Milan Restaurant Help Please!

Yes, it was the one by the Duomo. Our group of four were disappointed in the veal.....like I said it was very dry.
It was recommended to us by someone who travels to Milan a lot....maybe it was an off night.

Milan Restaurant Help Please!

First of all, I love your name.....have a daughter and daughter in law named Amy!
As to the food....we loved Nerino Dieci. The owner Sandro is in the restaurant and helped us order....he is very friendly and a great host. We loved the mussels and pasta with lobster.....and the trio of tiramisu was wonderful. I can highly recommend this restaurant.
Trattoria Milanese was ok, not great. Our group of four ordered the veal Milanese which was very dry and disappointing. The risotto and pasta with mushrooms were a hit. The waiter insisted on bringing us dessert which was a large fruit plate which while pretty good was uninspired and 27 euros for our group of four.....we felt like we were taken advantage of. So I would not recommend this one.

Have fun!

So Sorry....another question about Sunday dinner in Paris

I am the OP.
Kigawa does sound wonderful, but I was concerned it was similar cuisine to Sola.....french cuisine with a Japanese touch.

So Sorry....another question about Sunday dinner in Paris

We will be in Paris next month for four nights. We are arriving from Milan on Sunday morning and have figured out all of our restaurants except Sunday dinner.

We have always looked to the France Chowhounds for restaurant advice on our annual trips to Paris. You have helped us discover many great restaurants we never would have know about without your discussions and advice.

This year we are going with our sister and brother in law who have looked to us for restaurant recommendations. We are going to a few of our favorites from past trips.
Monday
Le Comptoir
Tuesday
Sola
Wednesday
Josephine Dumonet

We are only missing Sunday dinner. I have gone through many of the posts about Sunday dinner suggestions and have a short list. I would appreciate advice about which restaurant might be somewhat different in cuisine than the ones we have already reserved.

These are recommendations I have found on the France Board.

Christophe (reservations only one day in advance)
Le Kigawa (reservations 2 weeks in advance)
De Bressane
La Semilla

Thanks in advance for any help.

Any help or advice would be appreciated;

Milan Restaurant Help Please!

A friend who has been visiting Milan for many years has given me some restaurant recommendations. After I did some research, there is very little about any of these restaurants on this board.

I would like to try at least one of his suggestions during our three day visit. He is a dear friend and I don't want to insult him.

A Santa Lucia
Trattoria Milanese
Boeucc
Ristorante Peppino
Ristorante Bagutta

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Getting a Table at Ellen's Stardust Diner

I took my 10 year old granddaughter there for lunch this summer. While she did enjoy the singing, the food was awful and the place was so dirty. I would pass.

Strand Bistro and Chef Kelvin Fernandez A Class Act

We took our granddaughter who has life threatening food allergies for a special 10th birthday dinner. Chef Kelvin Fernandez made a special homemade pasta with tomato instead of eggs just for her for the occasion. We all tasted the special pasta and it was amazing. He also made some french fries in a separate fryer and the look of happiness on her face was of sheer delight. She normally does not eat out, but with Chef Kelvin's reassurance and extra care (he has a severe shell fish allergy himself), she had a memorable 10th birthday dinner. It is a night we will never forget.

New Chef at Maceo....Any Reviews?

We have a reservation at Maceo for next Saturday night. I just read in Bonjour Paris that they have a new chef....Maitre Park from Korea. I made the reservation a couple of weeks ago based on good reviews from this forum especially from Chef June.

Has anyone been there recently and offer any reviews of Maceo now that it has a new chef?

Thanks.

Restaurant Help in Paris

Thanks.
I will reconsider Au Bon Accueil and look into Maceo.

Also, perhaps we should do a seafood restaurant since we all like fish. Our last trip we had a wonderful dinner at Les Fables de Fontiaine.....any suggestions along these lines?

OK Great. We will definitely reserve Chez L'Ami Jean.

No, it does not have to be bistros. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

I will take that one off my list.
But, do you think the others are too similar....aren't they all classic bistros?

Restaurant Help in Paris

We are two couples who will be in Paris for 5 days in late September. We are celebrating a big birthday and have decided we will have lunch at Le Cinq to celebrate. That is the only definite decision we have made.

We are staying on the border of the 6th and 7th arr near Bon Marche. We cannot eat at many of the highly regarded restaurants on this board such as Spring or Papilles as one of us does not eat meat, and the set menus include meat dishes.

I have tried to come up with a list of choices for four dinners (we will skip dinner on the day we eat lunch at Le Cinq)..

La Regalade (either one as they are equidistant from our hotel)
L'Ami Jean
Chez Josephine
L'Epi Dupin
Le Timbre
Moustache
Au Bon Accueil
Maison du Jardin

Any feedback that would help me narrow my choices would be appreciated. I am thinking those on my list are similar and would love some other choices.

Thanks.

Picky, Unadventurous Eater in San Sebastian

The restaurant in Avignon is Hiely. It was the first time any of us had eaten turbot as it is not a common fish serve here in the US. The one person who ordered the beef said it was delicious.

Picky, Unadventurous Eater in San Sebastian

Thanks for your thoughts.

I am sure I will be able to find something to eat wherever we go in SS, and I definitely want my husband to be able to experience the great dining opportunities in SS.

I won't eat turbot because last summer in Provence I ordered turbot at a well regarded restaurant in Avignon. Three of us in our group ordered the turbot, and none of us could eat it, including my husband. It was gelatinous and tasteless, and I did not eat fish for three months after that. So I don't think my husband or I will order turbot again!

That being said, as I read over my post, I realize I do sound weird to anyone who is a true foodie. I truly wish I did eat more things, as I know SS is a food paradise.

Picky, Unadventurous Eater in San Sebastian

We will be in San Sebastian three nights in June. My husband will eat anything, but I am very unadventurous. I looked at the menus of the restaurants we were recommended such as Bodegon Alejandro, Urepel, and Kokotxa and all the "menus" feature veal cheeks, wood pigeon, turbot, hake.....all of which I don't eat.

We plan on eating Pinxtos a couple of nights, and I think I will be able to find enough to eat.

Any other restaurants in that same price range with a wide range of choices would be appreciated.

Henri or Table 52 for Sunday Dinner

We will be in Chicago this weekend for a family reunion and staying on Michigan Avenue.

Coincidentally, our anniversary falls on Sunday night, and we want to celebrate at a restaurant in the area as we won't have a car and will need to walk or take a taxi.

The two restaurants I have found that are open on Sunday for dinner in our vicinity are Henri and Table 52. Any opinions on which to choose would be greatly appreciated.

We are open to any other suggestions as well!

Hegia in Pays Basque

Thanks all for the recommendations of Hegia.

I e mailed them at info@hegia.com on Thursday morning. I did not hear back yet.

On the web site, there are two telephone numbers, and one is a cell phone. Should I just call them today? I certainly do not want to lose out on this special experience.

My husband and I will be traveling in this region in June. We are celebrating very big birthdays and want to splurge and stay somewhere very memorable. I have read about Hegia in Hasparren....Souphie and others have recommended this special inn. My question is how far in advance should we book a night here?

We are taking our 10 year old granddaughter to NYC for three days at the end of July. Her favorite foods are tempura shrimp and edamame, sterak, hamburger, fettucini alfredo, and pizza. We are staying at the London NYC 54 St. bet. 6 and 7 aves.

I would appreciate some suggestions of restaurants where she can order some of her favorite foods without breaking the bank.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hungry Mother gets great reviews on Zagat.....sounds perfect. How long of a cab ride would it be from the Lenox Hotel in Back Bay? We are traveling with our 85 year old mother so public transport is not an option.

Thanks for your help.

Need One More Dinner Suggestion in Boston

We are a mother and three daughters who are going to Boston for a three day weekend the end of April. We have done an annual weekend trip since our Dad passed away 7 years ago, and this year we will be in Boston....just the women, no husbands! We come from Miami, Denver and Chicago and a big part of the weekend besides getting together is choosing the restaurants.

We have already decided on Mistral and Taranta and need help with the third night. We need somewhere that is moderately priced (about $30 pp without drinks) and will honor reservations. Mistral is French and Taranta is Mediterranean so maybe seafood or American.

Any ideas?

Aureole Bar Room or Orso for Pre-Theater this Friday night

Aureole Bar Room or Orso for Pre-Theater this Friday night

We are leaving for NYC tomorrow and I still don't know where to dine pre-theater Friday night. I have narrowed it down to a 5:30 reservation at the Bar Room at the Aureole or Alto at the same time.

Which would you recommend taking into consideration quality of the food and service. I was not sure whether Alto would be more enjoyable for a leisurely dinner as opposed to pre-theater. I want to make a decision tonight as we leave tomorrow morning.

Any help would be appreciated.
