Best French Food in L.A. or the S.F. Valley

Wow, snarky much? The OP asked about SF Valley - for the Valley, these are French restaurants. You might not find them up to your refined tastes, but they've all been is business long enough that plenty of others do.

European Croissants and Hot Chocolate/Valley Preferred

You might want to try Belwood Bakery in Studio City.
Or Chez Nous in Toluca Lake.

Thanks, that sounds like fun, I'm adding it to my list and I'll do a search for fmed's other postings on the subject.

Vancouver - What are your "Can't miss" dinning experiences?

Thanks fmed. I checked out Vijs menu - I think I want to order 1 of everything. I"m interested in local seafood as well, so am adding Blue Water Cafe to the list.

John O'Groats opening in Encino?

I was driving down Ventura (right near Woodley) and could have sworn I saw a sign in a new building (the one with the Walgreens) for John O'Groats. Edit - just noticed on website that they are opening September/October.

Lunch in Venice

Um, Koo Koo Roo? Is that a joke?

I'd recommend Joe's, Primotivo or the French Market Cafe.

Who has the Best Pizza Margherita (Neapolitan Style)?

I had a really good one at Madeo's last month. I'm go out on a limb and say it was the best neapolitan pizza I've had in LA. I hesitate to say anything was best for fear of attack from some of you hardcore chows, but sorry, it was really really good, pricey for pizza but damn good.

Baby Shower Kosher for Passover Ideas???

Wow, thanks all, you've given me some really great ideas. I"m going to work on the menu using your ideas and I"ll post back with what I think I'll do.

Baby Shower Kosher for Passover Ideas???

Do you have a recipe for choux paste or paris breast you would recommend?

Baby Shower Kosher for Passover Ideas???

Hi All,

I'm co-hosting a baby shower that will fall during Passover. So I need some help with a menu that is kosher for passover. Anyone have any ideas for menu or recipes that I could use? Shower starts at 11:30, so I'm serving lunch to 20 ladies. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks!!!

Potato Donuts L.A. Area?

Anyone try these? I drove past a Spudnuts on Venice Blvd. last weekend...

ISO - Coconut Water

I recall seeing fresh coconuts with small holes already made (with saran film over them) sold at Whole Foods, you just grab a straw and are good to go. I know you said you were looking for the can, but the fresh tastes better.

If you still want the cans, I've seen those too (without the sugar and bits) at Whole Foods, Follow Your Heart, and Full of Life.

Hamantashen fillings

I've seen the canned poppyseed and prune fillings in the Jewish section at Ralphs too Sherman Oaks, Encino, North Hollywood, Universal City locations.

Best won ton soup?

Was it the place that used to be next to Amir's Falafel? I forgot the name but that place was a family favorite when I was growing up.

Gluten-free crumble, anyone?

I would try almond meal/flour in place of the other flours. Mix with butter and brown sugar. I made a pear and berry crumble using the almond flour a few weeks back. Tasted great, almond added a nice addition. I haven't had much luck with rice flour in the same way, not sure why but just didn't have the right texture.

Honeycrisp Apples?

Hmm, I'm going to have to find me a Pacific Rose if it's better than both the Honeycrisp and Fuji. Maybe I can find one at one of the Studio City farmers market this morning - anyone been yet and seen them?

Honeycrisp Apples?

Honeycrisp apples at Ralphs on Buena Vista in Burbank, as of yesterday. $2.99 a lb.

What to order at Nobu LA?

The salad with lobster or mushrooms.

Best Calamari

Please don't think I was making an attack on you. I just had a particularly lousy experience at Maria's and didn't want anyone to end up making the same mistake. Like I said, the one item at the table that was good was dessert - I still wouldn't go back because of it. It was my first and last time there. I don't understand how it's been in business for so long. Maybe people go there and make a meal out of just calamari and tiramisu.
