Hat's Pastrami Chili Cheese French Fries

THAT is smart!

Hat's Pastrami Chili Cheese French Fries

I'm going to throw this out there - Trader Joe's sells Poutine (or at least they did several months ago). I just tried them last weekend and they were actually very good. I made sure the fries were crisp (in the toaster oven) and then cut the cheese curds into smaller pieces and at the last minute, nuked them to soften a bit, put the gravy packet into a mug, cut the corner and nuked for 30 seconds. Put everything together - delicious!

I have started ordering In N Out's fries with cheese. Well done with cheese. Pretty good.

Pasadena Lunch Spot Needed

Yes, fair question. For me, I only drink water so I always get off cheap on that end. That, and I really like their Margherita and always order that. I can eat one pizza by myself, but I know that when I go with a crowd we eat family-style and share a few pizzas (depending on how big the group is). I always come out at under $15 - including tip.

Roma Deli and Rosario's Sandwiches still around?

Not for about a month, but they were still there. Since he has gotten so busy selling the sammies, he has them stacked on the counter so you don't have to wait anymore.

Sorry, man did not see your post until after I posted mine. You can always give Abricott a call.

Daisy Mint is too small and gets too busy and loud. Maybe La Fiesta Grande (in the smaller room) or Settebello would work. Wonder if Abricott.

La Fiesta's manu is not on their website

Ikea's Annual AYCE Crayfish - Friday, 8/15: Burbank

Sorry this is late, but the AYCE Crayfish dinner at Ikea is taking place on 8/15. Two seatings: 3:30 and 6:30 (the late seating is sold out). I have it on good authority that there were still tickets available for the early one as recently as Wednesday - that is when our tix were purchased.
The crayfish are very good (cooked the same way they are cooked in Sweden) and there are other items to choose from. Always a good time.

New Penzey's store coming to Anaheim

I am awaiting a post that says "New Penzey's store coming to Pasadena/Monrovia". Then I will be a happy, happy girl!! ;-) Congrats to the OCers out there!

Taking One For The Team--The $10 Juicy Lucy Burger

Yup, back to back - they are only about a mile apart. But actually, I had a whole Jucy Lucy at 5-8 and then just a couple of bites of my brother's at Matt's. But that was enough!

Haha, no problem, man. I am not sure if it is really worthy of a meet up, but it is very good!

Best bean & cheese burrito in the SF Valley?

woman... ;-)
Last time I was there I told the counter guy to "remind" them to please put the sauce in the burrito (they have tried to put it on top, but it is not as good) and if they didn't, I would bring it back. It was made correctly that time. Also be sure to get some of their very good pico de gallo. I need to get out there again soon! I find it hard when I go to the valley - I have to decide between Cupid's, Las Fuentes and Sabroso!!
Also, when I was growing up in Reseda, there was no Winnetka - that is why I keep saying it is in Reseda.

Taking One For The Team--The $10 Juicy Lucy Burger

Hi Dairy Queen! I had the pleasure of trying both Matt's and the 5-8 Club's Jucy (Juicy) Lucy on the same day a couple of months ago. We went to 5-8 first and then Matt's directly after. I have to say that I was much more fond of 5-8's version (along with their great fries!) than Matt's (where you could choose from several cheeses). 5-8 just tasted right. I would definitely go back again next time I am in the cities - something I cannot say about Matt's.

Bean & Cheese Burrito, update

Hi Kevin. Welcome back from your hiatus! Have you tried my favorite? Sabroso's bean & cheese burrito. They are in Winnetka. I know that the menu states that they have red sauce inside, but 95% of the time they forget - even when I remind them when placing an order. So good!!

Of course, Will Owen!! ;-) Someone here once thought we were the same person! Who was that? I cannot seem to remember!

There were actually two Jeromes - the original one (who you are talking about - extremely knowledgeable about Asian food) and the other one who took his handle. It was the OJ (Original Jerome) who pointed out to me that someone else was using his handle.

Tacolandia 2014: Post Your Live Commentaries and After-Event Reports Here!

Hi Off. I didn't know about the meeting time until Prof Salt came and found me when we were waiting to get in and said CHers were meeting somewhere at 4:30. I didn't get what he said and then kinda forgot about it until I ran into him again later. By then, it was too late. I would have met up if I knew what was going on. I was also with 6 non-Chers so... next year!
Thanks for clarifying the pic. I wish I were a picture-taker. I never seem to have enough hands for it!
You are right about the pros and cons. I definitely got to try everything last year and this year only about 1/5 of them. Oh well, either way, definitely worth it!

And yet another list: Burritos

Thanks jess! I think that the chile relleno burrito from La Azteca looks good - will have to try it. Most of those burritos did not make my mouth water. I did have the green chile from The Shed in Santa Fe when I was there in April and it is really, really good. Did not have the burrito tho. The one from all of these that made my mouth instantly water was the pic of the Al Pastor burrito from La Tapatia in SF. Yum!

Thanks jesstifer! :-) I noticed that, too! We will have to meet one of these days (if we haven't yet!).
I can tell you who I don't like - people who rudely and nastily respond to someone's honest post due to them feeling their taste buds are far superior to everyone else's. THAT pisses me off. What makes one person right and another wrong? Food likes and dislikes are highly subjective and personal. Those people know who they are as I have called them on it.
Other than that, I am cool with pretty much everyone... even Kevin with his gutter mouth!! In fact, it spices the place up, I think! Come back Kevin!
Exilekiss had an eloquent way of writing about things and places that everyone already knew about.

Great summary, Offalo! Thanks! Will I be shot if I say that I actually preferred last year's event? I think it has to do with the lower number of attendees to this year's. However, what I did like better about this year's was that there was more shade and more places to sit. I found that I didn't eat half as much as I did last year; I probably only tried 10-12 tacos or so. Could be the company I was in. Too many people with too many opinions. My favorites were Guerrilla; EggSlut - breakfast taco!; and the one with the crema (cannot remember who it came from) - from your pics above, the third row down, last one. OH! Also the pineapple one from George's. I could eat 12 of those! It was a fun event and great venue (taking the Gold Line was a plus!). See you next year!
