Where should we stop for lunch in Eastern NC....?

Oooooo - I forgot, I went to the Haitian place. Umh, not so perfect. It's called the Haitian Restaurant...not very imaginative. The interior is not appealing, and it's hard to figure out what the menu is because there is no menu other than a board that is partly illegible and some flyers. I wanted fish. Which was out. Then I wanted something else, which was also out. So I finally settled on oxtail and fried chicken for my son. The fried chicken was bland, and the oxtail was very greasy and also fairly bland. I grew up with french cuisine and know creole cuisine, and Haitian is supposed to be a mix of that and African, but I was underwhelmed. Will not go here again, partly also because their sanitary rating was somewhat unimpressive.
Tiendas: there are a billion tiendas on 111 between Goldsboro and Mount Olive or wherever. There is also one tacqueria I go to, but I can't remember the name, it is at the intersection of 111 and slick rock road. Further down is Tienda Flores, which also has a restaurant run byT the mom of one of my students, so I will try that. The kids say the suegras are really good, but I have not been there yet.
If you are looking for out of the way places where the majority of customers is Hispanic, that's the road to take. Thanks for all your tips and keep enjoying your food.

Thanks, but that's not it. I am thinking of a little place that I believe is inside a tienda hat used to be a gas station. I seem to remember that some of my students told me it was not Mexican, but I can't remember where exactly it was or even what cuisine it is. I might venture out this weekend and try to find it - will post if I do. Thanks!

Hi Naco - I have been sniffing out the places you recommend, and La Cuata is absolutely fantastic - will take a bunch of my students there next week to introduce them to real Mexican food. I have a question: somewhere around Dudley, there is a taqueria that - and this may be a contradiction in terms - that is El Salvadorian...or something? But not Mexican? Any clue what that is? I believe it's in a now defunct gas station.
