Chubby's Profile

Staying at Westin St. Francis, where should I go?

You can take a walk over to Canteen and get a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner at the counter or one of the few small tables.

Best Mooncakes?

The Golden Gate Bakery is a good bet (but last year I waited for an hour in line - see Sept 10th for pix)

North Beach Eats

Bocadillos, L'Osteria del Forno

What are the best north bay restaurants for upscale casual $$??

Marche aux Fleurs in Ross has good bang for buck

Pho in Marin

Has anyone tried the Pho place on 4th Street across from Cain's tires? It's on my list, but I haven't made it in yet.

80 year old and 12 year old--where do I take them?

Tadich is old school SF. Don't expect brilliant food, but it fits your specs as long as you get a booth or table.

Chocolate Bouchon Dessert special at Bouchon, Yountville

You can also play the home version if you go to Bouchon Bakery next door and pick up some Bouchon for the road,

Northbay Breakfast

Bubba's in San Anselmo

Sol Food in San Rafael

As of Saturday - Not Ici yet

Yeah, I tried to go on Thursday and was denied.
I left a message on their phone machine (which had an outdated message that they would open "the beginning of August" but to be fair, they didn't say what year)

Best fish restaurants in SF?

Bar Crudo has crudo, chowder and mussels.

Bakesale Betty- pecan shortbread

Their Banana bread ($1.50 slice) gets tops marks.

offal and game meats in sf

Incanto has an annual offal dinner, but during the rest of the year, they feature offal entrees and dinners by arrangement.

La Boulange in Mill Valley opening this week

All the tables and umbrellas are deceptively set out, but they are still closed. The sign says that they will probably open tomorrow but we'll see.

recs for best nuevo latino in the mission?

Limon

Planning 3-day trip to Laundry, need help with specifics...

Bouchon and Bistro Jeanty in Yountville.
BUT I wouldn't go out for more than a mini meal on your FL day. You really want to have lots of room...maybe a coffee and pastry from Bouchon Bakery in the late morning.

Best-value, upscale tasting menu

Aziza's tasting menu would fit your budget. It's not a fancy place like the Ritz, but if you want to order a glass of wine with dinner, you can make compatable with your wallet.

La Boulange in Mill Valley opening this week

I agree, but the last one that I got was rawer than raw inside, not moist and eggy, but battery. Have you noticed a difference lately or was that a fluke?

La Boulange in Mill Valley opening this week

New opening date is Tuesday Aug 22nd (pending final inspection)

box lunch napa

Bouchon Bakery has a ready made bag lunch. I think it's $14ish.

picnic lunch buying

How about BiRite Market?

In SF with Mom -- one night open

If you get a drink at the bar at Postrio, she can take the sweeping staircase down to the restrooms to check out the lighting, etc. Then you can go to Bar Crudo for dinner.

tenderloin bars with food

I went once back in June (shortly after they opened) and I liked the crudo but wasn't wild about the chicken wing confit...

http://www.bunrab.com/dailyfeed/June2006/dailyfeed_june-06_p1.html

tenderloin bars with food

Brick has chow and drinks

La Boulange in Mill Valley opening this week

Don't go today. The doors are closed, the chairs are stacked and that sign that was up last week (saying they will open on the 17th) is down. No new sign.

Tha Siam in Larkspur Landing (Marin) - very good lunch

Their Kao Na Ped (duck breast) is pretty good. I like their brown rice too.

Breakfast/ Brunch Spots

Dottie's is good if you avoid weekends or eat alone at the bar

La Boulange in Mill Valley opening this week

In addition to pastries, they will be serving tartines along with organic coffee

Incanto, Delfina, Michael Mina, Fleur de Lys or...?

I prefer Incanto and Delfina to MM and FdL.
They are more casual with food that is less arranged.
