Dinner TONIGHT between Belmont and Northampton
We'll be driving back from a They Might Be Giants kid show in Northampton around dinnertime. Is there any place in particular you would recommend to stop along the Route 2 or Mass Pike corridor that can accommodate three grownups and an almost four-year-old?
Persimmons: best place to buy/order a case
Wow! I never thought of doing that. It sounds yummy! Thanks!
Persimmons: best place to buy/order a case
Has anyone seen cases of persimmons around anywhere, either locally or to order online? Any variety is fine. My husband and son can't get enough of them right now!
Mr. Bartley's Burgers, Cambridge
I would guess that even if there were such laws, places like Bartley's would be grandfathered out of complying.
Are Alphonso mangoes still available?
We headed over today, and Patel's still had about a dozen boxes. We brought one home, and one of the mangoes was perfectly yellow and ready for eating. The rest are green in various stages of yellowing.
WOW! So good--a hint of rose flavor and so juicy. Thanks for the recommendation. I wish I had bought more than one box.
Gluten-Free brunch--is it possible?
We have a friend in town this weekend who has celiac disease. We were going to meet them for brunch, but I'm not sure where we should go. Brunch for me is all about the carbs! Any suggestions welcome. Cambridge would be best. Thanks!
Upper West Side on Boxing Day
Kosher isn't necessary--my father-in-law is willing to eat fish/vegetarian in a non-Kosher place. We're hoping for something not too expensive since it's a large group and he's paying. None of us care as much about decor as we do about the food!
Upper West Side on Boxing Day
I'm a former New Yorker, and we're coming down to the city for a couple of days after Christmas/during Hannukah. We'll be staying by the Museum of Natural History with someone who won't take a cab or transit during Shabbat, so we'd like to find someplace walking distance. We're open to any cuisine, but would need some vegetarian options, and will have a large group--probably about ten people. I'm flummoxed. My knowledge of that neighborhood is sparse, at best. Any help?
Lunching with a Vegan in Harvard Square
Best options? I like Z-Square, but I've been there a lot. And obviously Bartley's isn't going to do it. Eliminate the chains from your answer. Ready, set, Chowhounders go!
Osaka (Belmont) don't repeat my mistake
I was so disappointed in Osaka, especially since it's right around the corner. Too bad that it's so terrible. The one good multi-Asian place I know of is a wacky Korean/Chinese/Sushi place between a sandwich shop and a Dunkin' Donuts (you have to enter through one or the other of those) on Cambridge St. in Boston. Excellent ba bim bop, and pretty great sushi as well.
Know anything about Kickass Cupcakes, Somerville?
Made a special trip with a fellow cupcake-lover today. Totally disappointed that it's only a walk-up counter with no seating. It might have been more pleasant if I could have bought a cupcake, walked outside, and eaten it on a bench, but in the rain it was annoying. Slogged home with my box on the T, and by the time I arrived home, only one cupcake was relatively "intact"--the double chocolate, which has a pretty dense frosting. All the others were drippy and smooshed by the fancy-pants, individual cupcake "holes" box. The box and the price both seem designed for bigger cupcakes. Overall, a subpar outing and so far the flavors and texture are underwhelming as well.
best cheap lunch by Beacon Hill?
I'm new to the scene and just got a job on the hill behind the State House. Where are your favorite lunch spots between Charles/MGH and Fanueil Hall?
