Date - Upper East Side

Thanks - I was thinking Beyoglu. (And fair point re "quiet" - it is a relative term in NYC!)

Date - Upper East Side

As an additional piece of info, I'd think of Uva, but last time I was there (a few years ago) the food was lacking.

Date - Upper East Side

Hi All!

I'm looking for recommendations for a quaint, quiet, low key, but also nice, date spot on the UES. Preferably 60s-low 80. East of Park, if possible but will consider anything in the area. I don't know much about the area, but what I'm looking for is something akin to il Buco (downtown). Outdoor seating would be great. Cuisine - I'd like Mediterranean, light Italian, French, American - almost anything, frankly. Budget - flexible, no real restraints, other than this is a first date and I don't need 5 star $$$$ resto.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2 Weeks in Italy -- Milan -- Tuscany -- Lake Lugano

Where in Lucca did you end up? I'll be there for a week in June and would love some suggestions.

watching sixers/celtics game sat eve in Village?

Wogies is a fun place. However, there is a bar on W 3rd st just east of 6th Ave - I believe it is Fat Black Pussycat, that might interest you. I know it is a big Eagles bar during NFL season, so I can only assume that it will be a 6ers bar this weekend.

Good luck...

Hearth or Il Buco for private party?

I am a big fan of il Buco for ambience/decor, food and service.

The BEST private party I have ever done was at il Buco - we rented the private room (in the basement) which is a beautiful wine cellar (and inspired The Cask of Amontillado by Poe). The room is fantastic, the staff was accommodating and everyone had an amazing time. If you're willing to pay the price, this is an unforgettable place to have a private party.

Best Butcher in the City

I will also second, third, fourth Ottomanelli and sons on Bleecker. I went to them for years. They have excellent meat, great service, great prices, and exotic game. However, I must say that I have begun to buy my meat almost exclusively from Grazin' Angus at the Union Sq Greenmarket. They are fully grass-fed which provides for the tastiest and healthiest meat (let the debate begin, but take a taste of their meat!!)! This is 100% grass, no grain finished, pure, sustainable, excellent meat (and eggs and chicken to DIE for). Go talk to Chip and see what he recommends for the week. CONS: It is more expensive than other butchers (although not Citarella, which I think is overpriced and not excellent quality). Also, major con for me is that all meat is frozen. I have dealt with this because the quality is so high, and for a steak, it does not affect the taste (Chix are not frozen). Aside from that, it is what I live on these days!

Also, Whole Foods has excellent reasonably priced, and often organic, or even sustainable, free-range, meats, with a wide selection. I prefer the Union Sq WF (they have more local sources).
