Hershey's Ice Cream
I also was happy to find Hershey's at 2 Dips last year when I visited Lewes. It's also available at the Ice Cream Hut in Hickory, MD (Harford County) and I find it to be much better than Breyers or the other commonly available store brands.
Sir Walter Raleigh Inn
For what it's worth, they were also in the Hunt Valley and White Marsh Malls.
Burger Face-Off
I'm a little late on this reply, but for comparison, each patty at In-N-Out is 2 ounces, so their double is 1/4 pound (4 oz.) vs. Five Guys' 6.6 to 7 ounce regular (each patty is 3.3 to 3.5 oz).
It would take more than three I-N-O burger patties to equal one FG's regular.
Domino's New Pizza
So, given the choice of changing the recipe or not, you would prefer that a restaurant not listen to its customers?
McDonald's charging for Big Mac sauce now?
I always order my Big Macs without sauce - that cuts the total fat in the sandwich by 1/3, saturated fat by 15%, sodium by 10%. If I'm eating in, I add ketchup. If I'm taking it home, I add nonfat mayo and ketchup. With all of the other flavors, I can live without the little extra zing of the Mac sauce.
Big Macs do not equal healthy eating, but I can have one a little more often this way and not feel too bad about it.
H. Salt Fish and Chips in Baltimore?
Thanks! That's just what I'm looking for and I know right where it is.
H. Salt Fish and Chips in Baltimore?
I came across this name today and it triggered a memory from way back. Was there an H.Salt Esq. Fish and Chips in the northern Baltimore area in the '70s? I'd swear that I remember eating at one but I can't even come close to recalling where it was.
Similarly, are there any fish and chips fast food/carryout restaurants in the Baltimore area (either chains or single)? I know the food wouldn't measure up to a good pub version, but sometimes I don't want to go to a bar or restaurant and just want to grab a bag of fried goodness to drown in malt vinegar.
Announcement: New Board Breakdown for Chowhound
No, you're not alone. I'm 15 minutes from downtown Baltimore and would never consider running to the DC area for dinner. Too many posts are for restaurants that are way too far for Baltimore-area readers, and I'm sure the same goes for B-more restaurants and DC-area readers.
Do you drink Wawa coffee?
I only drink Wawa coffee four or five times per week, and that's only because I can't get there the other two or three days. Sixteen ounce French Vanilla black, two sugars.
Given the choice, for basic coffee and not some fancy specialty drink, I'd take Wawa over the other two any day. It may be because all of our local Wawas (I'm in NE Maryland where we have plenty) sell a huge amount of coffee, so the pots are always fresh, no matter what time of day.
Pizza/Crab-cake place off of I-95 in North Maryland
Although Box Hill Pizzeria is the one famous for their crabcakes, the same family owns Riverside Pizzeria and the cakes are supposed to be just the same.
CiCis Pizza?
Disagree. At my house, the question is either "Who wants good pizza tonight" or "Who wants cheap pizza tonight" - we have room for both at our table at different times. We can easily afford the expensive pizza any time we want it, but choose "pizza pizza" $5.95 bargains or the coupon specials occasionally just for variety. And our local independent operators are doing just fine, despite the competition.
Kentucky Grilled Chicken
I thought Kentucky Fresh Chicken was simply a rebranding to get the word "Fried" out of their name to please the health nuts.
You don't like that?!
peaches
chicken
raisins
mushrooms
most Indian food
carrot cake
white wine
best national brand peanut butter?
There's nothing to understand about taste preferences. It's all about taste, not ingredients. We all like what we like.
best crabcake in maryland??
I used to go to Jerry D's around twenty years ago, and my favorite was their Cake and Steak. It's good to hear that they are still as good as before.
from the cheap eats dept: Baltimore institutions
Could you be thinking of the last Little Tavern that just closed?
Perring Place Report
I last ate there in sometime around 1986, when I lived in the area. All I remember was everything was just a little better than I expected, and we had no complaints about the service but it seemed like a bit of a time warp - which was OK for us.
I heard a rumor several years ago that Peter Angelos owns this place. Does anybody know for sure? The same with the late, great Shane's in Timonium, which I believe was the Tail of the Fox before that and is now a shopping center. I do remember several memorable meals at Shane's - all of them good.
Anheuser Busch sold to InBev for $52 billion
That's a lot of money for InBev to spend to buy back Rolling Rock (they're just throwing in all of the other brands).
TNFNS recipe upsell at Red Lobster
It doesn't bother me at all. I have a really neat trick - I say "No thanks" and go on.
Classic snowball place in Baltimore?
How did I miss that? Thanks, but I wish it was better news about My T Fine.
Classic snowball place in Baltimore?
What ever happened to the legendary My-T-Fine snowballs on Joppa Road near Walther in Perry Hall or Carney or whatever that area is called? I heard that the owner retired a while back and I haven't been by this year to see if it was still open.
Classic snowball place in Baltimore?
Take a drive on the one-way portions of Monument and Madison Streets between Hopkins Hospital and the split at Highland Avenue (near Edison Highway). Every day on my drive to and from work, I see multiple snoball stands in front of churches and rowhouses.
And I have no problem with Rita's. Snoballs and Rita's Ice are like apples and oranges - similar but still quite different, and both good in their own ways.
Been to Sander's Corner lately?
My last time there was maybe 15 years ago after a remodel. When they told me that I could no longer get an ice cream cone to go, I refused to return. The upscaled version just didn't match up with my previous experiences and desires for the business. (What I'm trying to say is that they ruined a good thing)
Sorry, I guess that wasn't much help to you but that's all I have.
Ribs-
Some of us aren't tricked into thinking that their ribs are actually good - we actually like them, and have for years. They are definitely a different style than Nelson's, but I think the area is big enough for both.
Whiz Debunked
As it says in the article, Cheez Whiz was not yet invented when the cheesesteak appeared, but at Pat's and Jim's it is by far the most popular choice, and at Jim's it's 50-50 with other cheeses.
Have you ever "trained" yourself to eat something?
No. Rather than waste time, money and meals on something I don't like until I get used to it, I prefer to eat only things that I like, or things that I have never had to findout if I like them. If I do, I continue to eat them. If not, they get added to the list of time, money and meal wasters.
Grady Davids
I was there just a few days ago and had a wonderful meal. From the flatbread starter to the cedar plank salmon entree, everything was just right. And I can definitely recommend the chocolate chip cookie dough/ice cream dessert. The drinks were a little pricey, but generously sized, so it worked out. It wasn't a cheap meal, but I'd have to say that it was well worth the price. Also, the service was outstanding. Our server did her best to make sure everything was perfect, without being intrusive or pushy. She was very helpful with our questions about the menu and steered us toward exactly what we were looking for.
I do have my doubts about it surviving in that location, but if it fails, it won't be because of the food, service or the facilities.
The Waynebrook Inn also looked lovely. It's nice to see it reopened after all of these years. It looks like a lot of work was put into renovating it, and I hope it is successful.
Nationals Park - The Food!!
I think one of the problems with stadium food in general is the availablility of microbrews and crabcakes. Hotdogs, yellow mass-produced macrobrews, popcorn and peanuts belong in stadium concessions. The other food should stay in restaurants and does not deserve to be served with on-the-field entertainment.
