Firebird's Wood Fired Grill at the Monmouth Mall Eatontown, NJ

I have seen the poor reviews on this site, but we have eaten twice there this past month and like it.

First, the kids meals are excellent with some great choices different than the usual chix fingers or mac and cheese (which they have as well).

The bread is excellent and my wife LOVED her salad, she keeps talking about great it was.

I have had the chicken sandwich and the chili-rubbed delmonico, I thought both were very good.

We might even go back to there tonight depending on how long my kids allergy appointment lasts.

Copper Canyon: Is it still good?

I recently ate at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill at the Monmouth Mall.

They have a chili rubbed delmonico that reminds me of the steak at Copper Canyon. The quality of the steak I had was not as good as the one at CC, but it was still good. It also came with a southwestern potatoe gratin which was outstanding

Don Giovanni ~ South Amboy

Just went there last Saturday, we had a ceasar salad, garlic knots and a grandma pie. All were excellent.

My girls also shared a Mac & Cheese. I thought it was gross, a homemade version of kraft with a thin watery cheese sauce, but they couldn't eat it fast enough.

New pizza place next to Shoprite ~ Marlboro

I did order pizza from them once when we had a bunch of my daughters friends over. I thought the pizza was horrible. It reminded my of the crappy $1 pizza all around NYC these days.

Golden Corral coming soon in Freehold

Yes, that is my one and only GC experience.

I called it gross because the food I viewed on the buffet seemed very low quality.

I have not seen or heard anything since that would change my mind.

Apologies to any GC enthusiasts.

Golden Corral coming soon in Freehold

A few years ago on vaction, we had a golden corral near the resort we stayed at. My daughters asked me about it and I told them that before they were born, when mommy and daddy didn't have much money, we walked into there to eat and walked right out because it is gross.

They now refer to the restaurant as "Stinky Corral" everytime they see a commerical or the restaurant.

Just thought I would share that with everybody.

Monmouth County Casual Italian suggestions...??

We have been enjoying Nonna's on Rt 9 in Marlboro lately. I think the food is good and prices reasonable.

Had a great Chicken Parm couple of weeks ago.

Good place for Chanukah meal with family

We live in Marlboro, NJ and are trying to find a nice place to go out with our friends to celebrate Chanukah on Sat. Night. We are just getting back from a trip and they have work going on at their house, so neither of us can hose the other.

Where would anybody recommend? I know about Jerry and Harvey's but it is not a nice looking restaurant. I would like a nice place.

Thanks - Joe

New Mexican restaurant coming to Marlboro

Contrived is an understatement. Did her papa also make popcorn shrimp and nachos?

Brioso Marlboro- USED to be good....

We went there around 10 years ago when my children were under 1 yr. We came in with the children in their "carrier".

The look we got from the staff when the saw the children was offensive. The restaurant was mostly empty and they insisted on sitting us in the dining room by the door, rather than the main larger room. They also insisted on putting our children under the table, rather than on an upturned chair.

We walked right out and have never been back. I would never give a $ to restaurant that would treat me that way. At the time, we thought it was too bad as we had liked the food.

NJ Diner Sausage - I give up!!

Occassionally I buy a breakfast sausage from Premio called Grande.

They are the big links like diners serve. They are pretty good. I get them at the Shoprite on Union Hill Rd. & Rt 9.

Katz's Deli vs. Carnegie Deli

I highly recommend the Edison Cafe in the Edison Hotel. Also know as the "Polish Tea Room". It is on 47th st between broadway and 8th. If you are looking for old new york jewish style food, you can't go wrong. They have amazing matzo ball and borsch soups, great deli sandwiches (I think their pastrami is better than carnigie), blintzes, fish salads, corn beef hash, etc. Just try to order their "homemade" stuff.

Mark Joseph Pizza ~ Manalapan

I have been to this place about 3 times.

The first time I went, I loved it. I had the shrimp and grits app and a sloppy Italian joe sandwich.

We went back a few weeks later, I had the same thing, but the shrimp and grits just didn't taste fresh, like they were sitting around a while.

Went back again a couple of weeks ago, had Asian wings and the pork chop over polenta special. The wings were great, but the pork chop was dry and the polenta did not taste fresh. I also noted that they changed the menu, raised the prices and took off the sandwiches.

First the prices are a bit high. $11 for wings is pricey. $24 for a single boneless chop over polenta is also pricey. I expected a nice think bone in chop, I would have never ordered it if I knew it came with a boneless chop.

We have decided that we were not going back for a while anyway. it is WAY too pricey for a dining room off a pizzeria.

ALSO... The pizza is horrible and pricey.

That's Amore in Marlboro, NJ

I just have to report that for some reason my review was filtered on Yelp and removed. Not sure why, I dont see what could be the problem.

There were two other posters who also complained about the same dinner. They also filtered one of them.

When I took a look at the filtered reviews, almost all of them are 1 or 2 star and negative. It makes me very suspect of Yelp.

That's Amore in Marlboro, NJ

No, she was never there, she just wanted to go. I knew from friends and reviews the place was just ok at best.

I don't mind paying a little more, but $16.99 to $42.99, is just criminal.

2 people other than myself posted on Yelp 1 star reviews from yesterday. They went from 4 stars average to 2.5 stars. They are reaping what they sow.

That's Amore in Marlboro, NJ

I just wanted to post this review that I put on Yelp about That's Amore. My wife and her sister wanted to go to Mark Joseph's, but my MIL said no. She wanted That's Amore. This is not Amore, it is a crime.

I went to That's Amore for the first time this past Mother's Day. I was shocked when I opened the menu and saw the prices of $42 - $65 for the entrees. Chicken Parm & Francess was $42. Everything else was $50+.

Additionally, the entree came with potato & Veg and they couldn't sub pasta with the chicken dishes as the waiter said they were too busy and just preparing as per the menu. The entrees came with App, salad, dessert and coffee.

The apps were tiny. The shrimp cocktail has 2 shrimp, the stuffed mushrooms came with 2 mushrooms, etc. They were also served on bread plates which made them look even smaller. I had lobster bisque, it was ok, a bit too thick.

The salad was sitting a pool of brown water. It was supposed to balsamic. I think they put soaking wet greens in a bowl and pour dressing over it and it all just ended up at the bottom of the bowl. Really disgusting.

The entrees were decent sized portions. Everyone said they liked their entree. I ordered a blackened rib eye with rock shrimp aribiata. The shrimp were not rock shrimp (one of my favorites that I always get when in Florida) .What other foods are misrepresented on the menu? Worse they were prepared franchese style with red pepper flakes. Aribiata is spicy TOMATO sauce. The rib eye was over done and I sent it back. They proceeded to bring me raw steak after raw steak. The cook must not have any idea of what he is doing, as the steak felt like jelly before I cut it, a sure sign of rawness. I eventually just asked for a chicken Francess, which was ok. Just standard.

The two cakes for dessert were good, cheesecake and chocolate mouse. The canolli was so small, it was half the size of a mini canoli.

The kids were 14.99 each. Just an entree. They wouldn't give them ice cream for desert, only the cakes that they can't have due to food allergy issues. They told us that they would charge us extra for ice cream.

The worse part...... I looked at their regular menu on the way out and the regular price was $16.99 for Chix Parm WITH PASTA.

We paid $414 for 5 adults and 4 kids.

Pizza & Prices in NJ

I remember when I attended Elementary School back in Queens during the 70's that you could go across the street (imagine letting kids out today from school to go across the street) and get 2 slices and a soda for 75cents.

Pizza & Prices in NJ

I wish I would have read that before I ordered the 2 pizzas last night. I would have gotten meatballs on 1 of them instead of sausage.

I like the 2 pizza deal because I get toppings on pizza and my family only likes plain.

Marlboroman,

I bet that was Angelotti's. Anyway Dusal's on Union Hill Rd has a special on Wenesday 2 pies/$15. With a topping on one of them, it comes out to $19 & change. Not bad pizza, not great.

My favorite burgers in New Jersey are served at...

Just went to the Cheeburger in Manalapan this past Friday night. What a mess that place is. The burger is just horrible, one of the worst I ever had. My daughter complained that hers was dry and like a hockey puck.

When I complained to the waiter, he just looked at me and told me the kitchen was backed up, the manager came over, managed to replace my burnt burger with a medium well one in about 10 seconds (where did it come from?). But would not replace my daughters as she said it is policy to serve kids burgers well done.

My new policy..... never go to Cheeburger again. Their ONLY redeeming quality is their Shakes.

Shrimp and grits

I think Chef MD is the chef at Mark Joseph's. But based upon your previous comment, I thought he might be from Drew's (not familiar with this restuarant).

Shrimp and grits

I had the NOLA shrimp appetizer at Joseph Mark's grilled pizza in Manalpan on Rt 9.

I thought it was excellent. Grits were very cheesy and smooth and they gave 4 or 5 nice size shrimp. The sauce was only a bit spicey, but had a great tang.

I think it was 12.99 and it was a nice portion. I also had a sloppy joe sandwich that was made up of chopped up meatballs and sausages - very good. I liked the place.

lunch in camden new jersey aquarium area

When we used to go the aquarium I found the best way to eat lunch was to pack some good sandwichs & fruit. We used to sit at the tables outside on the terrace facing philadelphia. I think we purchased french fries to supplement the sandwiches.

French Fries!!!!!

I dont think I have ever seen french fries served at the Costco food counter.

I would recommend Dave's Fries at English Town Auction, they are excellent.

As for frozen fries, I think Nathans are the best. They sell 8 lbs of the them in a box at Costco for $7. Great Deal.

I know this is not in Jersey, but I had some excellent fries at Capital Grill in Rockerfeller Center. Boardwalk style with parmesian and truffle salt.

Now that I think about it, I might just have to have lunch there this week.

Villabate Gourmet Manalapan?

I ordered a mix of food from there once and I was not too impressed. We gave it another try and had the Nonna(grandma) pizza.

The Nonna pizza is excellent, I would recommend it, but not sure about anything else there, as that is all we order from there.

For plain pizza, I hit Dursal's on Wenesday or Sunday when they have the 2 pies for $15 special - plus it is closer to my house.
