Lawrence amanzing scrambled eggs recipe?!
Butter is usually the easiest way to get creamy scrambled eggs, that, and lots of stirring and removal of the heat before the curds get hard. It's all in the elbow work ;)

Wine Rack stores in Ontario, when will we get independent wine stores in Quebec?
It would be nice if there was a streetfront store that had all these interesting wines, though! Oh, and spirits too. Was just in the UK - the selection in a regular supermarket is pretty good, never mind the specialist stores.

So the law is they have to bottle it themselves? I was hoping there would be scope for a proper independent wine store that could sell what it wants (of course, it would still pay the alcohol tax to the SAQ, but would hopefully avoid having to source its products through them). Really, the alcohol laws here are so ridiculously restrictive compared to, say, Europe.

Was in Ottawa last week and noticed a store called The Wine Rack on Elgin street. Their website http://www.winerack.com indicates they have 160 stores in Ontario. I thought the LCBO had a monopoly on retail alcohol sales in Ontario? Wonder if there's any chance of independent wine stores in Quebec?

Artisanal Bacon in Montreal
I prefer back bacon to streaky. I've got used to the usual smoked streaky bacon over here but often have a hankering for unfatty unsmoked back bacon for a proper English breakfast.
Artisanal Bacon in Montreal
What I really want is UK-style bacon like they used to sell in Marks and Spencers before it closed. Or a good piece of uncooked ham so I can cook it myself. I do not want anything smoked!
Artisanal Bacon in Montreal
Exactly. Many butchers I asked could not get it into their heads that not all bacon is smoked and tried to just sell me pork. I said I wanted something similar to unsmoked ham in the state it's in before it's cooked, but still they persisted in trying to sell me pork.
What I want is cured pork that hasn't been cooked. Bacon in the UK comes in both smoked and unsmoked varieties, both uncooked. Same with ham, too.
Liberté butter and 35% cream
Yes, I have used that, and one from Creme d'Antans that's also 45%. In the UK 48% cream is called double cream and is used where whipping cream would be used here. I've also used it in Indian cuisine - Madhur Jaffrey's book calls for this in several recipes.
Also, it's just delicious on its own on fresh strawberries :)
Liberté butter and 35% cream
Their website said their 10% cream had nothing artificial, but no such statement was on the 35% page so I wonder. I guess the carageenan and locust bean gum could also be organic ;)
I wish they'd do a proper double cream too (48%). I'm from the UK originally and, over there, cream only has cream in it - none of the gums and crap that is habitually added over here.
Liberté butter and 35% cream
What are the ingredients in the cream? Does it have all the usual nasties like gums and so on or is it just cream?
If I say RUE VICTORIA (between Jean-talon and Ste-Catherine) in Montreal
The new Restaurant Park on Victoria just below Sherbrooke in Westmount is worth trying.
Artisanal Bacon in Montreal
Is there anywhere in Montreal where I can get unsmoked bacon? Marks and Spencer used to sell it ...

Interesting that the latest Gazette article was the restaurant grossed $2.3Million in the 1st five months since it's reopening - that more than pays for the renovation.
Healthy cottage cheese in Montreal?
Finally went to Metro - the brand is called Olympic and it's $4.09 for 250g.

Park on Victoria wonderful
I also went for lunch last week on the final day of the "soft opening". I had the Bento Box - it was good, but the "hot" items were lukewarm at best - a bit disappointing as the restaurant wasn't busy. Oddly, the sushi that was part of the Bento box didn't include any wasabi.
They also gave out a bowl of complimentary soup, which was good, but the ceramic spoons are dreadful. Way too thick and too wide, making it impossible to eat the soup without drooling it. My dining companion had the same problem. I mentioned it to the waitress.

Cocktails
I'm not much of a cocktail drinker, but have had a decent time at Bond Lounge on Fairmount / St Urbain.
Healthy cottage cheese in Montreal?
I'll take a look later today and find out the brand as well.
Healthy cottage cheese in Montreal?
I was in the Metro on Sherbrooke / Victoria yesterday. They had cottage cheese in the organic section that only had milk ingredients and bacterial cultures. Sadly, the name of the brand has escaped me, but definitely no gums or glycerides.
Restricted diet - something within 10-15mins walk of the OSM
Thanks for all the suggestions. Went to a Portuguese tapas place (who's name escapes me) on St Laurent near Milton. Worked out well as there were enough different things I could pick that were low fibre (bacalhau fritters, steak, octopus etc.) and the meal was light enough that it didn't sit too heavily during the concert. The molten chocolate dessert was delicious as was the Natas de Ceu.

Interesting take on the "split" from a UK newspaper (where they call the Laurier GR his "Flagship" Canadian Restaurant): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2102533/Kitchen-nightmare-Gordon-Ramsay-ditched-flagship-Canadian-restaurant-just-months.html
Restricted diet - something within 10-15mins walk of the OSM
F-Bar looks interesting! Anyone have any reviews? Of course, I've left this too late so there is no space, even at the bar, according to the reservation system.
Next time, though!
Restricted diet - something within 10-15mins walk of the OSM
That's a great idea ... only problem there's only tables at 4pm and 9:45pm :( But next time, for sure!
Restricted diet - something within 10-15mins walk of the OSM
Good idea - though I'd rather avoid having to ask for ingredients being skipped ... as I really want to eat them but am being good in sticking to the diet for now! Maybe something Italian (not pizza) also would work - but can't think of anything in the area. Booze and caffeine are also verboten for now, too. The hardest part of the diet is avoiding onions!

Restricted diet - something within 10-15mins walk of the OSM
Following a spate of ulcerative colitis, I'm on a restricted diet (basically zero fibre, so no greens, skins, seeds or wholegrains). No restrictions on meat/fish etc. Looking for something reasonable within 10-15 minutes walk of the OSM to have an early dinner before a concert at 8pm. Nothing too heavy or greasy.

where in montreal can i find goat's butter
I thought dairy cows in Canada were also raised without hormones etc., unlike in the US.
Rumors abound about the sale of Schwartz's
Don't forget all those "1%" guys have massive egos - just being able to say they own Schwartz is probably worth the $10M entry price for them, even if they don't do anything with it.
Cozy Café in Montreal
It is cozy, but good luck getting a seat once the "Parkers" with their MacBooks get ensconced. Good coffee of course, but I often wonder how some of these places make money when some people manage to make one coffee last an entire afternoon.
Myriade is definitely not cozy. SHMiT is somewhat cozy- with great coffee, but has the same "Parkers" problem too.

Indian restaurant with an open kitchen
If the kitchen *is* clean, then it's easier for the staff to handle the food properly. If the kitchen is dirty, then it becomes much more difficult. It's the storage areas in restaurant kitchens that are the really scary areas (at least, if you watch Kitchen Nightmares) where you often see cooked and uncooked foods in areas where they can cross-contaminate.
I always like it in Greece where the owners of a restaurant would habitually invite you into the kitchen. Restaurants with the chef's table in the kitchen are always welcome in my book.
