Anna's in WLA to Close (not that most of you will care)
Worked 13 years right across the street from Anna's. Loved the short rib special for lunch. I've eaten there several times in the last few years. Something about an old timey Italian restaurant that will be lost with their closing.
Hot Sauce Store in Culver City Area
Armand's Discount, the fireplace & BBQ shop on the corner of Bagley (Main) and Venice sells several types of bottled hot sauces.
A good Charcoal Grill?
Try any of the dealers on Ventura Bl. It's a special order item and will take at least 4 weeks for delivery.
The new 26" in quite a nice grill if you haven't looked at it. It's on our floor right now.
Portable Gas Grill
Rassmussen did NOTHING for me. I called the mfg and the woman who answered the phone said that "she'd heard that."
Still no help.
I gave it to my brother who can make it work for him. He's going to build a wind block. That shouldn't have to be done.
Weber Grills -- Has Quality Declined?
Very interesting read. I owned a barbecue shop for 15 years and now I'm an employee of the same store.
The Webers that are made in China are only the Spirits.
Weber owns Ducane which is made in China.
The black paint on the inside of your hood is indeed a build up of the vaporing process of grilling. It is NOT paint. Do some maintanence on your grill and you won't have the problem.. It doesn't take care of itself.
When you buy a new grill find out about parts availability. If you can't get parts, your new grill is disposable rather than fixable. In otherwords you might as well trash it because it can't be repaired without parts.
Weber has always stocked parts and you will never have a problem there.
Jennaire? The name was sold and the current manufacturer is not the old company. Same with Charmglow. Home Depot happens to own that name.
Vermont Castings? The Home Depot VC is not the same as that sold at barbecue stores. We can repair those that we sell. We can not repair the HD VCs unless you get us the parts. They are specially made for the Home Depot.
Another thing, do you really think that all of your made in the USA grills are made here? Well they are, but you have no idea where the parts come from.
To answer the first question... Weber is still a fine barbecue. Even the
Chinese made Spirits are good quality. If they weren't, Weber wouldn't be putting their name on it.
Chutney's on Pico/Barrington
Closer to 20 years ago.
I think there has been two or more owners since Neela.
For awhile an English woman owned it I think.
Neela sold to open Bombay Cafe when it was in the corner mini mall on Santa Monica Bl.
Chutney's on Pico/Barrington
Loved it when Neela ( Nela? ) owned it. Love it so much I was there 2 - 3 times a week.
Since then I've tried it a few times through a few different owners. Not the same!
The last time was a couple of months ago. Sad to say that everything was too salty of all things.
Hamlet - Sepulveda & National: Out of Biz
If they were open there's no way I'd ever go back.
Wrote them a letter I was so mad the last time I was there.
Maybe the landlord tried to order a meal and 45 minutes later received something she/he didn't order and it was overcooked and just plain nasty.
I doubt they lost their lease.
Cemitas Poblanas (Culver City)
Could you please tell me which corner of Venice and Sepulveda? It takes a lot of maneuvering if I approach from the wrong direction.
What time does the late night truck get there?
Review: Aroma Café in West L.A.
They need to learn how to dress a plate.
I felt like I was in someone's home and I came unannounced. The ordering and delivery of my food did not go smoothly.
I had heard great things about Aroma Cafe and walked away quite disappointed and hungry.
Soup in LA - Preferrably West Side
Nichols in Marina del Rey. Great homemade soups.
I don't like zuchini but if it's on the menu I'll always order their Curried Zuchini.
ALL of their soups are delicious.
What's your favorite pie?
The Lemon Chess Pie with walnut topping from the now defunct Beadles Cafeteria in Pasadena.
If anyone out there has the recipe for that topping, I sure would love it.
Any Hot Wings in the Valley... at all?
Hoagies and Wings on Ventura west of Van Nuys but I haven't tried it.
Boys and their Toys: The Bar-B-Chef Texas Charcoal Grill and P.
Hi,
Excellent grill!!!
but PLEASE if you're buying from Barbeques Galore make sure they have the product. Take it home yourself if possible.
They are in Chapter 11 and a lot of customers are getting burned.
I stocked up on hardwoods last week because they are a good source.
Your mom's weird cooking ... and other stories? (recipes encouraged)
I'll never forget the day I looked at the dinner table, did an about face and walked out of the house.
My mother had made lamb tongues and there was one on everyone's plate.
Quintessentially Los Angeles Dinner?
Has to be taquitos at Celito Lindo in Olvera Street where Los Angeles first began.
Then for fun go to Phillipe's.
Nola Ice in Sherman Oaks - anyone been?
Thank you!
I'll have to give it a try on one of my lunch breaks.
Nola Ice in Sherman Oaks - anyone been?
I think they would do well catering parties.
I've seen ice cream bars and capaccino carts. I think shaved ice at a party would be great!
Homemade kielbasa in Los Angeles--
Don't know the name, but it's a Polish Grocery, not just a butcher shop.
It's on the South side of the street, east of Lincoln.
Nola Ice in Sherman Oaks - anyone been?
Okay, I've been there twice. I love shaved ice!
With all of those flavors I got the same thing both times... Margarita which is basically a lemon-lime flavor. Very refreshing!
I know the rent has to be horrendous. I'd love to see them sharing a corner of someone else's store to save on the rent. They really don't need an entire store for shaved ice.
They would also do better west of Van Nuys because there is more walk by traffic.
Bring in Boudin and I'll be there daily!
Great idea and I wish them well!
El Segundo Whole Foods
Dommy!
They're opening a Counter in the Marina next to the California Pizza Kitchen. It's in the Pier One location.
mmm looking for a good liver and onions plate
The Buggy Whip in Westchester has good liver and onions.
So does Billinsley's in West Los Angeles
What the ?*#$!...... No side au jus at Phillipe's?
Was at Phillipe's last week. The little jars of mustard are gone indeed, but they are replaced with squeeze bottles.
They work perfectly.
The Infield
Thanks, The good thing is I still work there. I have money in the bank and a weekly paycheck now.
weiner factory/pinkberry
It would have been nice if they figured this out before kicking the WF out.
I think somewhere in the future we'll see both the WF and the liquor store gone and some new building take it's place.
Sad.
The Infield
Quote: Is it a sign of the new (bad) economy that we've got two new hot dog/Brat places in a similar area in a short period of time?
I don't think that's the case.
I also don't consider Brat Brothers in the equation. They are entirely different. Not really a hot dog place.
I don't know how anyone can pay the rent selling hot dogs or brats or painting fingernails for that matter.
The landlords on Ventura Bl are merciless. I sold my store in October because my lease was up. There was no way I could pay what the landlord wanted after my being there 15 years.
