One day in Manhattan - HELP!

My husband and I are taking a day trip to NYC this Saturday. Neither of us are overly familiar with the city. Have done some of the basics (top of the rock, columbus circle, walked park ave, times square). We typically plan our trips around food. We've done the 21 Club, Bar Americaine, Ben Ash)

I'd love to hear your suggestions for a nice little food tour of Manhattan. We like everything. Would certainly like to do some NYC staples (bagels, pizza, etc.), and are interested in food trucks. I'm a big fan of noodle soups (pho in particular) and my husband enjoys Thai curries.

Central Park, Grand Central Terminal and the Public Library are on our list of things to see. We have tickets to see Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre at 2pm. Although it's not typically our style, we are going to plan for an early dinner right after the show since we aren't staying over night.

Thanks in advance.

Sara

Need Recs Near DC Convention Center for this weekend

We are coming to DC this weekend (staying at Embassy Suites) and need recommendations for dinner on Friday night. We like fine dining and ethnic food, but some friends who will be enjoying dinner with us are not as adventurous. Any recommendations for a mid-priced dinner would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Need Recs for dinner before Cirque Du Soleil Show at the Mirage

Hi, all. Planning a trip to Vegas over the 4th and need recs on some places for dinner close to/in the Mirage Hotel. We don't want to do fine dining on this particular evening, so anything casual would be great.

NY foodie needs ANY reco's for Key West

Blue Heaven is a must try for b-fast. The lobster and shrimp eggs benedict with key lime hollandaise are enough to make me fly down there just for b-fast. Also, the blueberry pancakes are delicious! I'd suggest eating outside so long as you don't mind a few Key West chickens pecking around your table :)

A great little spot for a drink is the White Tarpon, which is down by the warf. Excellent Key Lime martinis.

I agree that the quality did not match up to the price. I could have done better at PF Changs. Has anyone been to his Vegas place that has won all of these top notch awards? Why didn't he bring that menu to Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh - time for only one dinner!

I've been to all of those places you've named except Cioppino (I think it's an upscale steak house). I've had great experiences at the other three but would also agree with the others on this thread that Nine on Nine should be added as one of your options. It is the best meal I've had in the city. It has a prix fix menu (3, 5, 9 courses) so with a party of three you can essentially have a little taste of everything on the menu. Have fun!

Dinner in Pittsburgh Saturday night, which place?

My friend and her fiance are coming up from Miami. She went to school here so she's familiar with dining scene in Pittsburgh. Throwing around ideas for a place for dinner we've narrowed the list to three places that we haven't tried.

Mio Kitchen and Wine Bar
Pangea
Legume

Any thoughts on these places? I've been to the restaurant that was fomally in the space occupied by Pangea and the atmosphere was blah. Has anyone been there since it's changed and had a different experience?

Pittsburgh for the Weekend need some RECS

For a casual game-weekend lunch, I would hit up Fatheads in the South Side. It's a local sports bar, has lots of great beer on tap and has an extensive bar menu of sandwiches, wings and salads.

Tessaro's does have a good burger and is a Pittsburgh favorite. I would also recommend the Church Brew Works, which is right down the street from Tessaro's. You could do dinner or lunch there. This place is an old church that has been converted into a microbrewery. The food is tasty--nice dinner plates, sandwiches and tasty pizza!

Pamela's is great for breakfast. There are several locations, but the one in the strip has the most extensive menu...if you like guacamole at breakfast try the tex mex omelette. Also, I'm not a huge sweet breakfast person, but I do love the crepe-like pancakes.

I can give many recs for dinner so if you have an idea of what you what (type of food, casual v. fancy) I would be able to help a little more.

Enjoy the game! And I feel your relationship rivalry, I'm from Pittsburgh and my boyfriend is an Eagles fan, ugh!

Who's been and what are your thoughts? I had been anxiously awaiting the opening of this place for months and was somewhat disappointed. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

Key West Bars

The best spot that I know of to watch a game is Jack Flats on Duval. I have been in the area the past two years for New Years and caught many bowl games there. Whether they have PPV, I don't know.

NY foodie needs ANY reco's for Key West

For breakfast, Blue Heaven is a must (if you don't mind roosters walking around the restaurant while you are eating). I was there twice during my vacation this past winter and had exceptional bannana bread as well as shimp eggs benedict with a key lime holondaise.

For a pre-dinner drink try the White Tarpon. They have an extensive wine selection as well as a speciality key lime martini that is delicious. Also, the atmosphere is very charming and avoids the general congestion of Duval.

For dinner I had many fine meals, but nothing that can compare to the breakfast at Blue Heavan. I promise you, Blue Heaven will deliver both a memorable experience as well as exceptional food.

St. Augustine

Looking for casual dining in St. Augustine. We are traveling there the first week of August and are unfamiliar with the dining scene. Any recommendations would be apprecited. Casual dining with excellent food/service is preferred. Thank you in advance for your recs.

Victory Brewery in Downingtown, PA

Victory is one of my favorite places to hang out when I visit my boyfriend and his family. It's a microbrewery so obviously it isn't going to have ambience...but the food is pretty good. I particularly like the chicken nachos. I'm sure you'll have a great time if you like to drink beer and eat pub food. I also suggest you try the Golden Monkey...

Isabella on Grandview

I agree with Monteray Bay...it's not as small intimate as Isabella, but if you request to be right next to the window the view is spectacular and it feels quite private. The food is much better than LeMont if you are looking for something more creative.

I've also heard that LePommier on the South Side is a nice romantic spot, as well as IBIZA (my friend went there the night her finace proposed). I also really enjoy the top level of SOBA (ellsworth) for a romantic dinner; it's very quiet and the lighting is dim and there are only a few tables up there.

Fennel, Avocado, and Mint Salad

Delicious! My friends and I served it at a little appetizery party and it was great. We used pumpkin seed oil instead of the pistachio oil and it tasted great. You can also cut down on the calories by drizzling the oil on each separate serving.

Pub Grub in Pittsburgh?

I agree...I think that the food at the Friendship Sharp Edge is leaps and bounds behind the Crafton location.

Pub Grub in Pittsburgh?

Fatheads has a great beer selection, but it's a sports bar. If you don't want that or trendy, I would go with the Sharp Edge.

South Side Pittsburgh for group of 20

I really enjoy Lidia's on Smallman Street in the Strip District. It serves authentic Italian cuisine and has an upper dining room that would be very nice for a big party...this might be an issue for the elders who don't do steps, but I'm sure that the downstairs dining room would also be able to accomodate you if you make the reservation early. The feature is a prix fixe pasta trio for $26, which comes with a salad and dessert. All of the pasta's are homemade and one of the three is flown in daily from Italy. The pasta bowl is never ending, so you can have as much or as little of the three different types of pasta.

The bread basket is also never-ending and has quite a delicious assortment! The menu is also equipped with a variety of traditional italian fare...not too extensive, but it has enough selection to keep a big group happy.

I find the atmosphere to be very fun and quiet enough that you can have good conversations without yelling across the table. The wine list is also pretty good. I would definately check it out!

I'm guessing, then, that Typhoon will be a big hit with someone who is a fan of curry?

Back to Philly for one weekend: fun/inexpensive/delicious rec needed

El Vez on 13th and Sansom. Tex Mex, funky atmosphere. Its not too loud so you can take a big party there and have good conversation. The meals are reasonably priced and it has a fun drink menu.

Pittsburgh-Typhoon

Can anyone provide me with any comments on Typhoon on S. Highland in Shadyside. My boyfriend's grandparents are coming in to visit Pittsburgh for the first time in many years and we want to make sure that we take them out for a good meal. They enjoy eating well and will normally only eat at places with great Zagat ratings. Is Typhoon a good choice? How is the service/wine list/menu?

Check out the Church Brew Works on Liberty Avenue. The food is pretty good, it brews it's own beer and has a cool atmosphere.

I agree with Legal Seafoods...I know it's a "chain," but it's one of those types of places that has a cool history so you don't really mind that it's not an original. The chowder is excellent, the fish is fresh and the lunch selection is great. It even has these little ice cream truffles that you order for a small dessert which are just too cute and very yummy.

It's also right in the mall, so you don't have to leave the madness of that parking lot and fight the traffic to get a good meal.

Breakfast near Millenium Bostonian

My boyfriend and I are going to Boston this weekend and are in need of a recommendation for a place to eat Sunday breakfast before we catch our flight home. We are staying at the Millenium Bostonian and would like to eat somewhere close. Suggestions?

Weekend in Philadelphia, redux

El Vez on 13th and Sansom is a really great/funky place to grab a lunch. The menu is full of tex mex dishes, which are plated in an interesting fashion. It has a wide selection of funky guacamole...one with crabmeat as the center piece, and obviously margaritas. The atmosphere is laid back and the decor is very funky. My boyfriend and I always stop by for lunch when we are in town. Check it out!
