Mole Restaurant on Lower East Side - Who has been?

Ummmm. Real baja fish tacos ARE fried and usually would come with sliced cabbage and a white sauce somewhat resembling a tartar sauce.

I've had great fish tacos that aren't fried but those aren't baja-style.

suggestions for dinner in brooklyn heights

I had a different experience with the black bean burger at Henry St. Ale House. I went a couple weeks ago and it was this very thin patty like what you'd find in the freezer section at the grocery store.

Barrio Park Slope

My wife and I went last night and it was pretty mediocre. The chips were a bit stale for starters. We got the queso fundido which was fine. I mean you can't ruin melted cheese can you? My wife had their grilled corn (not very good) and their carnitas tacos (so-so) while I had the chicken enchilladas which were alright.

We left the place thinking it was nice to sit outside under their awning but there was nothing special about the food or the menu that would make me think it would be any different if we were to go back and give it another shot.

any mexican restaurants in the heights??

If you're in Brooklyn Heights, your best bet is Hecho en Dumbo which as at the Dumbo General Store on Front St. (Sign just says Cafe - Bar). I think they were taking a few days off for the holidays so I'm not sure if it's open again.

New market similar to Citarella in DUMBO?

Foragers used to be hit or miss for me which I accepted because of the convenience but now it's just miss. A couple months back I got some of their prepared balsamic chicken and it was inedible. It's only a block away but I waited about a month before going back and got some of the prepared salmon which had been pretty good in the past. It too must have sat there for ages and was also inedible.

You think I would have learned my lesson but I finally went back after another couple months tonight to buy some salmon. When I got home and unwrapped it, there was a noticeablely too fishy smell. Hopefully I've now learned my lesson that their stuff just isn't fresh and I won't be going back. It's a shame that there's no decent option in the neighborhood.

DUMBO

Superfine is still there and good. Service can be pretty slow at times. Never been a huge fan of Rice but it seems to do quite well. There's a Japanese place called Miso which is fine that you won't need a reservation at.

If you'd like to take a chance on a resy, I'd go with Five Front which is right by St. Anne's.

Alma?

Indeed, a great view. Less than mediocre food. I'd go with some drinks and maybe some app's. Can't go too wrong there.

Busy Chef in Brooklyn Heights

Not sure I'd agree with the baked goods. I went in this weekend and asked for a blueberry muffin. I came across a single blueberry in the muffin and the whole thing just disintergrated as I tried to pull it apart.

Indian in Brooklyn Heights

I've got a craving for Indian tonight but was just planning on ordering in from a local place.

Does anyone have any recent experience with Curry Leaf on Remsen or Dhaka on Atlantic?

I'm obviously not shooting for the meal of a lifetime but if I'm better off fighting the craving, I'd like to know. Thanks

Fun restaurant in Greenwich, CT for a special b'day

I second Barcelona. Ate there a couple weeks back and had a great time. Really loud but the tapas are quite good.

My friends wanted to go to Little Italy....

They're coming from GA and wanted to have dinner in Little Italy on Friday night before they meet up with my wife and I.

While I know enough to tell them to stay away, I'm not sure I know of any good, moderately priced Italian alternatives although we often go to Noodle Pudding in Bklyn Heights or Malatesta in the West Village.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Food Maestro

I took a look inside the other night as I was walking back with a slice from Fascati. The ever-present scaffolding really doesn't help things. When I looked in, there were 3 people in the place so I glanced at the menu.

It didn't have too many items on there with a couple of basics like salmon and a roasted chicken breast. If I don't see a review soon, I might just have to head over for dinner one night assuming I can convince my wife to not eat at Noodle Pudding which is oh so close by.

A Peter Luger question...

I've never been before and am headed soon with my wife. As for how we like having our steak cooked, we're at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

When getting steak for 2, can you get it cooked two different ways?

Recent reports on Superfine?

Come to think of it, I think Superfine is closed for a couple weeks. You may want to call to check.

Recent reports on Superfine?

It can be a slow once in a while but I've never had anything approaching them.

I've always had great meals there and go about once a month.

I'll hazard a guess and say another restaurant with terrible food?

Oh by the way, it was Clark Street Station

Wow that is indeed a fast one. I was actually going to give it a shot soon too.

If they had more $, I suppose we could have a competition between them and the soon to be opened Food Maestro to see who could last the longest. I'm assuming, of course, that if Chez Henry wasn't quite what the neighborhood wanted then Food Maestro will not fare any better. Perhaps I'm just a tad too cynical....

Whole Foods update

I do love to go into Forager's occasionally just to see how much they've overpriced their fish on that day. It's so overpriced that they've it's passed outrage and gone onto comical.

Jack the Horse Tavern in Brooklyn Heights

Citronelle started off as Clark Street Station and was supposed to be some type of sports bar. I think it was painfully obvious after a month or two that it was a really bad idea so they made the change. Haven't eaten there yet but the menu looked interesting.

Breaking up with Grimaldi’s

I recently did the same and had been a big fan. Just tired of being treated so poorly there. It's like you're imposing on them when you ask them to make a pizza so you can fork over your $.

great hamburger in brooklyn

Clark's on Henry and Clark has a great patty melt. Not a true patty melt but white bread toasted, american cheese, grilled onions. Great stuff.

Queso in Manhattan?

Queso as in the melted cheese that you'd dip into with chips. I read on an Outer Boroughs board that Lobo in Cobble Hill has queso but it's basically melted Velveta. Doesn't sound promising....

Grimaldi's-Rude and arrogant

I've given Grimaldi's the perma-ban too.

Called in an order about 2 weeks ago and was told 30-35 mins. Showed up at around 20 mins later and asked the usual bitter guy at the front if it was ready. He mumbled something that sounded like "wait by the door." So I go outside and wait with the others. A guy came out holding a pizza, said something so I asked if it was my small pepperoni and he said no. 20 mins later, still no pizza so I go back in and the guy tells me my pizza was sitting on the ATM by the door. "Your pizza's been sitting there for an hour. Thank you." Then said it's at the door not for me to wait by the door.

I've never seen people making money hand over fist like that be so bitter. I'll just be giving my business to Fascati in the neighborhood.
