Shepherd's pie in Queens?

In that area, try Stove in Astoria; very good Shepherd's Pie.

Philoxenia on 34th Ave.

Ate at Philoxenia this week and it seems they are picking right up from where they left off. Standouts were the dip sampler for an appetizer (though be sure sure to ask for pita), and the meatball entree in tomato sauce with onions and peppers. The room is beautiful and really comfortable with the fireplace on a cold night. I think its worth checking out and hope to hear some other opinions. Its a nice addition to the area, and I hope they get supported.

DiFara's ripped by Rosengarten

I went on a rainy satuday afternoon. I had been there before, thought I knew what to expect. I did all the right things from all the advice here on the board. Got to the front, made necessary eye contact, stayed on top of it, etc. The total wait was an hour and a half. I saw my pie go to friends of Dom's who just walked up to the window. This happened three or four times. I also saw a couple of pies that were "promised" to me go to fill a one slice order and a two slice order repsectively. The son kept reminding Dom that I had been waiting and waiting. It didn't matter. The guy next to me was suffering the same fate and wait. I kept my cool, some in the same boat didn't. The pizza was fantastic, but the frustration and treatment went from an "experience" to just plain annoying.
I've waited and trekked for food many times before, but this experience left me with a feeling that perhaps its just not worth it with this place. Sometimes the peripherals CAN cancel out the food.

Kielbasa in NEPA?

Without a doubt, the Capitol's Kielbasa in Shenandoah, PA. Nothing compared when I lived in NEPA. Hope it is still as good as it always was; hope it is still around.

Le Petit Prince- New Bakery in Astoria

I went to Le Petit Prince at B'way b/t 33 & 34. Had some very nice, little cookie/cakes that were simple and delicious. Vanilla or chocolate flavored that were soft, nutty, and perfectly moist.

I also had a croissant this morning. It was the best I've had in the neighborhood, which isn't normally saying much as most of the others are crescent shaped dry bread, but this was buttery, flaky and had a nice density to the soft layers in the middle. I am no croissant expert, but I really enjoyed it.

They don't have a lot on display right now, but I have been there twice and they had more the second time. Haven't tried the coffee yet, but so far it looks like it might be a nice addition to the neighborhood. At least, it is not the same type of standard Astoria cafe fare. Anyone else check it out?
