good. I'll certainly go there again. As the owner said, pastrami and chili make a great combination.
Any Chow-worthy lunch places around Slauson/405?
Roll and Rye, in mall at Jefferson and Sepulveda. As of a month ago, they were still open.
Smoked Pork Butt
Almost any market has smoked ham hocks that will flavor your choucroute and add a gelatinous texture.
Lobster Thermidor
Do the hounds know of any place in the LA area serving Lobster Thermidor? Musso and Frank shows it on their menu. Are there any others.
Good cheap dog stand...
The place was finally calming down after the Times write up, but still crowded. The variety is OK, with about 7 different sausages, very tasty. The buns are about average. The slaw used to top the dogs is full of flavor and crunch; not loaded with mayo. Fries have some flavor, but have the texture and taste of frozen fries. Prices are based on sausage plus toppings, or as featured combinations; $4.99 and up. There appeared to be no alcohol in the refrigerators. Overall, the experience was good. The staff is friendly and attentive, with the owner and wife on the premises; very much a family run operation. Parking is limited to a small, awkward lot in back. There is only one restroom which seemed to be in constant use, mostly by staff. I'll certainly eat there again.
Thai Elvis at Palm's Thai - Recent thoughts?
Unless this "entertainer" has changed, he's awful. But, he has to have guts performing to a room of non-attentive diners.
What else at Phillipes is good besides the sandwiches?
Who says the sandwiches are good?
Roma d' Italia
Good red sauce italian. Some of the hounds aren't impressed by numbers, but not all of those customers can be wrong.
Best fish market
Oh, please...On its best day, Ralphs couldn't hope to compete with Fish King for anything, quality, service, or selection.
South St. CheeseSteak-input?
Basically dry and flavorless. Even the Cheezwiz has very little taste.
Need Update on Laguna Beach, CA - Cedar Creek Inn closed
I was never impressed by Cedar Creek, but really old timers will recall that the place actually was a lumber yard/hardware store at one time.
REVIEW: Granville Cafe, Burbank
Actually, there is another word to describe Granville: Wretched.
DON'T think PINK: Pink's (Hot Dog Stand) Revisited
Surely you jest! Tried Scooby's this week for the first time. I'd probably eat there again if I were standing in front of the place and suffered a sudden hunger pang, but that's about it. The hotdog was average, at best. The fries had an OK taste, but were limp enough to tie in a knot.
Big Papis?
Hey Hounds:
A friend recommended Big Papi's BBQ on Burbank Blvd in N. Hollywood. Any reports?
Place to eat near 134 / 5 Intersection?
Bag Acapulco. Go to Don Cuco on Riverside near Pass Ave and Hollywood Way. McCormick and Schmick is near by also. Porto's in Glendale is crowded by fun for a change. If you want really casual, with something you can taste, try Chicago Taste at Hollywood Way and Verdugo.
Best restaurants in Glendale?
Not if you're looking for flavor. The food here is bland and gives the impression it's been sitting around for a while under a heat lamp. By all means, avoid the BBQ pork
Giamela's Submarine Sandwiches on Magnolia
The one in Atwater is better, the bread fresher, and without the Force 2 gale that blows through the front door on Magnolia. However, Tony's, about three blocks west on Magnolia has them beat, hands down.
