Madrid: very nice dining / meals at Rubaiyat ( Baby Grill), Calle Juan Hurtado de Mendoza 13

Seen suggestions on various boards for Sacha in Madrid. After our hotel made reservations at Sacha and we arrived when Sacha was only partially full, they could not find our reservation and said they cannot seat us. Well, immediately next door is above large very nice looking restaurant: Baby Grill --with a sister restaurant in Sao Paolo, Brasil ( A Figueira ). While they were very busy, they tnasferred couple of empty tables and seated our group immediately.
Glad they did ----and even more glad that Sacha was not able to:
Very nice rooms with splendid natural wood elegant tables.
Very nice several complimentary appetizers.
Complimentary cup of beautiful thick soup.
Great variety of virgin oils and seasoned oils.
Breads: one of the best experiences anywhere -tseveral kinds--they bake their own daily.
Complimentary non salted rosemaried hot freshly baked "pretzels"
Other appetizers outstanding.
Wonderful polipo which could be ordered two different ways
First and second courses outstanding: for diversity sake we ordered fish, chicken and steak items-each was very tasty and beautifylly presented.
Excellent very lightly cooked vegetables ( included) presented very nicely.
Terrific desserts-very ample to share.
After dinner two different kind of complimentary excellent ultra cold digestivos.
Also had 6 puttonos Tokaji Aszu.

Staff very pleasant and ample--few spoke English ( ask for Pedro-very polite young male training for professional restaurant career).

Kitchen extremely well equiped, large wood pizza oven, clean, well staffed, and very visible through large glass windows..
Bathrooms--very clean and pleasant.

Cost: ( at later dates we also ate at Sacha"s) - where each of the above complimenatry items were heavily charged and for essentially the same number of items ( or some of us said less), for the same number of persons: Sacha's bill was nearly twice. No comparison between a serious modern Baby Grill, and an old small understaffed bistro.

If you are looking for it: on the Mendoza side they have their bar, the actual large restaurant is in back of building.
Have valet services--in this neighborhood at busy times it is difficult to find parking space

Please let us know if you had recent experiences at either or both ?.

Eating and Drinking Under the Radar in Budapest, Hungary

This is a great thread. One suggestion / warning: at Troffea--many great choices-but they require cash. Big surprise when hosting 21 persons !

Budapest--non touristy everyday meals at non rip off prices, or bill which does not correspond to menu?

When you are in the tourist areas of Budapest they have a tendency to be taken advantage of you--just recently a 1,400 Ft item was billed as 4,100 Ft. this happened on their restaurant / bar row : Raday U.
The question where are some non touristy and non rip off restaurants with reasonable food for every day eating for reasonable prices?
One example in the very pleasant area of OBuda: VIDOCQ at Lajos u 98 , III; Tel 240 3937. Medium large portions, very pleasant outdoor patio, in a relatively non over busy street/ square and only couple blocks from the Duna.

What not to miss in Budapest?

Shame to abandon this excellent thread.
