Looking for great free-range fried chicken /organic hamburgers in Montreal Thelonius, I see what you're saying. Merci! |

Looking for great free-range fried chicken /organic hamburgers in Montreal Than you, Looosia. I suspected as much! I know that Omnivore serves organic meat, but I've yet to find another restaurant that does. We've been to Aux Vivres, and it was a nice detox experience for me, and I loved the red chairs. |

Looking for great free-range fried chicken /organic hamburgers in Montreal Hello- There's no shortage of great places to eat here, but are there restaurants that serve free-range fried chicken, etc? What/where would they be? Thanks! |

thanks! |

I still have the "beef stew meat" in the freezer. I have no idea what to do with it. Could it be part of a soup, which I usually make with squash, carrots, or whatever I can find at the Farmer's Market? I usually make vegetable soups with the csa veggies. Would this meat have to be cooked in a crock pot, and for how long? Usually my soups cook in 40 minutes. |

Any cold-brewed coffee in Hell's Kitchen area? I couldn't find any from yelp, except at 5 Napkin Burger (!?). Does anybody know any cafes in the area that serve real cold-brewed iced coffee in that area? Thank you! |
|
|
Cold-brewed, (the process takes about 14 hours of steeping) with a little milk and agave. Only the best, fair-trade beans will do. |

Converting steaks to hamburgers? Doable? jgg13, next time, I'll try it without the added ingredients. :) |

Converting steaks to hamburgers? Doable? Thanks for the link. As it turns out, we do have a food processor! My husband knows what kitchen tools we have, not me. I doubt I have the knife skills to chop steak into hamburger. But it is a source of inspiration! I have another beef flap steak left, and I'm going to convert that one, today. |

Converting steaks to hamburgers? Doable? Thanks, everybody. The patties came out pretty good -- I added egg, parsley, garlic and dill to the fp. Next time I'll chop them into even smaller pieces. |

Converting steaks to hamburgers? Doable? Thanks, guys. I will follow your advice. |

Converting steaks to hamburgers? Doable? I'm new to meat, so please bear with me. I am not a huge fan of steak, but have a short rib and beef flap meat from my local CSA. I love hamburgers, and was wondering if they could be ground in a blender (?!) to make hamburger patties? We don't have a meat grinder, so the blender is the only option. |

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll go ahead and brew my own, perhaps buying beans in those areas you recommend, since going without caffeine in this form is out of the question. |

I'm addicted to cold-brewed coffee, and I'm not sure if one can find it in Paris, (let alone North America). I'm resigned to making it myself (I'm even willing to bring my own ground beans). But... Does any one know if there are Parisian cafes which offer this? It's the only kind of coffee which doesn't give me awful bouts of heartburn. |

Melty, Funky & Energized - The Queens Kickshaw Brings Grilled Cheese & Coffee to Astoria I pay for quality too -- I'm happy to pay an equal amount for better quality (and amounts!) at Sweetleaf, Oslo, Modca, El Beit, Third Rail...These places are most certainly not Dunkin Donuts. Why should Kickshaw be more expensive than those establishments, without providing better product? I can spend the same amount, and get a better drink -- for example a Cold-brewed New Orleans for the same price at Sweetleaf in LIC. Furthermore, why charge such a huge markup for the Mast Bros chocolate? High-end, boutique places should exist, and ask for more money. But this is excessive. ----- Oslo Sweetleaf Coffee & Tea |

Melty, Funky & Energized - The Queens Kickshaw Brings Grilled Cheese & Coffee to Astoria You know, I wasn't so impressed with the place. The sandwich was tasty (with carmelized onions, and the iced coffee was nice.. But their goods are seriously overpriced -- $3.50 for their cold-brew? I can get a New Orleans version for the same price, elsewhere. Also, selling Mast Brothers chocolate for $10.00 is robbery. Even in Williamsburg, they only sell them for 9 bucks (they are 7 dollars at the store). I'd honestly prefer the place if it didn't seem so fussy -- is table service really necessary? Why not have a straight-up coffee bar, with a menu? |

Should have done my research, thought I was the first to make such a discovery. Ha! |

the recipe I'm going to try: http://www.deliciousasianfood.com/200... |

Yes -- it's obviously fresh! Already put on a simple rub of salt, rosemary, and soy sauce and will stew it. Next time, I'll slow cook/braise, when I have more time. I fell in love with pork belly after going to a Brooklyn BBQ. Oh my --dessert and savory lunch in one (the rub was phenomenal, with the sweetness that made me feel I was eating a snack). |
|
|
Whew. What I suspected. Thanks! |
|
|
Please bear with me. I don't really understand meat yet -- but I'm learning. I bought some pork belly from a great Brooklyn butcher, so I suspect the problem is me. Anyway, on the skin, are whiskers! I get ew moments every time I look at it, but I do look forward to finally cooking it. My question: is it normal for pork bellies to be sold in a somewhat furry state? Should I trim off the layer with the whiskers? This experience is seriously humbling for me. |

My husband hates the smell of bacon frying...ideas for a substitute? Thanks for the translation, below. I barely speak a few phrases, myself-- just a few expressions I learned from my husband and Egyptian neighbors (the Astoria part of Queens has a delightful little Egypt -- with great food and people!). So you pick up a few words, here and there. |

My husband hates the smell of bacon frying...ideas for a substitute? Honestly, I might try anything...It's interesting that so many sympathize with my plight (if you could call it that...) |

My husband hates the smell of bacon frying...ideas for a substitute? Roland -- good ideas. It's fun to see how many other people love bacon -- and the lengths we'll go to, to save our marriages |

My husband hates the smell of bacon frying...ideas for a substitute? On the 5th floor in a NYC apt -- maybe I could get creative and grill on the fire escape? JK -- maybe moving to the suburbs (for easier dispersion of bacon-smell) isn't such a bad idea. |

My husband hates the smell of bacon frying...ideas for a substitute? Good point -- I hate the smell and taste of salmon, but tolerate it bec. I know he loves it and it's good for him. |

My husband hates the smell of bacon frying...ideas for a substitute? Unfortunetely, I live in a New York City apartment -- not many possibilities for opening windows and sliding doors ;( |
