Looking for recs near Stony Brook University

Try Green Tea for authentic Chinese food. Very popular with students who have roots in China.

Need a vegan restaurant on Long Island

Here are some restaurants that may not be vegan but do have vegan items on their menus: BBD’s in Rocky Point, Taste of Africa in Deer Park, That Meetball Place in Patchogue, Vege Favor in Islip and Little Fu’s Hewlett.

Italian - Nassau

Luigi Q in Hicksville. Virtually everything made with care, skill and authenticity.

Help in Hempstead

Nakisaki in Hempstead has been closed two years. A loss, for sure.

Manhattan Clam Chowder on Long Island

Try the Manhattan clam chowder at Old Fields in Greenlawn. I think it hits all the right notes.

New Years Eve on Long Island

Can you be more specific? What part of Long Island? It is, after all, a very long island. Also, what are you looking for in a celebration?

Long Island Sushi Question.....

You're probably thinking of Kotobuki in Hauppauge, which is good but not amazing enough to merit its Zagat rating. Another option would be Kushi, in a little Nesconset strip mall. Or (a related restaurant) Onsen in Oakdale. All three should be within easy driving of where you're staying.

Roosevelt Field Mall

A new Chipotle opened up at RF. You can find it on the first floor, near Skinny Pizza. Much better than anything the food court has to offer.

Quiet dinner in Deer Park, Long Island

Lucy's has been gone for well over a year.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

Why do you say that for under $15 it's just pizza or burgers? There's chicken - clearly, you know about Pollos El Paisa. And now, Sabor a Colombia.

As for pupusas in Freeport, I haven't eaten in any within a reliable enough span of time to make a recommendation. But I'd love to know, if you do try one or two, what you think of them. After all, the eater most rewarded is the one who ventures into a new place without trepidation.

So, Gastronomos, go forth and bring back something useful to report from your own experience. I look forward to hearing all about what you find!

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

So, there you are....Thomas's, which is another very good choice! And then, there's Bobby's Burger Palace at Roosevelt Field....both burgers and fries are quite worthy.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

Sabor very similar to Pollos El Paisa. Another thought: if you can stand the wait, Shake Shack has a fine burger that's a real bargain, like $5. Forget the fries, though.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

You have to factor in a tip, if it's a place with table service, so chances are, you won't be getting out for much under $15 or so. There are alternatives, like pupusas at one of the El Salvadoran places in Freeport. And there's also Colombian or Peruvian chicken, which can be amazingly cheap. Try Sabor Colombia in Levittown.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

More important, what do you consider a "not-break-the-bank" expensive lunch for one on the run? The more clarity you can provide, in dollars and cents, the more apt the suggestions will be.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

Forgive the misspelling. Have you eaten at Chat Noir in RVC? How about Artie's South Shore Fish & Grill in Island Park? Not rock bottom cheap, but certainly not break-the-bank expensive. Vittorio's in Amityville has a very nice lunch menu. And you could take a ride to Little Mexico in Westbury for some pretty authentic tacos de lengua. Or to Biscuits & Barbeque in Mineola for a po' boy or muffaletta. If these recs don't suit you, let me know and I'll try to come up with some more.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

Where - generally speaking - are you located in Nassau, Gastronomus?

Good Ramen on Long Island?

Try Daisho of Japan in Huntington. Ramen is their specialty. So good, the ramen soup with roast pork. Wish I had some now!

recs requested for Woodbury, Long Island please

I would definitely check out Market Bistro in Jericho for well-conceived farm-to-table fare.

Need rec for lunch en route from Bar Harbor to New London

Thanks for the tips! I was too early for lunch in Portland; I wound up eating in Lowell, MA, at a place called La Boniche. Well worth the 5-minute detour off Rte. 495. Fab grilled pork with roasted potatoes and squash for a mere $12.

Need rec for lunch en route from Bar Harbor to New London

Looking for somewhere quick but chow-worthy off I-95, mid-Maine to Massachusetts. A great lobster roll would be especially fine. Thanks in advance.

Rapid City...Mt. Rushmore Area Dining info Needed

Definitely Corn Exchange in Rapid City. Locavore, sophisticated and well-executed. For breakfast or lunch, try Talley's Silver Spoon. I've also heard good things about Delmonico, although I didn't eat there.

Cuban Sandwich on Long Island??

Try the Cuban sandwich at Classic American in West Babylon. There's also a good one at Sapsuckers in Huntington.

Project: Long Island Coffeehouse map

1014 Coffee House is in Northport, not East Northport. Check their Facebook page for a map.

Need recs for Rapid City, SD

Will be spending two nights in Rapid City and need some suggestions. The main requirement: delicousness. Corn Exchange? Enigma? Delmonico's? Something else? Any insight appreciated.

Oyster bay care package

Check out Messina Market, which is in nearby East Norwich.

Anniversary dinner in North Fork

Definitely North Fork Table & Inn. Nothing else even comes close.
Happy anniversary!

Best Take Out in Huntington Village?

It's hard to go wrong with the panini at La Bottega. Or else you could get a sandwich from Sapsuckers - messy but good!

La Bottega
3216 Long Beach Rd, Oceanside, NY 11572

Deli salads in Nesconset

Try Uncle Guiseppe's in Smithtown. It's a big market with lots of prepared salads.

Dinner near ISP

Bistro 25 in Sayville is a real winner (try the lamb porterhouse). For sushi, there's Onsen in Oakdale. And I really like Thai Angel in Islandia.

If you don't have a car and you're staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, Mama Mia's is walking distance and not bad.

Dinner Near Melville - Tall Order

Try Red Fish in Plainview, which is usually reliable, seems very "Long Island-y" and has a midweek price fixed deal.
