Dog friendly in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Summerland??

For others who end up here seeking dog-friendly in SB, East Beach Grill and the outdoor bar terrace at Fess Parker's Doubletree are both dog-friendly, and I hear the Breakwater at the harbor is, as well.

In the upper State Street area, Cafe Stella is very welcoming to dogs on their outdoor patio. You can have dogs outside at Fresco at Fve Points, too.

Bouchon - Brunch or dinner?

Hope this isn't too late to be helpful.

I've been to both and far prefer dinner. Brunch is too loud and too crazy for my taste; when I was there last year large groups of hungover folks looking for more of the hair of the dog that bit them seemed to be prevalent in the clientele. Also, the menu is somewhat limited at brunch.

We went to dinner early-ish one evening and the service was terrific; the service at brunch is much more hurried and, dare I say, a bit cynical?

I've been to the Beverly Hills Bouchon as well and the dinner experience at the Las Vegas restaurant was much more akin to BH than was brunch. Thus, hands down dinner over brunch for me.

Any good restaurants downtown?

Stopping in to tell you we loved Cowboy Star - looked a bit unprepossessing from the outside but we had some of the best steaks we've ever tasted.

Also went to the brunch at the Westgate Hotel, which was also a big hit. A bit strange that there was no apparent signage in the lobby and no one around to direct us to the brunch location. Had to stand in line at the reception desk for guidance and once we were seated the hostess was a bit unrefined, announcing the brunch price before saying anything else, which seemed crass to me. However, the room was elegant and the food was wonderful.

Thanks for the good steers.

Any good restaurants downtown?

Headed to San Diego next weekend to buy a good meal for a Naval cadet stationed there. He appreciates good food, but we're staying downtown and we don't really want to drive.

I've been looking at the discussion here and the better restaurants seem to be in Rancho Santa Fe or at the Grand del Mar. Anything closer to downtown?

Looking for perhaps a French restaurant or steak place for Saturday night and a sumptuous brunch on Sunday.

Thanks!
