First time staying in Baltimore

Anywhere in the DC/Bmore area that's like Amsterdam Falafelshop but with Meat?

3rd Max's in Wheaton for very good Falafal and Schwarma very much like what you would get in Tel Aviv. Kosher so closed Friday evening and reopens Saturday nite after sundown and the end of the Jewish Sabbath.

a nice brunch restaurant near Columbia, MD for a Baby Shower

First time staying in Baltimore

Lived in philly for 6 years. We can't touch your cheese steaks or old school Italian cooking.
1. Attman's is somewhat comparable to Famous delicatessen, just older, more crummy old school inside but is good and is a Baltimore icon. Try a coddie ( cold seasoned codfish and potato cake served on saltines with mustard..a Baltimore specialty), French fries with gravy, kishka ( stuffed derma) corned beef, pastrami, chopped liver, tongue, very good fresh rye.
2. Love Tio Pepe. Ask the waiter about 3 n 1 and 4 n1 to understand. Won't be on the menu. Might want to scope out menu before hand but their daily specials might include 15 each starters and main courses
3. Agree woodberry is one of the better baltimore places and should be a dinner choice
4. I think Baltimore style seafood is unique and never had seafood in Philly that was as good other than mussels or linguine with clam sauce. Nicks, Bo Brooks, Canton Dockside, Captain James Dockside, Costa's, LP Steamers are all well known crab houses . This topic can be searched on the Baltimore chow page
5. Have you done Lexington Market, Baltimores version of Reading Terminal market. A littler rougher but highlights include Faidleys Seafood for raw oysters and clams, a fantastic fried premium back fin crab cake, The roasted peanut stand outside for hot fresh roasted nuts, the Fried chicken wing and chicken liver stand, Mary Mervis for good corned beef and deli sandwiches plus Berger cookie stand for iconic famous chocolate top cookies best eaten with a cold milk.

First time staying in Baltimore

1. where r you from? although I love Attmans, I wouldn't send you there if you were from NYC
2. also, conspicuously missing the Baltimore seafood experience- Steamed crabs and crabcakes
3. love your choice of Charleston
4. would rec a night at Tio Pepe- old school icon spanish-fantastic still with gambas, mussels in green sauce and the crabmeat cocktail to start, love the 3 in 1 and 4 in 1 which are not on menus but basically give you smaller portions of 3 or 4 main courses. Sole with crabmeat in champagne sauce...oh my. Zarzuela de mariscos costa brava (seafood stew), fantastic meats fishes , finish strong with their pine nut cake and also drink either white or red sangria
night 3---love Black Olive-great whole fish and middle eastern influenced food. Alternative, Ikaros-very good greek, another alternative- The Helmond- classy nice afghan food, delicious, good place!
5. Woodberry could be for dinner
6. Brewer's art is a good choice

costco stores sell liquor in maryland?

@agarnet100: SFW and Safeway are different entities under different ownership thus each is entitled to one license in the state of Maryland

What great ethnic chow in DC won't I find in NYC?

I think the obvious choice in DC for ethnic food that is not in NYC is the abundant choices of Ethiopian Restaurants. You can easily search dc page since this topic has been repeated multiple times.

Annapolis - Cheap, Good Eats

Chick and Ruths, iconic deli, milk shakes, decent sandwiches was on food network man vs food for the jumbo milkshake

Cantler's. For steamed Maryland crabs and steamers ( clams)
Lewnis steakhouse not cheap but reasonable for very good steak and seafood, locally owned

costco stores sell liquor in maryland?

A licensee may have one liquor license only in the state. In montco, liquor is only sold in county owned liquor stores while beer and wine can be sold in privately owned stores but again the one license per entity/owner still applies. In olney, the new Safeway is their only store in MD to sell beer and wine. Not sure if any Costco stores in MD sell any alcoholic beverages but technically they could have one store which could if outside of montco or beer and wine if in montco.

JFX 2012

Soft shell crabs will not be lively. Remove the gills and eyes mouth, dust in flour and sauté in butter cut with a little veg oil to prevent burning the butter till brown. Serve on white bread with iceberg lettuce and a thick slice of ripe tomato with a cold beer, a pickle spear and some fresh Utz potato chips and you have recreated the Maryland classic.

Dulles to Ocean City, MD: any good chow near Rt 50?

Exit 42 on route 50 on the eastern shore about 5 miles from bay bridge is Kent Narrows where you can waterfront dine on fresh seafood, crabs etc. waterfront at The Crab Deck or Harris Crab House. Not far on Kent IIsland is The Narrows restaurant which has what some say is the best cream of crab soup and crab cakes in Maryland. All should have soft shell crabs right now

New Kosher Deli in Howard County -- Anyone Know Pita & Rye?

Location, location, location.......why would someone expect a kosher restaurant to succeed in Howard county? Hard enough to stay afloat in pikesville or montco with large Jewish and orthodox Jewish populations

Looking for Baltimore Rest. for 12-15 ppl Graduation Dinner

FG: no re-do's in life. Not every day you get to celebrate a graduation from JHU school of Medicine. Definitely worth the not so great difference in price for what you are getting in exchange.

Looking for Baltimore Rest. for 12-15 ppl Graduation Dinner

I beleve that there is only one way to celebrate a graduation from johns Hopkins medical school and that is to go to The Prime Rib. Although it is a little pricier than some of the other choices, it truly has exceptional food, exceptional professional waiters and is iconic for an achievement of this magnitude!

4 days at Inner Harbour

I like your list. Would forget Fago unless you are going for the experience for the kids. If you want fantastic over the top Chinese you can go 20 minutes to Grace Garden Chinese near Fort Meade. Research it on this page and the threads speak for itself. Also agree that although it is old school, Tio Pepe still delivers fantastic Spanish Cuisine including great fresh fish and seafood. Might want to take the kids to Miss Shirley's and Cafe Hon for breakfast. Also might want to do a Maryland crab feast. If you want steamed hardshell crabs etc. You can also research this since there is great debate of where to go in Baltimore, especially with the closing of OBrycki's

4 days at Inner Harbour

Go. Still can get fried livers, hard to beat A dozen oysters, the premium crab cake and a beer at Faidley's , the corn beef sandwich at merry Mervis is still great, the hot roasted peanuts at the nut vendor are great, Berger cookies.....worth a lunch and a couple of hours of grazing.

Need Dinner Recommendations for Bethesda Area

not sure of any deli in Bethesda worth going to, Bethesda has over 100 restaurants, some which are very good. also a great range in prices
lunch: Cornacopia- a small italian gourmet grocery store that has a few small tables and makes fantastic sandwiches with fine cured meats and cheeses, expensive balsalmic reductions and arugula. Taylor Gourmet- fantastic subs named after streets in Philadelphia, I love the fried chicken cutlet with provolone, roasted red peppers and brocolli rabe. South street Steaks- authentic Philly cheese steaks.
Dinner- Blacks- upscale seafood, fine dining. business casual, Ruths Chris Steak, Green Papaya- upscale vietnamese, Tako Grill- Sushi and Japanese grill house, Jaleo- spanish tapas, Haven Pizza- upscale New Haven style thin crust pizza including a great white garlic fresh shucked clam pizza (can do this for lunch) , Bethesda Crab House- MD style steamed hardshell crabs and beer, Mussel Bar- Belgian mussel and beer bistro (also can do for lunch)

Crossroads closed?

have loved Crossroads in Dayton MD in Howard County for crabs and Maryland seafood. Have tried calling the last 3 days and get a answering message saying that you have called Dogwood and please leave a message. Does anyone know what is going on with crossroads. There are 2 Yelp reviews in March 2012 so it was open then.

Very small wedding venue (8 people or less) in the DC or NoVA area

Might want to check out 2941. You could have the ceremony out on the terrace which is lovely and then go into one of the private rooms afterwards. They would make a special menu with you.
