Bean & Cheese Burrito, update

Hi Kevin. Welcome back from your hiatus! Have you tried my favorite? Sabroso's bean & cheese burrito. They are in Winnetka. I know that the menu states that they have red sauce inside, but 95% of the time they forget - even when I remind them when placing an order. So good!!

Of course, Will Owen!! ;-) Someone here once thought we were the same person! Who was that? I cannot seem to remember!

There were actually two Jeromes - the original one (who you are talking about - extremely knowledgeable about Asian food) and the other one who took his handle. It was the OJ (Original Jerome) who pointed out to me that someone else was using his handle.

Tacolandia 2014: Post Your Live Commentaries and After-Event Reports Here!

Hi Off. I didn't know about the meeting time until Prof Salt came and found me when we were waiting to get in and said CHers were meeting somewhere at 4:30. I didn't get what he said and then kinda forgot about it until I ran into him again later. By then, it was too late. I would have met up if I knew what was going on. I was also with 6 non-Chers so... next year!
Thanks for clarifying the pic. I wish I were a picture-taker. I never seem to have enough hands for it!
You are right about the pros and cons. I definitely got to try everything last year and this year only about 1/5 of them. Oh well, either way, definitely worth it!

And yet another list: Burritos

Thanks jess! I think that the chile relleno burrito from La Azteca looks good - will have to try it. Most of those burritos did not make my mouth water. I did have the green chile from The Shed in Santa Fe when I was there in April and it is really, really good. Did not have the burrito tho. The one from all of these that made my mouth instantly water was the pic of the Al Pastor burrito from La Tapatia in SF. Yum!

Thanks jesstifer! :-) I noticed that, too! We will have to meet one of these days (if we haven't yet!).
I can tell you who I don't like - people who rudely and nastily respond to someone's honest post due to them feeling their taste buds are far superior to everyone else's. THAT pisses me off. What makes one person right and another wrong? Food likes and dislikes are highly subjective and personal. Those people know who they are as I have called them on it.
Other than that, I am cool with pretty much everyone... even Kevin with his gutter mouth!! In fact, it spices the place up, I think! Come back Kevin!
Exilekiss had an eloquent way of writing about things and places that everyone already knew about.

Great summary, Offalo! Thanks! Will I be shot if I say that I actually preferred last year's event? I think it has to do with the lower number of attendees to this year's. However, what I did like better about this year's was that there was more shade and more places to sit. I found that I didn't eat half as much as I did last year; I probably only tried 10-12 tacos or so. Could be the company I was in. Too many people with too many opinions. My favorites were Guerrilla; EggSlut - breakfast taco!; and the one with the crema (cannot remember who it came from) - from your pics above, the third row down, last one. OH! Also the pineapple one from George's. I could eat 12 of those! It was a fun event and great venue (taking the Gold Line was a plus!). See you next year!

Spoon - last year, you could find corners where there were no people, definitely, but they would be behind the booths, next to the fence. This year it is taking place at El Pueblo de Los Angeles, so I have no idea if privacy can be found.

LAs best spot for CHICKEN FRIED STEAK

For a long time, Chili's did the best version out here. But the last time I got it, it came out burnt and they had the nerve to serve it to me. To make matters worse, the manager would not let me order the same thing and just bring me another one. He made me order something else! I wanted CFS, asshole! THAT left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I have not been back. However, this is very clearly an isolated incident and the CFS had always been good in the past (although, I loved the cracked pepper gravy they served it with several years ago). The plate changed about 7 years ago.
I have had the version at Gaffey Street in San Pedro and do not remember being impressed. Also the one at Jongewaard's Bake & Broil (drove from Arcadia just to try it) left A LOT to be desired.
I had some great versions in NM last month. Definintely nothing out here touches it, which is strange, since in theory it does not seem that difficult.
I have seen Alton Brown's recipe for it - maybe you can surprise good ol dad and cook it for him! ;-)
I would love to know what your dad's favorites are since I am always on the lookout for decent CFS.

Is Settebello pizza special?

I would be happy being mistaken for 8. Been a long, long time. And really, who gives a shit what others think? Actually, come to think of it, I have eaten it that way pretty much since I started going which is about a month after they opened and I have taken people with me... no one has commented on my "odd" eating of the pizza!

Is Settebello pizza special?

Here is my MO when eating a Settebello pizza, sounds strange but it works and gets rid of the soggy crust issue: Order it "a little well done"; eat the pointed ends (inside) of all the slices first; then you can eat the remainder of the slices. Save the crust for dipping into their balsamic and spicy olice oil with some salt/pepper/red pepper flakes added. Sublime!

I think that the Pasadena location is better than the Henderson one. They also have a location in Oxnard that I have not tried yet.

I love Settebello and think it is the best pizza I have ever had. Everyone should go try it and see for themselves.

LA Weekly 10 Best LA Bagels

I so miss I&Joy. We used to stop at the one in Van Nuys after church every Sunday and take them home. I like the ones from Western and the poppy salt ones from Brooklyn Bagel Bakery. Not crazy about the Bagel Broker's or Goldstein's.

Where does one get this pastry in LA ??????????

Sorry - have not been on recently. Berolina does it - you can order them or they have them in the case around Lent/Easter.

They are very good. I ordered some last month and have had them many times. They are a specialty that they eat in Sweden at lent (Easter).

The building is one of those between the 134 and Colorado just as you are on top of the hill when on Colorado. She found one place (that skewer place) that will charge $20 delivery fee, which we find outrageous. I will check on it, thanks!
