What is meant by New York pizza....and does it exist in Chicago as I recall it?

Add Jimmy's. Just tried them. The pizza is very very close to true NY pizza and the garlic knots are good. Try em!

NY Pizza

+1 for Jimmy's. Great NY pizza. Garlic knots are pretty good. Give them business. Jimmy seems like a nice guy.

Top 3 for non cracker crust/somewhat NY Style:
Pizzaco's on Ashland
Gigio's on Broadway
Ian's on Clark
Now where to find garlic knots? Hmmm?

Chicago deep-dish pizza

I didnt want to thread cap yet I grew up in NY and I know what NY pizza is (I go back every summer and all I eat is NY cheese pizza slices, garlic knots, and REAL bagels). I also have spent years in Chicago trying to find NY Pizza. I have tried nearly all of the the places in the thread you list, and some are cracker crust while others get close yet drop the ball in flavor or consistency. The absolute closest place ever to NY Pizza went out of business years ago. It was a Lincoln Square place called Godfathers with HUGE (maybe 24"?) pizzas. The closest pizza places I have found for true NY pizza are Gigios on Broadway and Pizzaco's on Ashland. And for the record almost every time when Chicagoans say "If you like NY Pizza, you have to try <insert restaurant here>", the pizza is cracker crust crap; I even hear it from people that _swear_ they know what NY pizza is. Trust me. I know the difference. I live on the north side and I have tried probably every pizza place in a 5 mile radius as well as many many others. I can attest that someone recently said "If you like NY Pizza you MUST try Pete's". Pete's is cracker crust. It's not me - it's the locals! That said I may have to give Luigi's another try..
Anyway for the OP, maybe try Pequod's! Again. have a great trip.

Best Chocolate Eclair

Let me be specific. I have had the chocolate and the plain. I have had better chocolate croissants elsewhere and the plain croissant cold is good, yet warmed up in my oven, the plain croissant is amazing. Either way, I would stop by to try the eclairs and grab a croissant if they have any. Many times by about 11 on the weekends all they have left are meat and cheese filled ones, which I have yet to try.

Chicago deep-dish pizza

I went to Uno once when I first moved to Chicago. Pizza was pretty good yet not worth the wait. NY and Chicago pizza should never even be compared in my opinion. "Thin crust/NY Style" in Chicago is (with few exceptions) a truly thin cracker crust which is absolutely disgusting in my opinion. The pizza sauces in Chicago also generally taste like Prego spaghetti sauce. True NY pizza is unique and delicious. I'd take a NY slice over any Chicago pizza. That said, I really enjoy Lou Malnatti's and especially Pequod's. If you get a chance, check out Pequod's deep dish pizza:

Have a wonderful visit.

Best cupcakes in town?

For anyone researching, my girlfriend and I really enjoy Sweet Mandy B's. I generally didn't like Molly's (did not come close to meeting the hype). I didn't like the cupcake gallery. I liked Sugar Bliss ok, yet Sweet Mandy B's has always been our goto place for cupcakes. Some of their specialty cupcakes aren't great sometimes, yet we always enjoy their regular yellow and chocolate vanilla and chocolate buttercream cupcakes.

Best Chocolate Eclair

I'm under the impression that the same person that makes the delicious croissants (I agree - they are the best I have ever had) makes the eclairs. I saw mini eclairs late last week...

Best Chocolate Eclair

I'm not thrilled about recommending this place because of poor service, yet if you can get the fresh eclairs at Beans and Bagels on Rockwell and Leland, they are made from scratch on-site I believe. I think they're delicious, yet I will try the recommendations here also. Thanks.

best crab cake baltimore

I visited Koco's during hurricane Irene. The crab cakes are huge with no filler and the wait staff are great. I must say that I still prefer Faidley's over Coco's for overall flavor - they taste like the ones my Mom used to make, yet I'd go to Coco's again just to be able to sit down and enjoy the crabcakes. I don't like standing while I eat.

Old Bay Steamed Crabs

We went to Nicks during hurricane Irene and the crabs may have been re-heated. My Dad only ordered 6 so it's possible that anything under a dozen doesnt get the full attention of the staff. The meat wasnt juicy yet more slimy and squishy on some crabs and others were dry - the claw meat was hard to remove. My experience has always been that with freshly steamed medium crabs or larger, the meat is really easy to get at and it has a soft, moist consistency. I'm going to push for Bill's next time we're in town. Thanks for all the input!

Old Bay Steamed Crabs

Thanks for the info. My Dad's now interested in Nick's fish house... Yelp reviews say crabs are great yet the service may suck. I'll keep the Canton Dockside in mind as reviews are quality, yet does anyone have any experience with Nick's? Thanks!

Old Bay Steamed Crabs

I did a search and there's alot of opinions about the best steamed crabs restaurants in Baltimore. I went to some place last year that was good, yet the place used some custom seasoning for its steamed crabs. I grew up in Baltimore eating bushels of various fresh, Old Bay steamed crabs on various picnic tables around Maryland, yet have no idea where we got them...
Can someone please tell me the best place in and around Baltimore to sit down and eat the Old Bay steamed crabs of my childhood? Just to be clear we want to eat at the restaurant - not take a bushel or 10 to go.
Thanks for any assistance!
