Brief Lockhart Smokehouse report

This reviewer (twinwillow) seems to have actually been to Lockhart. Perhaps I was there on an off day but I can't begin to comprehend the good to glowing reviews I've read compared to the tasteless reality that was my Sunday afternoon at Lockhart last week.

I had almost precisely the experience twinwillow had. The brisket was just passable (a 5 on a 10 scale) and the ribs were tough, no clear aroma and tasteless. They recommend "no sauce" -- which is possible with good BBQ. This wasn't good anything, and without sauce was plainly unappealing. They so "no forks needed use your hands" -- again, a "quaint", "down home" suggestion but some meat needs utensils and the white plastic forks bent. $5 for a lonestar in a jar and jalapeno sausage that I, personally, found inedible. Sorry to Lockhart but I upon leaving I felt disappointing and regretted spending the cash as it was a slightly more expensive place than most BBQ restaurants.

Best place to buy grills?

(2 years later) It always amazes me to see people, particularly in DFW still drying their food out on gas grills.
It's just one of those things like betamax -- it just takes some folks ages to figure out they're wasting their money; you're literally buying a food dehydrator when you buy a gas grill. They're awful -- but that's become the "norm".

Get a ceramic (Big Green Egg, Primo, Kamado Joe) and be done. The Firehouse in Allen is the best I've ever found -- you can see ALL three ceramic cookers there

Pho in Dallas?

If you're looking for PHO specifically in Plano, TX. Pho Mac is hands down the best Pho in Plano.
Very pure, clear, piping hot broth. Very friendly staff and a cool fish tank.

Pho in Dallas?

I really like Pho Mac in Plano at Parker Rd and Independence. Pho 95 is very good too.

As the original poster mentioned: Houston is a Mecca for excellent Pho. I lived in Houston's down town "little Vietnam" district and excellent Pho could be found on every corner.

I live in Dallas now and agree whole heartedly, Que Houng is not Pho. What Que Huong is serving is hot, painfully salty, powder-based grease water. They serve less and less broth/meat/shrimp/pork and increase the amount of cheap noodles. You end up with a bowl of cheap noodles and they end up with your $8.75. Avoid.
