Ideas for two teenagers?

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I really like the idea of Malatesta, and also the Chelsea Market idea. I wanted to take him to the High Line anyway. I'll ask him what he thinks of both options and then we'll decide. (Also to one of the posters, I'm a girl, haha.) I'm also really excited to try out Zabb Elee, too, but with someone more adventurous!

The Impenetrable Egyptian Melon Seed

I realize this thread is old, but these are one of my favorite snacks and I think everyone should know how to eat them, haha.

We have them in Iran, too - they're called tokhmeh. The ones my mom buys are salted and roasted, and what you do is roast them more until they have a nutty smell. Then, you have to crack the shell with your teeth (I use the molars but it's still pretty bad for your teeth.) It's a bit tricky to learn but once you've mastered it, it's easy. I guess you could eat the shell like with sunflower seeds but I don't know anyone who does. Probably yours were roasted too much or something, but they're definitely not soft. Hopefully this was helpful!

Honestly, I don't even like pad thai that much, haha. Zabb Elee sounds FANTASTIC. I'd love to try it but I think it could be a bit adventurous for him. Any suggestions for Italian? Much less exciting but probably more his style.

Small, like, around $20 maximum? I expect us to be in the Chelsea area but we can travel, just not out of borough. I like Thai best but I also love Korean, Malaysian, Japanese, basically anything. I like Middle Eastern too (I'm Persian) but I think that's a little exotic for him. I'm a lot more sophisticated food-wise than he is so I want something that we can both enjoy.

Hi everyone! A friend and I are going to Manhattan next Sunday and we're looking for dinner options. We're both 17, so the budget's kind of small. He's a fan of Italian and I like Asian, but I'll eat anything and he doesn't mind spicy food either. Any ideas, preferably downtown?
