Earl's is open at Square One

Went to Earl's this weekend on a recommendation from a co-worker. I'll be asking for a reimbursement from him on Monday. Ordered the NY Strip and had mash, warm potato salad, and shrooms on the side. I can honestly say that I've never actually paid money for a steak that tough in my life. I'm including both grocery stores and restaurants. My jaw still hurts. Mind you, it was cooked perfectly (med-rare), but it was like eating a grilled pot roast. It was under-seasoned as well, but that might be personal taste. The sides were all good, but I didn't pay $26 for sides (actually thinking about it, I did pay $7 extra for the sides). I'm downtown and for sure I can't say it's worth the drive to Mississauga especially if you're in the mood for steak. The Keg is like Harbour 60 compared to this place.

Mid-Range Italian Downtown

Tutti Matti on Adelaide at Peter St is my favourite at the mid-range price. Nice cozy little place with great food. probably about a 20-minute walk for you from church. well worth it in my opinion.

BEST cookie in T.O - Le Gourmand

I completely agree. The choco chip and walnut is amazing. almost crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. perfect!

Hand Pulled Chinese Noodles in Toronto?

I second Mothers Dumplings, the beef w/hand made noodles we had there were excellent, as were the steamed pork and chive dumplings. Good prices too. Two of us ate like kings for $20

went to Xacutti for brunch today. it was fantastic. we couldn't decide what to get from the menu because everything sounded great. ended up sharing the cardamom biscuits to start off, i ordered the banana brulee french toast with italian sausage and my b ordered the mango french toast bread pudding with bacon with an order of masala home fries to share as well. everything was great. portions were much larger than I would have expected from a 'higher-end' brunch place.
next time probably won't order the biscuits or the home fries, because neither of us could finish our meals. it was so good i wanted to bring the leftovers home, but i figured we'd be the first people ever to take a doggie-bag home from brunch...
only downside was had to wait about 45 minutes for a table at about 10.30, but for sure, well worth the wait. can't wait to go back and try something else off the menu.

Toronto Hungarian Restaurants

I would highly recommend The Schnitzel House for sure. I always get the same thing and I'm always very satisfied and normally cannot finish everything. Start with a goulash, finish with a farmer's schnitzel (schnitzel with farmer's cheese) with the potatoes and red cabbage. The potatoes are fabulous, crispy with a hint of garlic, although the dumplings are also very good sometimes for a change.
One warning though, although service is very friendly, it is slow sometimes beyond belief. So be prepared for at least a two hour meal. Oh and it's a family run business so the posted hours are sometimes more like suggestions. I think it 'closes' around 10pm, but if it's not busy they will close earlier. Best to get there before 9.
I live downtown and I've been to Paprika and The Coffee Mill as well and would much rather drive to Richmond Hill for The Schnitzel House.
