Best pan for pancakes (on tilted stove)?
I have the same issue and I use a GRIDDLE pan (not grill) and it seems to work although if you are getting cooked on on side and raw on the other, it sounds as if you have a severely tiltled stove. Perhaps you should try to get it adjusted or use a shim. The electric skillet is a good idea too.
Ugh, why did I order that? Do you ever know better but do it anyway?
For me, it's french fries. I recently declared to my husband that unless fries come recommended by a trusted source, or if I have had a good experience with them myself, I will no longer order fries. In addition to tasting bad, they are also usually overpriced. I find that they can be too hard, too cold, too greasy, flavorless...ugh, the list goes on. I love fries, but they have been ruining the burger/sandwich experience, so I will skip them from now on.
Costco Chicken Pot Pie
I love it too! However, it's too much food for just me and hubby. Plus, I live in SoCal and it doesn't get cold enough to have such a heavy meal. But it would have been perfect for the days when we were shoveling snow in Ohio!
Top Chef - D.C. - Finale, Part 2 (Ep. #14) - 09/15/10 (Spoilers)
I am curious why a lot of people think that this season was boring? I thought that this season had the most collective talent than any other. Granted, there was not a lot of fighting, back biting or romances, but I watch for the cooking and to me the caliber and talent of the chefs this season was the best. Interested to hear everyone's thoughts.
p.s. I am happy for Kevin. Unlike others, I have been watching him all season and while he was fortunate to not only have MV as a sous, but also as a FRIEND in the kitchen, I still believe he won with HIS food. Do you really think MV's ego would allow him to win somone else's competition w/o the credit?
Six Taste Food Tours
I was at Pershing Square yesterday waiting for my bus and I saw a group of people carrying tote bags with 'Six Taste Food Tours' on the bag. Has anyone had any experience with this food tour? www.sixtaste.com
Last Restaurant Standing-Jan 26 spoilers
I am still a fan! I agree with other posts that it is sad that Barney and Badger couldn't continue because they were certainly the team to beat. I too wish that JJ and James will be the next to go. I had enough of them when one of them winked several times at Raymong during the first episode. However, Raymond seems to be enchanted with their business experience. The women who are cooking the bland, westernized Nigerien food, seem to lack a clear concept and focus. Why the need to westernize any type of food? When you are trying to introduce it to the masses, it should be flavorful and authentic enough to make patrons curious enough to want to try even more.
THE VETTING ON MIRACLE MILE HAS BEGUN! Organic to Go's $8 prefab cafeteria tuna salad sandwiches and the wretched Toshi's have become the first victims of the far superior FancyTrucks™!
The downtown locations of Organics to Go have also closed. There has also been a lot of competition from the trucks on Grand Avenue on Bunker Hill. It seems as if a new truck shows up every couple of days.
Coffee-Mate Creamer...does anyone use this stuff?
I use the Sugar Free refridgerated kind...French Vanilla. It's not as thick (oily?) as the sugar kind...tastes good to me!
Last Restaurant Standing [America Showing]
Did anyone notice that the food was barely mentioned this past episode? I thought that Raymond would have a lot more to say about the Coq a Vin and the Japenese food. Instead he seemed to focus more on the errors on the menus, ect. I was also annoyed by the fact that the chef a Nel's (Helen?) stated that she hated Malyasian food, but then said later that she had never eaten it.
Tea
I love Celestial Seasonings Madagascar Vanilla Red (Rooibos) Tea. Very smooth with a natural mild sweetness.
Mini Bagels
I have looked for mini bagels in LA and can't seem to find any. I live east of downtown, but I am willing to travel to get them (in bulk). I am looking for whole wheat, but I am flexible. Can anyone tell me where to find them?
Has anyone seen this? I don't see a thread,
I saw it when it aired last year. Made me feel sick and very sad.
McDonald's Iced Coffee ?
It has been highly publisized that McD's is trying to move into the coffee wars and it seems like in the teenage demo in my neighborhood it's working. Everywhere I turn I see a teen w/a big cup of the McD's iced coffee. It may be working, because McD's iced coffee is $1.89, much more of a value for someone who gets an allowance vs. what a Venti would cost at $tarbuck$.
McCormick & Schmick's
I like the parmasean encrusted talapia. I get it every time I go (if it's on the menu). They usually have a pretty large lunch menu at decent prices.
Chefography - Duff Goldman Ace of Cakes
I justed watched it yesterday and I thought that it was interesting that the issue of his cakes LOOKING great, but not TASTING very good was addressed (a topic that has been mentioned on CH boards a few times). I remember seeing a recent episode of Ace of Cakes when a local newspaper accused their cake of having more form than function. Needless to say, Duff was highly offended.
Tallest/highest restaurants downtown?
When did Windows close? I was there for Valentine's Day 2007.
Tallest/highest restaurants downtown?
The City Club is located at the top of the Wells Fargo building...I believe top floor.
Mom's Artichoke Hummus -- Packaged Panacea?
I love Mom's roasted garlic hummus...I get it from a stand at a Farmer's Market that visits downtown. I happen to like smooth and creamy.
Cupcakes?
I recently tried the cupcakes from Dots in Pasadena. The flavor was good, not too sweet and the cake was very moist and dense. A friend of mine who has tried Sprinkles (I haven't) said that Dots is a lot better.
Ginger Ales You have Loved
I will always love Cotton Club Ginger Ale, I think it's a midwestern brand.
Just ate at Joes Pizza in NY and Santa Monica
Never had it in NYC, but I went to Joe's in SM and had a very good bowl of Minestrone, I was impressed.
Last Restaurant Standing - BBC America
What I couldn't believe was when he pushed back on his client who didn't want to have a jazz band at her catered event. The fact that they hadn't fully discussed the music at the event, but he already signed a contract with a jazz band was not the client's problem and I couldn't believe how rudely he behaved.
Celebrity-driven restaurants, are they ever any good?
I haven't been to many here in Los Angeles, but the worst by far is Madre's, Jennifer Lopez's restaurant. The food is (supposed to be) Cuban and it was tastless...yes, tasteless CUBAN food!
Black napkins offered
Black napkins aren't usually offered, but I always ask and about 70-80% of the time I get one.
Mexican Coke SPOTTED!
I saw some today at Costco in the City of Industry (60 Fwy & Azusa).
favorite potato chips
Snyder's of Berlin (I think it's a midwest product) Salt and Vinegar...the very best I've tasted.
"Insider's Table" @ Cheesecake Factory
I finally got my 'kit' in the mail last week with the three coupons. The fine print and the info in the booklet that comes with the coupons say that you don't have to purchase a meal to redeem them. CF just asks that you share the food with someone else to get their opinion.
