ISO Swans Down Flour

I saw some at Target when I was looking for it. I've seen it at a few of the ones that expanded their grocery section about a year ago. If worst comes to worst you could always try the other brands of cake flour or make your own. For every cup of cake flour your need, use all purpose flour (my dad prefer's Gold Medal flour for the Chinese steamed buns) and remove 2 Tablespoons and replace it with 2 Tablespoons corn starch then sift it about 3 to 5 times to give it that fine texture cake flour has and to mix the corn starch in with the flour well.

Any good eats in Omaha?

We plan on hitting up the zoo and have a car. We're willing to drive a bit for a good meal. We'd even hit up gourmet markets, bakeries and what not for good eats.

I was looking at Old Market area, Strategic Air and Space Museum as well. Any must sees in Omaha you care to share as well?

Thanks, for any input would be appreciated!

Any good eats in Omaha?

Going to Omaha for the first time. Is there anything I must try there and any recommendations? Thanks for the input!

Any good sushi recommendations in KC area?

Thanks for your recommendation for Kato might try it out tonight since I am picking someone up from the airport and will be in the area! Lately, I've been ordering sashimi grade fish from online and making sushi and ceviche at home.

Eastern European in KC

I don't know of any Eastern European restaurants either. I have had the povitica from Strawberry Hill in Lenexa. I went to the Slavic fest in Sugar Creek and had some of Peter May House of Keilbasa which is a little different, and has some bite to it. They have a location in Kansas City if your interested in trying it out.

KC where is your dessert spot?

I can't say I have a favorite I guess it just depends upon what I am craving. Christopher Elbow Chocolates, Artisan Francais, 3 Women and a Oven, Andre Suisse and Shakes are some places I enjoy hitting up for my sweet tooth cravings.

Delaware Cafe (River Market) - Kansas City, MO

Didn't get a chance to try out it out yet. I was wondering if you can give me an idea of what to expect on the menu since the website is still under construction? Are the dishes what you named going to be on the dinner menu regularly? Will it be a changing menu daily, weekly, or seasonally? For brunch on Saturdays will it always be spontaneous city market brunch or was it just for June 7th?

Thanks!

seeking unique, different, weird in KC

I would suggest if it's not too far for you to check out the Ethnic Enrichment Festival at Swope Park. It's not till August though. I went last year and tried "different and weird things". The reason why I suggest that is because they have close to 30 different vendors from different countries with food booths for example Kenya, Morocco, Croatia, and Laos. Here is a link for more info http://www.eeckc.org/festival.htm

I read in the paper that last weekend there was also some kind of ethnic festival in Wyandotte County that I missed. Does anyone know of any others that go on? I heard they had over 40 food vendors too. I didn't realize how multicultured Kansas City is. So, there might be some restaurants that I am missing out on.

I am also curious to see what exotic (unique, weird, or different) foods are out here in Kansas City as well.

Any good sushi recommendations in KC area?

Crab stick should be imitation crab meat made from fish.

Any good sushi recommendations in KC area?

I went to Sushi Haru from recommendations from other ppl. They have different types of rolls compared to other places. I like their crispy rice, which is under sushi, it is spicy tuna on top of crispy rice, nice contrast, something to try if you like spicy tuna.

Wesport,KC,MO/Country Club Plaza

Oh, Spin is not too far from where I live, I think I'll give it a try some day :D

Wesport,KC,MO/Country Club Plaza

Wesport,KC,MO/Country Club Plaza

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I'll look for all these restaurants when I get there and check out their menus and locations :D For those who are going, I just hope we don't get rained out, and enjoy the show!

Hawaiian/Polynesian shopping in KC

I don't know of a Hawaiian or Polynesian store. I'd have to say you'd probably be able to find the hard to find ingredients at an Oriental market. Things like soy sauce, sesame oil, panko(bread crumbs), taro, ginger(a lot cheaper there than the regular grocery stores), oyster sauce, bean paste, five spice powder etc etc .... are some of the ingredients that seem to be in Hawaiian/Polynesian recipes. You will probably have to go to a regular market for the some of the other ingredients.

I would recommend these 2 markets, or maybe both depending upon if you can find everything you need at one, they are the fairly bigger markets and close to each other, there is another new one across from Chinatown Market, but I've never been there before.

I am planning on going to the Waterfire show this Saturday. If anyone else was wondering what it was http://www.visitkc.com/waterfire/. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to go for an early dinner in this area before the show. Thanks!

KC: Better Vietnamese- Hien Vuong or Saigon 39?

I had just went to Vinh Hoa for pho dac biet and banh mi with the grilled pork. I have to say both were good. The only thing about Vinh Hoa's banh mi, is that the bread is really French baguette like, which is good there, but might be little to hard to eat later in the day or you may need to reheat it. I can't say much for Hein Vuong or Saigon 39,. since I haven't tried it yet. I use to go to Pho 97 for their pho, but I think I like Vinh Hoa's a little bit more, since Pho 97 seems to be a little bit oily and I prefer the parking much more at Vinh Hoa's.

Any good sushi recommendations in KC area?

Went there for dinner last night and it was the best sushi I've had since I've moved to Kansas. Thanks!

KC Ren Fest--Suggestions?

I went there last weekend with 3 others and we tried a bunch of things. FIrst time I've seen Scottish eggs, which is basically a meatball made from sausage meat with a boiled egg in the middle, comes with a nacho cheese like dipping sauce-disappointed thinking with sausage like meat it would be a bit more flavorful. Another thing to stay way from which i can't think of what the name is but it basically had criss cross spuds on the bottom then topped with meat, onions, and bell peppers and had some nacho cheese sauce, it was rather bland tasting and I couldn't figure out what kind of meat was in it.
The turkey legs were pretty good, the footlong sausage on the the stick was one of the best things we ate. We also got some chicken fingers which was good, but it's something you can get anywhere. For sweets the apple dumpling was really good, nice and hot in the middle with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. We also enjoyed the cheesecake on a stick covered with chocolate, it was a rich and creamy cheesecake.

Thanks for the tip, I'll ask for John or Gao at the sushi bar!

JO CO, KS New Vietnamese cafe at 75th and Quivira...

Just checked and they are opening tomorrow, with the rainy weather, thinking I might hit it sometime this weekend, so I'll let you know what I think of it.

Best Cheap Food in Miami?

You can try cuban restaurants such as La Carretta(I think the one on Bird Road is open 24 hours) for breakfast you can get cafe con leche, and cuban toast or some of their pastry items for a breakfast under $5.00, and they have great sandwiches for lunch for about $6.00. The
restaurants are a bit cafeteria like but good food. They usually have daily specials with good deals. http://lacarreta.com/ There is also Versailles that is a cuban joint, I believe it's open 24 hours open in Little Havanna too.

If your willing to go up to Fort Lauderdale area such as Hollywood there is La Granja, a Peruvian place with great roast chicken meals for about $3 to $6 (depending upon if a quarter chicken fills you up or not) comes with rice and beans, plus they got a bunch of lunch specials. They also have one that has seafood too, great ceviche for a good price, can't remember exactly how much it costs. Not open late. 2502 N State Rd 7, Hollywood, FL 33021-3205 (954) 963-1945

There is this place called Littlle Saigon on 163rd in North Miami beach that has Pho which is a fairly cheap item, it's open to 1 am. I have to say it's not the best Pho, but it's open late.

If you want a chain place thats open late there is Miami subs they have specials each day for good deals, I usually only eat their pitas and chicken wings though.... they have like 10 or 15 cent wings on Wed and Sun. http://www.miamisubs.com/

Another chain thats open late and is fairly cheap are Ale houses, great beer specials. http://www.alehouseinc.com/

Almost all of the Jamaican/Caribbean Restaurants I've been to are cheap, great for a hearty lunch or dinner, but don't really have dine in, maybe a few tables and plastic wear to eat. Best bests are jerk chicken and Jamaican patty if you've never had it before, I also like oxtail stew, but might be a little exotic. I usually go to Kingston Delight in NMB or Christine's Roti Shop also in North Miami Beach. I've been to others, but can't think of their names.

New KC Brazillian Steakhouse

Well, I am from South Florida so we have quite a bit of these rodizios. I was quite excited to see one near me open up. I agree with the picanha being their best cut of meat there. I don't know if it's because we went there within the first few weeks of opening, but their meats weren't consistent tasting, being the same cut of meat but just off a different rack, some were rather bland while some were quite salty. I also have to say, for some reason the texture of the meats just didn't seem to be up to par. The salad bar was pretty good, and I have to say I did enjoy the polenta.

So, all and all I was a litttle disappointed due to the saltiness or lack of and the texture of some of the meats. I've been to these types of restaurants in Florida, New York and California. So, unfortunately, I don't believe the quality is quite there yet, or maybe it was still in the training phase at that time.

I would say at least go for the experience if you have never been to these types of restaurants. I think I will try it again later this year and see if perhaps I would have a different opinion about it.

One of these days I'll try Em Chamas to compare as well.

Jerk Chicken Miami

Kingston Delight has good Jerk Chicken 1304 163rd Street, North Miami Beach, FL 33162
(305)957-7213. It is more of a take out place and just a few table to eat on with plastic forks and spoons.

Authentic Italian in KC?

I have seen Garozzo locations in they neighboring Kansas City areas, have you tried them and think this particular location is better? It has been a restaurant. I have been meaning to try

JO CO, KS New Vietnamese cafe at 75th and Quivira...

It's called Cafe Song, they have a website cafesong.com, I signed up and got a coupon 20% off for lunch. So far it's not open yet, even though it was said to open August 24, then changed to August 31.. and now they claim they are waiting on an inspector. Are there any Vietnamese restaurants you go to right now?

Any good sushi recommendations in KC area?

I moved from South Florida to Overland Park, Kansas over six months ago. Boy do I miss good diversity! Recommendations would be highly appreciated! Places I've tried so far and my thoughts:
(the quality of fish is definately not as good as where I am from, then again, there doesn't seem to be as many sushi places here, in Florida we actually have better quality fish at our sushi buffets :/ )
Sakura: They have this train that goes around and there are pieces of rolls and sushi on plates that you take off and they charge you according to the color of the plate. The fish quality is so/so, but doable, not much variety in rolls though. I have to say it satisfies a sushi craving, but not a place i'd rave about.
Sushi Gin: Better roll selection, and they have these $1 sushi specials, better than Sakura, but the food comes out pretty slow paced. The fish quality is pretty decent.
Sushi House: is one of the better sushi places i've been to so far. The fish quality better than the other 2 places I've gone to so far and have some different appetizers.

Someone recommended Jun's, went there on Sunday and they were closed, will try it next. Any other suggestions?

Best Thai in south florida?

I have to say Panya Thai in NMB has the most authentic and better Thai place I've been, the only thing is the main cook is better than the mom's. I was a regular there, until I moved out to the midwest. When the son is out of town or out shopping, the mom doesn't seem too cook as well as Panya does.
