I couldn't agree with you more Dawn. I hadn't been there in years, but a few weeks ago I was out that way at the range and couldn't wait to stop at The Pit for lunch. What a disappointment.
We were the only people eating there which is usually a bad sign, granted it was a weekday, but it was between 12:00pm - 1:00pm. The pulled pork sandwich was dry, didn't taste like smoke, and was pretty small. If I remember correctly they used to have fried biscuits that were awesome, but I didn't see them offered any more. Also I don't remember having a waitress, especially one that could barely speak English.
I won't be back, the Cubans can keep that place because it's NOT real BBQ!

Thanks everyone. We ended up going to Vernona and really enjoyed it. Started out with some nice Grey Goose dirty martinis at the bar watching the sunset, then proceeded to the restaurant which was elegantly decorated. We were looking forward to trying the tasting menu, but it wasn't offered that night (probably because it was Tuesday). The menu is kind of small, but everything we ordered was excellent. Our only gripe was the portions were small compared to the prices (2 profiteroles for $12?). Service was very good as well.

We're heading to Sarasota next week for our anniversary and looking for some place special for dinner. We are staying at The Ritz and wondering if the hotel's fine dining restaurant Vernona is any good and also considering Cafe L'Europe. Can anyone give me their opinion on either of these or recommend someplace else maybe?
