Really nice dinner at Malena

I've had my Summerlicious dinner at Malena this year, and I liked it very much. The main dish - grilled rock chicken (half) - was tender and juicy, unlike other places where grilled chicken is often dry and tasteless. Its dessert, some white chocolate wrapped phyllo pastries, was wonderful as well. My friends had lamb with fettuccine, however they didn't like it very much.

The only thing that bothered me was the lack of A/C upstairs. May be it was too hot outside, but it was pretty stuffy, esp. with the burning tea candles.

meh

Stonegrill. It's overpriced, and food is simply MEH.

Celestin - Don't Go

I love Simple Bistro as well. Went there once, the food was excellent, even the smell of its freshly baked bread made me feel hungry already. That's why it's so packed even on a weeknight.

ISO: Good Resto with pan-seared foie gras within GTA

I've been to Trevor recently and I loved its dishes, although I have not tried foie gras. I was too full and satisfied already. Will be back for sure to try its foie gras though.

Anyone tried Trevor Kitchen and Bar? I think they have a separate section on the menu with foie gras dishes too.

gelatin sheets

yeah, I always love making mousse cakes and I prefer gelatin sheets over gelatin powder as I don't like that "fishy" smell in the powder. :)

Cheese Croissants in Mississauga?

oh really? That's too bad. Nonetheless Sobey's plain croissants are very tasty.

Cheese Croissants in Mississauga?

I don't know if Sobeys in Mississauga has its own bakery department. I went once to the Sobeys in midtown (Yonge & Pleasant Blvd) and bought some nice croissants there! I saw them baking the breads on the site. The croissants were so fluffy and buttery that I think they were even better than some of the French bakeries in that area.

gelatin sheets

Does anyone know where I can get larger quantities of gelatin sheets (in boxes may be, rather than small packages of 6 pcs per bag) anywhere in the GTA?

I realize there are boxes of gelatin sheets available in Amazon.com but not all of them can be shipped to Canada, plus S/H is expensive.

Thanks.

Good Bakery in Mississauga-French Corner Bakery

I have noticed the exact same thing as you did, succeed. It was on a Saturday afternoon around 2'ish. Even though it was pretty much empty, the staff wasn't as enthusiastic as they should be when a new customer was spending some minutes looking at the cakes display. The fact that the whole place smell like bleach turned me off instantly.

I was very disappointed and I won't be back. I have yet to try the French Corner Bakery.

What's good for lunch at the Distillery District?

Well julesrules, you are right! I love desserts, LOL. As I mentioned before, I've only been to SOMA for chocolates and I loved it. Depending on what my girlfriends feel like on Sunday, we might as well go to Pure Spirits for a salad and app, then head to SOMA for desserts.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Urgh... I'm not sure if my girlfriends are into fried greasy stuff, as least I'm not. :P

Pure Spirits sounds like a good choice, and from its website it has a pretty nice patio too.

What's good for lunch at the Distillery District?

Hi everyone,

My girlfriends and I would be heading to the Distillery District on the coming Sunday afternoon for lunch and tour around. There seems to be quite a few restaurants in that area. Can we get some recommendations on this place? They have not been there before and I only went there once for SOMA chocolate.

Many thanks! :)
