Slow Cooker Pork and Sauerkraut

I made this for my German neighbor yesterday and when she opened the lid she said she smelled home. She absolutely loved the dish. I used an electric skillet instead of the slow cooker and browned the pork well with the onions before adding other ingredients along with carrots. I used less sauerkraut and it ended up as a brown sauce for the meat and veg. I cooked for three hours. It was absolutely delicious, even the little children enjoyed it very much.

Home Tours: Tacky?

Casual guests don't need a tour but I think house guests do. I like house guests to feel free to get fresh towels, make coffee, get cereal or cookies, and go to the refrigerator anytime they want. As a guest I enjoy a house tour because it gives me insight into people and gives me an opportunity to appreciate them in ways I might never have known. A sewing room? Wow! You're reading that? Wow!

The Skinny on New Neuro Flavors

I like the Neuro Bliss. Absolutely LOVE the look of the product. The liquid is white, the bottle clear and the cap and letters blue. Very space age looking. I think the light lemony vanilla flavor is delicious and I get quite blissful when I drink it. Seriously.

Thanksgiving Turkey Cake

Well I just put one together. I figure it'll get a laugh at my New Years party. I chopped leftover turkey in a food processor and added egg, turkey gravy and just a little seasoning. I baked the sausage sage dressing along with the turkey cakes. It's frosted and waiting to go into the oven soon. I'll serve more homemade cranberry sauce and gravy. There'll be plenty of other foods for those who are offended by a little ol' turkey cake. . .

It was a big hit. We had guests from different parts of the world and many of them really savored the dressing especially.

I didn't like the texture and would probably use beautifully sliced turkey as a first layer if I made it again. A southern man asked for the leftovers and wants his wife to make it for him. All the kids ate it without complaint.

It looked beautiful and served very neatly. Be sure to press the marshmallows into the yams firmly so they don't roll off. I used the broiler and watched like a hawk to make sure they were browned nicely but not scorched.

Slow Cooker Pork and Sauerkraut

Oh, I left the peppercorns and juniper berries free. They are delicious little bonuses of flavor to munch on! Nobody minded them and some, like me, were glad to bite into them. After the long cooking they are not hard and the pepper is not sharp.

Slow Cooker Pork and Sauerkraut

I ended up using a high quality sweet Italian sausage because the store didn't have kielbasa that day. I followed the recipe exactly otherwise and it turned out wonderfully. Everyone really enjoyed it and asked for the recipe.

One thing, when I make it tomorrow I will use the same sausage, it was tender and delicious, but I will add another half amount of kraut and the same of potatoes and adjust the seasoning a little to compensate. We were all wishing for more veg.
