Local suggestions for Barcelona

We did the Aborigens food tour - long story! We did the night food tour, it was amazing. Francesc Castro was our guide and his knowledge and love of Catalan food/culture shone through. We didn't stop talking food, eating and drinking all night, long past the end time given on the website. The variety of food and places ( tapas bars, both old and new Bodegas) we visited, recommendations were outstanding. One place we got to was just closing but opened back up to let us in! Nothing was too much trouble and the after care was second to none. The next day an email arrived with further recommendations of places to eat and buy local produce. Also recommendations of places to eat for the next places we were visiting. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour and use Aborigins again if I went to Barcelona again.

Cadaques and Begur, Catalonia

Hi, after a few days in Barcelona we are spending a few days in Cadaques and Begur. I would love some suggestions of where to eat in either of these places and the surrounding area. Also if there is a place we shouldn't miss as we travel from Barcelona to these areas. Thank you for your help with this.

Local suggestions for Barcelona

Hi, we are in Barcelona for just 3 days in September and looking for suggestions for places to eat that are mainly frequented by locals rather than tourists. We have a moderate budget and and will splurge for the right place! Realise there are different types of food and places to eat but would love a real local experience - did read about the Aborigens food tour but not sure if we can afford that this time. Thank you so much for your help with this.

Conical Burr Grinder - Available in the UK

Hi I am looking to buy a coffee grinder as a present but when I started to do some research I found that the Capresso Infinity 560 (which had some good reviews) is not available in the UK. So I am looking for a grinder that I can get in the UK. The other recommendation was the KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Grinder but as the grinder was only part of the pressie I wasn't really looking to spend that amount of money. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks

Wedding in June in Venice

Ok, I realise that this is a very very late report..................but do have the excuse of having moved twice since we've been married! I have just thought about it again as have just booked to go back to Venice for our second anniversary. We ended up choosing Ristorante Riviera on Zattere and had an amazing time despite the view! (Trawlers all lined up protesting about diesel prices - but it certainly added to the atmosphere!) We are so looking forward to eat there again.
Not only was the food amazing but so was everybody who was there. Am so sorry not to taik about everybody by name but had other things on my mind at the time! They opened up especially for us Wed lunchtime as they are normally closed. We went to see them Tues to check all was ok and got invited back over lunchtime where they fed us (without charge) and we discussed the menu for the wedding day. The husband runs the restaurant and it's his wife who is the Chef. They looked after us so well and made our day so memorable and the food was fanatastic.
I would urge anybody who is going to Venice to eat there...........I promise to be more specific about the food after my next visit. The fish was the best I've ever tasted, so delicately flavoured and cooked to perfection. I even tried an loved the different carpaccio di pesce served as part of the antipasti which I couldn't bring myself to eat in Japan.

ROOT GINGER SUBSTITUTE?

I am looking for an alternative to using root ginger in recipes as it makes me physically sick (realise weird as it is used to stop nausea!) Want to try thai/chinese/indian recipes but so many contain root ginger and wonder what I can use instead which will give me the same flavour. I am ok with powdered gingered but this seems mainly to be used in sweet recipes and I know tastes different and is from a different part of the plant (I think). Thanks

HELP!! SHORT NOTICE!!

I realise this is really short notice but hopefully going to the Greek Island of Kefalonia in a week's time. I'm really looking for great places to eat where the locals go rather than tourists. Also it will be our first wedding anniversary when we are out there so hoping you can come up with an amazing place like you did for our wedding breakfast in Venice on our wedding day. Thank you x

Wedding in June in Venice

Thank you for all the recent posts. Had decided on Ristorante Riviera on the Zattere. But feel now I'm going to have to check out Harry's Dolci as it is recommended by the last post who lives in Venice.......
I will try out some of the other recommendations during my visit but still having trouble narrowing down that list too!!

Wedding in June in Venice

Thanks so far for everybody's replies and reports. From checking the Venice boards in the past I had come up with these restaurants, but just for their food:

Alle Testiere
Osteria de Santa Marina
Vini da Gigio
Fiashetteria Toscana

and then the two with the Michelin stars:

Da Fiore
The Met

But some of their interiors weren't quite as I had in mind. I will go on line and find photos of everybodys suggestions so far, (thanks for the web address of Agli Alboretti).

I would still be interested to hear from anybody who has eaten at The Met.

Sorry, forgot that the term 'wedding breakfast' is a typically English expression, which is referring to the meal after the wedding ceremony. So will be looking for somewhere at lunchtime. x

Wedding in June in Venice

I've been using Chowhound for a while, but never before posted a board, so please bear with me!
I'm getting married in Venice in June (just the two of us) and am looking for the perfect place to have our wedding breakfast. I already have a list of places that I'd love to try while I'm there but none of them seem perfect for the wedding breakfast - I want ambience as well as amazing food. Normally the food is the main concern and I'm not so worried about the surroundings, but this time 'I want it all'!
So here's hoping you'll be able to solve this problem for me.
Thanks for all your help x
