Did Your Mom Repeatedly Cook a Dish You Despised? My mom is a lovely cook and baker. However, she made this god-awful smoked turkey salad wrap with huge, wet chunks of smoked turkey, dried fruits (like cranberries, raisins, and prunes), and celery, and so much mayonnaise it would ooze out of the flavorless tortilla it was served in. I have nightmares about this dish. |

Chinese: where can I find these dishes? i agree with pravit about limited seating spaces in nyc dumpling houses. however, i would definitely try venessa's dumpling house or prosperity dumpling house in chinatown. so so cheap and delicious. when you're there, be sure to also order a sesame pancake--it's unlike any other sesame pancake you've had, it's more like a warm sandwich in crusty sesame pizza bread filled with veggies, duck, pork...it's impossible to describe, just get one! |

Cobble Hill favorites...so far! damasus is one of my favorite places in the city! i love their hummus, and the 1 dollar bags of fresh, homemade pita triangles cant be beaten anywhere. and don't forget about their 4-dollar falafel sandwich! plus, the guys who work there are so nice. ----- |

I would try "Two for the Pot," at Atlantic and Clinton Aves in Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights. I think it's mostly loose leaf teas and spices, but there's an ornery old man who works there that always has excellent advice. Some of the best peppermint tea I've consumed came from there. ----- |

I live at Starr Street and St. Nicholas (immediately off the Jefferson L stop), and find myself either eating Mexican from Tortilleria Los Hermanos or Chinese from New Sze's Garden every other night. Does anyone have suggestions for delicious, filling, and fairly healthy, fairly cheap eats? I need some variety! |
