The dreaded steakhouse question....

Good to know, thanks. Narrowed it to SW and Cut. Just gonna check and see if there is a big difference in quality between the two

The dreaded steakhouse question....

great, thanks for the advice. Setting of SW does look amazing. Just a toss up now between that and Cut.

The dreaded steakhouse question....

I'd like to piggyback this threaad if I could rather than start yet another steakhouse one. Basically, I'm looking for a steakhouse for a meal with my girlfriend and I think we've ruled out Carnevino because the only rib eye they have is for two and our requests for doneness differ which rules that out.
That leaves the following, SW steakhouse, CUT, Delmonicos and Old Homestead.
THis will be a romantic meal so setting will make a difference.
Any advice much appreciated.

Cooked Frozen lobster recipe

I've got a load of lobster so thinking of trying bisque and mac and cheese which is not dissimilar to lobster thermidor and I've had good lobster mac and cheese before so hopefully it turns out ok. Thanks for all the helpful tips.
Intrigued by the burrito suggestion too, prawns lend themselves well to all manner of spices so I'm guessing lobster does too.

Multiple fat confit

In Ireland here and luckily trans fats are banned so all the lard is pure lard and nothing else added. Going to try a mixture and see how I get on. I've heard lard lends itself well to confiting pork belly for obvious reasons but sure I'll find out soon enough.
Thanks for all the responses, I gotta start using this site more, loads of helpful and interesting things.

Cooked Frozen lobster recipe

I have never cooked/used lobster at home before. I bought some cooked frozen lobster and not really sure what to do with it.
Any suggestions?

Multiple fat confit

yeah I have the supermarket stuff alright. How about dripping (beef fat) think it's a bit cheaper than duck fat. I know its great for chips (fries) and roast potatoes.
Not at home to look at the label but what does the supermarket lard contain?

Multiple fat confit

does it matter if I use different types of fat to confit a piece of meat such as pork belly or duck legs?
Just wondering if i mix lard and goose fat would it give an odd taste?
I'm mainly asking as a cost issue as lard is crazy cheap compared to goose or duck fat.

Do you think its worth joining Costco in Vancouver?

sossy should have pointed out i'm not single so there will be two of us and I must also point out that my girlfriend does have a mayonnaise fetish so its sounding more tempting by the minute. I might just check it out to see what they have. Thanks a million for all the replies.

Also having looked at other posts on costco I couldn't find much about the quality of meat there apart from one or two quite specific respinses, anyone know in general is the price good for quality beef and also do you have to buy a seriously large quantity that no right minded person would eat by the use by date.

Do you think its worth joining Costco in Vancouver?

Hi,
moving to van soon, will hopefully be living around west end area and just wondering would people recommend joining costco? I know some supermakets can be pricey so to avoid heading out to Canadian superstore would you advise joining costco?
Is one likely to make the cost of membership worthwhile taking into account I cook a lot at home
