New Post: What's Good in Dedham

Hoping to get a CH board going on restaurant options in the Dedham area. No clue what's there, other than the Legacy Place type stuff

Anything good in Dedham???

Reopening this post - looking at homes in Dedham, MA - curious on any restaurants (non-chains) that CH's might like in the area

Post Baptism Brunch/Lunch Ideas?

Despite some less than stellar comments, I took the advice of Park and am signing a contract with them. They can offer a decent package, so here's hoping to a nice event.

If not, I have plenty of (food) & drink to consume to make it feel less painful

It's not me trying to be "cheap" but typically if I owned a big enough house, it would be a party afterwards. I don't love the idea of a celebration ending with a $1500 tab for us new parents.

Cambridge Common is a personal favorite - was thinking that originally - just not sure if it looks the part. BUT I can break the conventional thinking and make it more fun for everyone. Menu is priced right, drinks are cheap enough etc...

I dont want to be buying $20 plates for everyone. Was hoping to get into a prix fix brunch/lunch, or keep it to a small under $20 menu. They can get their own drinks

I should add - the address is 11 Garden Street for the event - but for the Brunch/Lunch - if driving somewhere close works best, and if parking is an option, that works.

Post Baptism Brunch/Lunch Ideas?

We are starting to plan a date for our new baby's baptism, should be mid-October (near Harvard Sq)

Thinking about Parking (nightmare for out of towners) and cost - do you have any recs on places near by? I am hoping to keep costs fairly cheap considering we're footing the bill... but for this post, let's say space for 20-30 people (private room not necessary) and maybe passed apps or moderate off the menu ordering ... Excluding booze

Low Alcohol IPA?

Founder's All Day IPA
Notch's Left of the Dial
Evil Twin Bikini Beer

those are 3 I would recommend

Bikini Beer--Evil Twin Brewing--2.7% IPA

I am a big fan, as it takes the idea of almost a session beer to the next level. This is the perfect beach beer or just a nice cookout. You can get flavor without becoming hammered...and you accomplish the avoidance of the major "lite" beers.

Post dinner drinks in South End/Theater district/chinatown?

My fault on seeing the food only. Though, at 10 PM any single app and drinks to me is still business.

A table and $100 in drinks, is still more desirable

Awesome burgers: new thread

Saturday, I tried both new burgers on the Aquitaine menu:

Reuben Burger: With pastrami, aged gruyère, special sauce and pickled onion rings

Truffled Bacon Burger: Aged cheddar, truffle mayo and pommes frites

overall both we simply amazing...but the edge goes to the Pastrami burger. that burger was unreal and I could have had a second one.

Though the price seemed to jump up a bit, 16-$17 now for each burger...but hell, who in Boston does a burger of that quality for much less.

Do yourself a favor and try these.

I very much disagree that about the bartending. I think they have a great staff.

Foodwise, I do not think the Beehive is a great food option

I only went 1x to Dali...can't say I was a huge fan either...I always just think of Tapas spots as hit or miss...

Cuchi Cuchi on the other hand, I really do enjoy

Cuchi Cuchi or Dali might be 2 unique options. The tapas would allow you a lot of food flexibilty.

Best Italian restaurant - limited to Boston itself

I guess I should retract it a bit. Mikes & Modern are fine - but the lines are too much. Bova's we've tried the last 2 times and I have either thought it was better or on the same level as both...with no major lines.

I have also received unreal customer service while there, which always makes me skew one way or another.

Best Italian restaurant - limited to Boston itself

Trattoria di Monica and Trattoria il Panino are my go to spots - I am learning that when I dare hit the North End - don't get cute and just got to these places and get out...

I am also going to say forget Mike's Pastry and Modern...go to Bova's

North End Failure

The table sort of kept building out after we were sat. I am not one to get up and leave, figured I would give it a shot.

North End Failure

Just a random quick review, not sure if others have had any similar or opposite experiences:

Went to Maurizio's on Hanover St. this weekend and was very unimpressed.

The decor looked ratty, the restaurant had a very loud table of girls with which the waiter was constantly interacting with, and the food was sub-par.

The bread right off the start was hard/crusty, like it was stale

We split 2 apps, the:

Rolled slices of eggplant stuffed with ricotta cheese, basil, sun dried tomatoes and parmesan cheese, topped with tomato sauce

This was VERY sweet, and though it was tolerable, it was only because of the cheese and sauce covering it all.

Mussels simmered in a garlic, evoo, basil, white wine, plum tomato sauce

They were too big and tasted a little spoiled. Mussels shouldn't require fork dissection to get them out of the shells

Entrees:

Wife had the Homemade saffron potato gnocchi, seasonal veggies, mascarpone, sage cream sauce

This was OK - though they seemed a bit undercooked. This was probably the "highlight" of the meal which isn't saying much

I had the Malloreddus alla Campidanese/ The classic Sardinian (and signature) pasta dish served in a savory meat sauce made with sausage, lamb, diced vegetables, red wine and tomatoes

This tasted like a hamburger helper version of American Chop Suey.

The portions were large for both entrees, but the presentation was beyond sloppy. The food was terrible.
