Thanks! Wagon Wheel sounds lovely! We are likely sleeping in Shelburne Falls - we're aiming for a slow, rambling route, so the 20 minute backtrack is nothing. Thanks for the suggestions :) |

OOOH! My fellow road trippers are going to be very excited by that one. Thank you! |

Thank you! The 2 is dubbed one of TripAdvisor's top 10 'Vintage American Road Trips', so that's why we're taking it. That said, we may reconsider given some of those points of interest. |

Canadian taking a road trip with friends in June: starting in Boston, driving the 2 (George W Stanton Highway, I think it's called) to Greenfield/Shelburne Falls area; continuing on the I-91 through Brattleboro to Burlington. Any places we shouldn't miss? Can be anything from a roadside stand, a market, or a mom & pop's to a hip gastropub. Lunch, breakfast, dinner, whatever - we'll need all kinds of meals. One condition: we're not interested in places with $30 mains. Bonus points for places on interesting, walkable strips, places with excellent patios, places that brew their own beer, or places that have cool things to do or see nearby! Thanks in advance - looking forward to suggestions. And sorry. Sorry. Ugh, sorry. I can't stop apologizing, being Canadian and all. Sorry. |

Good way to doctor up jar spaghetti sauce? I blitz sundried tomatoes or oven-dried tomatoes in the food processor and toss them into pasta or pizza sauce. Makes it a bit sweeter, and great for a margherita pizza. I've also simmered dried porcini mushrooms until soft, chopped them up, and added them to store-bought marinara with a bit of their cooking liquid and a tiny splash of cream. This idea came from a recipe for Gnocchi with that simple sauce. |

New to Ottawa ... looking for some good food outside The Market. Go to Hintonburg and Wellington Village! Try: Tennessy Willem's (wood oven pizza - reservation strongly recommended); Thyme & Again (lunch, catering, pastries, coffee); Vina del Mar (cheap, delicious Chilean food - terrible decor, but wicked service and menu - best hot sauce I've ever had); Petit Bill's Bistro (a little pricier - lobster poutine's worth a try); Hintonburger (basically a shack with some seating, but delectable cheap burgers, natural and local ingredients). ----- Petit Bill's Bistro |
