Spices, deli in SLC

We're moving to Utah County next month and among my first hunts will be to find places in the area that sell great spices (something like Savory Spice in Denver) and a good deli, hopefully with a full service meat market (like Tony's Market).

Any suggestions on where I should start? And any other things I should put on the foodie to-do list?

Looking for Grand Junction CO Birthday meal for mom

We've lived in Junction almost 10 years and our favorite here, far and away, is Il Bistro Italiano.

They used to advertise themselves as Northern Italian, but it's a pretty eclectic mix these days. Their menu offers everything from middle-of-the-road (but tasty) Italian to bordering on adventurous Mediterranean. The perfect spot for a quiet celebration. And if it's not too cold in February, you can take a stroll downtown afterwards.

These days, I almost always order whatever the special is without question. I've never been disappointed with it.

Fresh pork belly in Denver metro?

I scored a slab that weighed almost 10 pounds at Tony's on Sunday. It's curing in the fridge as I type! Just a warning -- the cheaper cut at Tony's comes with rind, which normally I wouldn't think much about. But since it's belly, it comes complete with ... wait for it ... NIPPLES! Trimmed and without the rind, it was something like $4.99.

Can't wait to see how the bacon turns out. If it's a success, I'm sure I'll be shopping for more belly!

Thanks, Paul! Good to know! A friend here in GJ said I should touch base with Tony's Market. I called and they have slabs for $2.99/pound which is cheaper than I've been able to price so far. And I was already planning to go to Savory Spice and I was surprised to find out they have pink salt.

Hopefully, I can try my luck with something in the 10-pound range and see how it goes. This project will be the first time I fire up the smoker this season and I can't wait to see how the bacon turns out!

Best within 60 miles of Four Corners? And for a Vegetarian too! Will drive for food

I've had a couple of really good experiences at Nero's in Cortez. And a little farther from that in Durango, there's Serious Texas BBQ and Steamworks brewpub.

Couple of hours to kill near the airport

If there's something Denver has no shortage of, I think it's brewpubs. One of the perennial faves is the Cherry Cricket. It's not strictly on the I-70 corridor, but it's not terribly out of the way (http://www.cherrycricket.com/). Another good option might be the Wynkoop downtown (well, it's technically in lower downtown). You could catch a bite and wander the 16th Street Mall area for a while. http://www.wynkoop.com/

Fresh pork belly in Denver metro?

Thanks for the replies, everybody. I'll give some of these places a ring and see what I can come up with. Hopefully, somebody will have a slab cheaper than the $8.99/pound I got quoted here in GJ!

Fresh pork belly in Denver metro?

We're making a trip over the hill the weekend of April 16 and I thought maybe somebody might know where I could find fresh pork belly at a reasonable price in Denver.

I've been wanting to try my hand at curing and smoking some bacon and I'm guessing I'll have much better luck sourcing pork belly in Denver than I can in Grand Junction!

Ideas?
